Here's another one from my few months ago visit to Myrtle Beach, SC. So for the longest time, my folks had wanted to bring me to the Polynesian Fire show at one of the nearby hotels and to be honest I don't think that they had ever done this themselves in the years that they had been there. My folks are not the photo takers that I am so if they did this and I didn't recall the mention, there is no photo evidence to the matter so here we go. Presented at the St. John's Inn, the event takes over what appeared to be the entire inside event space. Once the line moved the crowd inside we were greeted by staff in traditional garb and handed leis. Another person played a ukelele to welcome everyone and it set the mood. Inside were all the tables, the stage of course and a small gift shop with items that had an island flare along with a pay per drink bar. The food was set up as a buffet and there was some pork, a fish dish, chicken along with a couple of vegetables and some rice. Some have balked about this being all that was set up to eat but I was actually okay with it. I admit that I thought there would be more along the lines of seafood but I am fussy about that stuff for the most part. The emcee/host was also a part of the musical group that performed a few radio hits with an island flair and I got a kick out of this and then it was time for all of the island presentations. It's difficult to describe it all but there was lots of hula being done by lovely dancers, along with a menacing Haka dance. Then a pause in the night happened while a protective netting was set up between the stage and the patrons and this was done to prevent any accidents with the batons and assorted other items that were used during the fire performance. This was a super exciting part of the night and I give credit the performers for their skills and amazing display. My high rating was mainly because I had a really fun time and had never been to anything like this before in my life. If you're visiting Myrtle Beach and can secure a spot at this show its a worthwhile event. I was able to be sitting closer to the stage which made it all the more thrilling. Absolutely loved this experience! Plenty of parking, smooth and quick check-in, friendly staff, all you can eat buffet. The food was fine, perfectly edible, certainly nothing great by any means. If you're a very picky eater you might have a problem, especially kids. There was white rice, French fries, sautéed vegetables, tilapia in a sauce (I think they were trying for a bit of a francese style but fell pretty far short of that), a Polynesian style chicken (boneless chicken in a sweet sauce), and macaroni salad. There was also salad, which was literally just lettuce and some cherry tomatoes and dressing. No cheese, no croutons, nothing else at all to put on it. Rolls and butter were also offered, as well as individual desserts ( coconut cake, Oreo cake, red velvet cake). There was sweet or unsweetened tea, fruit punch, or water to drink. Also a cash bar if you wanted. They seat you at long tables with other families but unless it's packed there's plenty of room between people. We didn't pay extra for closer seats, but we saw absolutely fine. The show is really what you're there for and it was really fantastic! Some Polynesian singers, some hula dancing, a little fun audience participation (totally voluntary), and honestly the most amazing fire dancing I've ever seen. I've seen these type of shows a good number of times before in various places, and seriously these guys were spectacular. Super impressive. Overall I'd highly recommend this show. So disappointed. They definitely need a new venue. The food was ok. It's a buffet so you get plenty which is nice. The biggest disappoint was our seating. It's long rectangular tables so you sit with other people. Fortunately the ladies who sat with us were very nice. The problem was we were at a table in the very back and unless you stood up there was no way to see everything going on. So disappointed! Especially as expensive as it was. What we could see, you can tell the performers are very talented. The fire performers were amazing. Staff were very friendly. Too bad I have no desire to ever return. It's crazy that people in the very back with limited views paid the same as the people up front that could actually see everything. read more

I rarely encounter the rudeness I dealt with the Luau people. And in this day and age, that's saying a lot! The first time I called, I needed to change the date. The man who answered sounded disgusted and said, "Expedia. You have to go through Expedia. I can't do anything for you." Well, technically, yes, he could have done something, and it would've earned them a higher review. The second time, my wife was really sick and unable to go anywhere. With two hours left before the show, I called to ask for help. The man sounded absolute disbelieved that we even had the nerve to call. "What?! I've got 100 people lined up here. I can't be bothered with this right now." Yes, he really said he couldn't be bothered. I am in utter disbelief that someone whose livelihood is essentially built around tourism would react this way. He may have been frazzled, but I am ANGRY!! He didn't have to be that way. He could've asked that we call back later or said (politely) there was nothing the venue could do, and I would've understood. But not to be that rude. I worked at McDonald's long ago and have stared down 2-3 school buses of hungry teens at 11:59 p.m., right before we closed and with the shake machine screwed and French fry station shut down. You stick on your "Customer service is my happy spot" face and get down to it. I would never treat someone like I was treated by these people. And even though I'm out the cost of two tickets, I still would never consider going back to these people, or any other venue they run. One star is too generous. read more

