Don't go for the food if you're expecting polynesian food. Think more backyard barbecue. The menu was cold sticky white rice, unflavored, cold potatoes, veggies (mostly squashes), chicken overdone to the point of being jerky, mahi mahi that was way over cooked, pulled pork (which was pretty good once I added lots of bbq sauce), a salad, bread, and red velvet cake for dessert. Based on my plate (and others around me) more food was thrown out than eaten. Then the band started. Tiny Bubbles was first up, then they broke into a few easy listening songs. To their credit, they did know how to play, and they were in tune, although in the end it was kinda like watching a band "inspired" by polynesia. Then the dancing started. Some of it was actually pretty good. Other portions needed more work. The costumes throughout were pretty cool. By now you're wondering if I'm jaded. Well, kinda. I've been to luaus and shows like this in Hawaii and Australia, and this one is like a very cheap imitation for people who haven't had the chance to see the real thing. Overall it only gets the second star for the effort, but I wouldn't return. Ever. If you're looking for better entertainment and food, I would recommend paying a stranger five dollars to kick you between the legs and then go eat at the nearest Waffle House. read more

This is a really fun show - you should definitely consider it if you're tired of pirates and knights... The dinner is buffet style. It's nothing special, but neither is the food at those other places. It's plentiful and includes salad, rolls, chicken, tilapia, BBQ pork, rice, squash, fresh fruit, and cake. Cash bar is available, or water and tea are included. I booked this on an evening that was supposed to be good weather, since it's held on a deck. But don't let weather stop you - it's a covered deck. The tables in back are slightly higher than those in front, which helps the people seated in the back see the action. There were probably close to 150 people there on Wednesday, so I'd say you definitely need to make reservations. Everything seems to be handled by a group of 8 folks - they checked us in, seated us, performed the dinner music, served the buffet, and it wouldn't surprise me if they also cooked the food. Very sweet and welcoming people. So after supper, the dancing finally starts. 7 of the 8 people danced, and one guy was handling everything else. The dancing was great - I just wish there was more of it. Each piece was quite short - I would have loved more. The whole show was about an hour. They did have audience participation, which I'm sure a lot of people love , but I personally would prefer to watch them. (Yes, I participated, and yes, I made a fool of myself.) So, if you want something different for dinner and a show, you should definitely go check them out. It's fun, and it's supporting a very talented and enterprising family. The only improvements I would suggest are a second buffet line so some people don't have to wait as long - I was finished eating before some people even got their food. And more dancing! The entertainment was pretty good. Although, the fire show that's outside should be done during darkness so one can really appreciate the fire tricks. The food was a complete zero. I'm not sure how fish can be harder to cut than chicken but somehow they were able to accomplish this unlikely feat. The decor, lighting and ambience reminded me of a 70s swingers club with the bowl for the "key " party the only thing missing. Most definitely NOT worth $50 a person. read more

Decent food for the buffet option, but OMG the show is amazing! All the performers do pretty much everything, they guide you to your seat, switch out the trays when food needs to be replenished, eeeverything. They're all so sweet and funny, incorporating the crowd and cracking jokes. I would have to say I was mostly disappointed. The food was mediocre at best, the chicken, pork and fish were all good, the rice ok and everything else not so much. There was nothing about the meal that suggested luau, not a pineapple in sight. Honestly, I think I would have enjoyed Shoney's more. The entertainment was great, however I was not able to see most of it. The seating situation should be explained when you buy your tickets, tables are set up vertically in front of the stage and if you're at the end of the table like we were all you can do is try and see around everyone else's head, very frustrating and disappointing for fifty bucks. Outside for the fire show wasn't much better, if you weren't out there first then it was hard to see again. From what I could almost see, it looked awesome. Amazing show! Felt like we had left Myrtle Beach for a Caribbean island. Hawaii in Myrtle Beach. The live music was awesome and made you want to sing along (which I did...LOL). The dancers were lively and very entertaining even inviting the audience on stage for dance lessons. Costumes were beautiful and we enjoyed learning about the dancer native islands. The highlight of our 35 anniversary was suppose to be the LUAU... we had confirmed reservations and even Sprung for the higher end seating.... After getting dressed up in our Hawaiian attire and arriving 15 min early we found the place dark and locked up... waiting a few minutes and having no luck we called the listed number only to find out that the show was cancelled!!! My husband was in love with the disney polynesian luau we went to so for father's day i suprised him and took him here, and im glad i did, he said the interaction with the staff afterwards and small things (like the fire dancer lighting his hand on fire and giving our kids high fives) made it better than the disney show! Which meant a lot! The staff were amazing, the entertainment was funny and heartwarming. It was a good time! My downfalls were the venue could have been nicer, but again, im comparing it to disney probably too much. The food was decent, my hubs really liked it. I would see this show again and again! You get live music during dinner, then are mesmerized by the beautiful dancers during the show. I cant even express how cool the Fire knife part is, you just need to see it for yourself! The food is great and even though the venue at Plantation Resort requires BYOB, you can buy affordable drinks at your local market and bring whatever you want and how much you want to the Luau! We saw the inside show at St. John's inn. The show was fantastic, the people were very friendly, it was entertaining and funny and a great time was had by our entire party that included a 4, 5, 12 year old boy, two moms, and a 65 year old! Lots of fun! The food was also great! The only complaint was that even though it was air conditioned, it was HOT! I mean like everyone was sweating to death! So don't choose this location just for the AC Bc it was cooler outside when we did the outside part than it was inside! read more