This is such an amazing live performance show. There's dance, sword fights, fire show and buffet dinner. Amazingly choreographed and executed. They beautifully represent the culture and history of Polynesian Islands. There's also portions for crowd interactions. The two hour shows passes in a breeze. The guests are welcomed with Hawaiian flowers. The drinks are served in lobby area. There's also flee market style section where they sell good made by Polynesian artisans. There's a small bar for alcohol drinks available for purchase. The food section has rice, vegetables, chicken, fish and pork ribs. There are also few types of cup cakes for dessert. The food was a let off. Apart of chicken nothing else was impressive to me. But it is totally worth it for the show that all performers put on. read more

This place was amazing. What I would like to commend the most is the exceptional atmosphere and experience. From the moment we drove into the parking lot, you are greeted with a smile. Every single interaction with an employee there, was filled with warmth and a true feeling of appreciation. I never felt like a bother for asking a question. What a phenomenal night for the family. The event is held in a ballroom of a local hotel. Everything was very clean and EVERYONE was absolutely great. You felt so welcomed that it just kicked off the event the right way. Honestly, food was average. I really wasn't going expecting a 5 start dinner. The hula hula chicken was great. The rest was ok. Free refills that you go up and get yourself whenever you want, including iced tea and lemonade. Again, it's a dinner show. Now, with that said, the show was excellent. They did dances and music from different Polynesian regions. We had a group that ranged from 11 to 70 years old and everyone was intrigued. Then they end it with a few performers doing a show with fire and that was just amazing to watch. If you're on vacation and looking to change it up one night, I definitely recommend this event. Terrific show!! Absolutely wonderful entertainment that's family friendly! The cocktails are amazing - very tropical and fruity. The bartender was very good and friendly before we were seated. The buffet was actually much better than I expected it to be - my husband even commented that he really enjoyed both the food (which is very not like him), and the fire dancers and their performances. 12.26.23 Hubby and I bought tickets as a Christmas gift for my MIL. We kept it as a surprise, but unbeknownst to us she had already seen this show. Upon arrival, there are two performers who greet you at the entrance of the St. John's Inn in Myrtle Beach. Once inside, you are given a lei which you can choose from. The show includes a buffet dinner. It was average at best, but my MIL who is an amazing cook said it was better than other dinner shows she's been to. Dinner included: Hulu Hulu Chicken Kalua Pulled Pork (best item) Fish of The Day: Rockfish (worst item) Island Potatoes Sticky Rice Tossed Salad Dinner Rolls Vegetable Medley Red Velvet Cake The show is an 1.5 hrs with 30 additional minutes for photo opp with the cast afterwards. You can also purchase a photo that they take for $20. They played songs and dances from the different Polynesian cultures of Hawaii, Tahiti, Tonga, New Zealand and Samoa. The night ended with an amazing performance by our World Champion Samoan Fire Knife Team! Had it not been rainy, it likely would have outdoors where there could have been multiple performers performing simultaneously instead of solo. Premium seating cost an $10 and will put you closest to the stage. The chance of me going to Hawaii is extremely slim so I took care of that in Myrtle Beach. When you go in, you are greeted with check in as well as a Lai (no idea if I'm spelling this right). From there, you can get a drink. I just got whatever was complimentary. For complimentary drinks, they had water, fruit punch and tea. I got the Sweet Tea which was VERY good. You are then taken to your seat, and you will be sitting with others as well and then you can start loading your plate from the buffet! All the food was good. Some was a tad bland but it was all good and edible. My husband really loved the food, especially the Hulu Hulu Chicken. I would have liked other options for dessert other than 2 types of cupcakes, but it is what it is. Then the show starts which was family friendly, amazing fire dancing and great performers. They were very funny as well! They also had some items for sale as well as the photo they take of you for $20. The whole ticket for the show is expensive but you are paying for the great entertainment! I would highly recommend, especially if you never plan or will have a hard time visiting Hawaii, this is just as good. read more