We were at St Johns in on May 29 2019. The show was very good however St. John's venue was terrible. It was so hot and crowded that it took away from the show. It was so hot in the room that you did not want to eat and they had items made with mayonnaise. Which was a accident ready to happen. I can not recommend anyone to go to this venue. But if they could see the dhow someplace else. I would say go for it read more

We had a great time. The venue was in Myrtle Beach. The dancers were wonderful. They did take the fire show outside due to the sprinkler system. The food was buffet style and they had a cash bar. Only downside was this was not a venue for very small children. Parts of the dancing could be a little scary, but overall great. And to the lady who decided to let her child scream through out the performance, shame on you. You should have taken that child outside. You ruined it for the audience. Why couldn't you supervise the rest of your children from trying to crawl up on the stage while the dancers were performing. Very disgraceful and a lack of keeping your children in line. WOW this was a great show. I took my wife and three kids ages 5, 8 and 9. It was just awesome. The food is simple buffet offerings, but the show is fantastic. The performers were very friendly. They made some jokes but overall the whole show felt authentic and just great. Not once was there a lull in the show. The fire dancers were incredible. I would have GLADLY paid twice as much for that show. It was really really fantastic for the whole family. Do not miss it when you come to this area. read more

On Saturday night, my friend and I enjoyed the Luau and Polynesian Fire Show. The buffet style meal offered roasted veggies, super tender flavorful chicken, pulled pork, potatoes, rice, and more. The dessert was red velvet cake with a smooth and creamy frosting--not too sweet! So with a satisfied tummy, I sat back and enjoyed the live music reflecting a Hawaiian and Polynesian vibe. Then the show started with very talented, beautiful young artists displaying dances, tribal chants, and languages from many of the Pacific islands. Very lively, very engaging, very fun, and more. The award winning Tahitian dancer accompanied by a soft lyrical song actually brought tears to my eyes as it was so expressive. The added humor by the Lavatai men, and the audience participation on stage really made it funny as well. Then we all went outside to see the fire knife show which was simply awesome edged with fear for the performers. Wow! This deserves a 5 for the show! It was as good as being in Hawaii! Great performance! They dance and sing and then go outside to the pool area for a fire show. The food is worse than a bad wedding caterer! It was fruit tray, rice, veggies, Polynesian chicken, pulled pork and fish. Do not bother! This was the worst... the worst seating set up, the worst food- only redeeming factor were singers/dancers- whom I could only see on other people's phones while they recorded show. We were seated on right side of stage wedged into seats so tight you could not turn to see show. We were facing a map on opposing wall. Plus at 5'2" I could not see over the 6 other people seated in front of me. Food - WOW- disgusting! Chicken was dry left over Chinese food, shredded pork was so full of fat it was inedible, rice was over cooked mushy flavorless and macaroni salad was store bought with a can of pineapple tossed in. I think it was all leftover from an earlier show. Fresh fruit was not washed, and tasted as such. There was warm "iced" tea and lemonade with no ice. Worst dining experience ever! In no way worth $50 per person. Maybe better to do show only at $25 per person with better seating set up? read more

The luau was a kid friendly version of a more traditional Hawaiian luau. The meatballs and Kalua Pig with bbq sauce on the side were good. But the best part was by far the show. The hula dancers were beautiful and the fire throwers were amazing!! Definitely a nice alternative to pirates and knights. read more

I went to watch this show with family friends. This was amazing, fun, entertaining, and educational about the Polynesian culture. There performance was beautiful and breathe taking. The fluent movements and the music was utterly mesmerising and keeps your attention through out the show. This was an awesome evening! Before the dinner starts, they play music with 2 guitars, a bass, and a drum box. Great variety of music and such talent; I was blown away with their musical abilities. My wife booked the reservation and I didn't know that she told them it was our anniversary. They called our names and announced our anniversary from the stage. They made us feel like the whole show was for just us (others had anniversaries and birthdays). The dinner was great with good food which I think was better than any typical buffet. They had chicken, fish and pork BBQ. Also they have a salad, rice, roll, dessert and fruits. Drinks were free tea and water. They also have a bar, but we did not utilize it. The show was great. They announced the dances and gave meanings to each one. They include humor in the show. The fire is very real!!! You can feel it, you can "hear" it as they twirl it in the air.