Wifey decided to book this dinner & a show for our (and our 6 yr old's) first night in Myrtle Beach and I'm sure glad she did. We arrived before the doors opened and we were starving. I was quite relieved to see the buffet was open as soon as we went in at 5:30. The buffet was better than I expected...I went back for 2nds and left stuffed. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The non-alcoholic beverages are self-serve and quick. The bar service backed up fairly quickly, so I'd suggest grabbing something as soon as you arrive and/or if the line is short. The performances and MC/host are what pushed this up to 5 stars. All of the dances were great, but the fire dancing was some of the best I've seen. I appreciated how they shared bits from numerous Polynesian cultures. The MC came across as knowledgeable and passionate about Polynesian culture. They also engaged with the crowd and introduced some lightheartedness to the show. Great for a date night or family night out...do yourself a favor and check it out if you're in the Myrtle Beach area. read more

Head directly to the bar as it soon will become a lengthy, slow serving line. Then take your drink w you to the hostess who seats you at long, make new friends banquet tables. The buffet opens right away. You are not here for the food, remember. I recommend the pulled pork over the chicken or fish. Go past the meats to take a giant roll, then head back to create yourself a beautiful pulled pork sandwich. Choose rice or fries, vegetables are there but need seasoning. Salad available (add to your sandwich?) and a slice of cake for dessert. If you want another cocktail, get it now. The performers are very good-thats why you're here! Five stars for the staff, service and performers. 3 for the food and 1 for seating. But overall we really enjoyed our experience so that is why I rated it four stars. I will say if you have kids in your party, it is worth it to pay the extra to get front seating. The day we went it wasn't super crowded, but the way the tables are laid out it would have been difficult for kids to see. When you arrive you are greeted warmly by two of the performers at the door. They escort you in to a lobby area that has two photo opp areas (a wicker chair and a tiki type carving). You then go up a ramp to officially check in and get a lei. They highly encourage you to get a group photo (which they then sell after the show for $20). If you arrive early, you have time to wander and get a drink or start on the dinner. The food, overall was meh. Definitely not remotely authentic. But also not necessarily bad, either. There was pulled pork with pretty bland bbq sauce, chicken with a teriyaki type sauce on it, fish and "sticky rice". The rice was just basic white rice. There was also a salad that was mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers and croutons. There was only one small cucumber on the salad when I went to get some and the server was nice and brought me a whole plate of them when I asked if there were any more. Dessert was advertised on their website as being red velvet cake but the night we were there they were rounds of peanut butter pie and key lime pie. Both were actually quite delicious! Things were replenished quickly and the service staff was accommodating. The beverages that were included with your meal were Hawaiian Punch, iced tea and water. There is also a full bar with various specialty drinks that you can get in regular cups, souvenir cups or even a 32 ounce bucket. They weren't cheap, but for what you get were reasonably priced. And the alcohol pours were definitely generous. Here is a downside. It is DARK in the main dining room. When the band is playing their preshow there is a decent amount of light coming from the stage. But in the break between the band and the start of the show you can't see anything without turning on a cell phone flashlight or moving the little light up centerpiece around. Our server offered to let us move to a side table (where they definitely had a lot more light) and then move back for the show but at the point that we already had our drinks and food it would have been a bit of a hassle. The show was well done, engaging and they even had audience participation! You could tell that this was basically a family run venue vs some big corporate entity. All of the performers were really enjoying what they did. Each dance was explained along with the traditions associated with it. After the show, performers stay on stage for a few minutes to get pictures and answer questions. But after that they also mingle with guests and answer questions and talk about their skills. Are you getting five star dining or an authentic Polynesian meal? No. But you are getting a fun experience where you really feel welcomed and valued as a guest. If you are looking for a non commercial/large corporate dinner show, this is a great option. read more

The only reason for 3 stars was because of the actual show itself and the dancers, Other than that, I wouldn't recommend. $160 for 2 people just to walk in the door. The seating is a bunch of rectangular tables lined up and inches between you and your neighbors... reminds me of the school cafeteria and the cafeteria has a ton more space. The food was very basic. This show is so much fun. They are welcoming you with smile as soon as you walk to the door. Food is very flavourful. I loved the chicken the most but mahi mahi and pulled pork were good and delicious too. They had salad and also desert bar. I loved the red velvet cake the most. Took my hubby here for his birthday! It was our first experience and it was an awesome experience! We were greeted by lovely young ladies who gave us a lai. They sat us in the front of the stage, which was a huge plus. They then directed us to the buffet that consisted of fish, chicken and pork...all were quite tasty! There was also potatoes, a veggie, a salad and rolls. Drinks were also available for purchase and were okay. The show was amazing! The narrator was funny and gave a bit of history about the different Polynesian culture. The dances were beautiful! My husband didn't blink during the beautiful young ladies dances! If I am being honest...you're paying for the entertainment. The food is at best...mediocre. And if it were me..I would have the rolls be Kings Hawaiian. It is buffet style..so if you like the food..then help yourself to many a dish. Entertainment: well done. Funny. Interactive. Dangerous burns defying....As in the fire tossing/ twirling/ juggling was really cool...I mean hot. All in all/ buy in large/ entertainment wise..it matched up to Disneys Ohana Polynesian luau...but food wise ..doesn't even come close to tipping Disneys culinary scale. read more

Everyone thought it would be so cool to see a luau on the trip to Myrtle beach and lo and behold this little hidden gem was waiting for us to find them.we had to reserve the dinner a few nights ahead which was buffet style and just alright if I'm being absolutely truthful. But in every way I can say it you don't go for the food, you go for the remarkable acts and crazy amount of talent all these wonderful performers put on for everybody for the nearly two hour show! We got multiple traditional dance performance and fire spinning shows to boot. Not to mention the guy who announces the entire show was so hilarious and talented (he was one of the fire dancers). read more

The abs best performance I had seen in a long time. The quality of the dancing and choreography was top-notch. The costumes take you right to their islands. I loved how they showcased each island and what wach Island is known for. The food was decent. The chicken was grilled and moist. They had the biggest tossed salad I've ever seen in my life. There were at least 100 or more people in the room. The full bar had a drink called strawberry shortcake, which was delicious and worth the 10 price tag. I would absolutely go to this show again and we'll worth every penny spent. They had cleaners coming around the keep tables picked up. I loved that they were seen but not herd. read more

The fire show was delightful and quite intense at times. Beautiful performances by the woman and powerful performances by the men. The food was only average. Plentiful, but I would give it two stars. Watching the tricks with the fire was a nice experience even learning about their culture and dancing was cool. I gave it a 3 because the food was not so good. It is buffet style. I didn't eat much except for some fish. My partner was able to eat most by putting sauces as well as a lot of salt and pepper. The staff and presenters are really nice. It's a good thing to do with your family. They even shout out your birthdays. I recommend to go for the experience and not the food. read more

This Polynesian Fire Luau was one of the best shows that I have ever been to. You were greeted with the kindest people dressed in lovely Hawaiian attire and bright smiles. You then walk into a room with an awesome gift shop consisting of items made and shipped from Hawaii! A man on the other side takes your family's picture and you can purchase it later for only $20. As soon as you enter, a person will explain what goes on. Basically there's a buffet and drinks, as well as a cash bar to purchase alcohol and soda. At the buffet, there was a great variety of Polynesian food such as chicken, fish, island potatoes, vegetables, fruit, rolls, and more. We expected the chicken to be dry, the potatoes to be unflavored, basically just that the food wouldn't be great because you're coming for the show. However, taking a bite, I realized that everything was flavorful and almost cooked just right! I was very surprised and I almost didn't want to throw it away. Then there was the red velvet cake; best cake I've ever had! No matter how full you are, you'll always have room for it because of how light the frosting is and how fluffy the cake is. After the waiters and waitresses collect your plates, a band will come on stage and sing the most beautiful Hawaiian songs. I could listen to them all day! After that they put on a great show, with interactive activities for all ages, beautiful hula dancers (I'm serious! They were gorgeous!) and fun, traditional dances performed by the men and woman. As the performances go on, they also teach you a bit about their history and give you many good laughs. And then the best part comes, where everyone gathers outside and the men put on an amazing show performing what they claim are the "most dangerous acts in Hawaiian culture" with poles of fire and crazy dancing. I truly enjoyed learning about their culture and seeing them do everything perfectly and beautifully. They made me want to visit Hawaii, no doubt! On top of all that, every single one of the workers and performers were kind beyond compare. Although it was a little pricy, it was totally worth it! read more

These seats should not be assigned. Next: they need a program. I was guessing who the people were and their ability through the entire program. The food was buffet. The food was something you would find at a business meeting Most of it was inside on a small stage . This was not the best place. The good part. The people were professional and nice.
