A Southern Indiana classic spot. We like to take our antique car out for rides and ice cream, and this is the spot we always hit. Its not fancy ice cream, but its classic. They always have a flavor of the month, as well as some fun flurry flavors. Last visit they had banana and it was strong but very good. Didn't taste fake. I believe the frozen yogurts come in different flavors too. And the sundaes always look super good. The food (aka non-ice cream) is marginal. Its kinda basic burger stand stuff. Haven't had the food in years, but from memory they had decent fries! They have some picnic tables through out the property to sit and enjoy your ice cream. I've been goin to pollys for 40 years and I will probably still go in the future but only for ice cream. Food just takes to long 1:20 min wait tonight between waiting in line and getting food. Most of the wait was for food. I don't know what's so different from previous owners but takes for ever now an d food definitely lower quality. Ice cream is still good but it's slow now also. A family of four can get dessert here for under $20. We usually go for burgers and onion rings too! The food, while far from fancy, is just perfection. Maybe it's the fresh air and sunshine and happy kids. There is a large field and picnic tables where we like to sit and take in the sunshine. It's the perfect spot to spend a summer evening catching up with friends. Bring a ball or some bubbles for the kids to play with! They'll want to stay for hours. The ice cream is tasty and rich and delicious. They have lots of old fashioned choices and each is better than the last! Excellent soft serve ice cream. I had the banana boat and my girlfriend had the upside down Elvis. The banana boat was half a slice of banana with 2 serving of soft serve ice cream with peaches and strawberries then whipped cream. Upside down Elvis consisted of peanut butter ice cream with hot fudge sauce, Heath bars and whipped cream. This place captures an atmosphere that newer places spend big money to try and capture (but don't!). Visiting this place is like entering a time capsule and stepping back in time. The food is typical of such places... burgers, fries, chicken/fish sandwiches, onion rings, etc. The dairy selection may just be the biggest I have ever seen... anywhere! My personal fav is the blueberry frozen yogurt cone made with real blueberries... it is incredible! There must literally be 500 ways to temp your frozen sweet tooth here! There is only outdoor seating, take notice of the weather before heading over. Orders are placed and received at windows that are not protected from the elements. The only downside is the parking and seating can easily fill up. And be prepared to stand in a long line. (Of course, if there are that many people waiting, it must be good!) Your best bet, for a first time visit, would be to not visit during lunch or dinner rushes. I live in the south end of Louisville, and I enjoy Polly's Freeze enough to make the short trip a few times each summer. read more

I'll jump right in here and say the food we had was beyond terrible. I swear the hamburgers were made out of mystery meat pounded to 1/100th of an inch thick and cooked until the patty turned green. Completely tasteless. Obviously they are frozen and made at a factory in some third world country. The fries were ok, nothing special. Now, the banana pineapple milkshakes were fantastic. We should have guessed that by all of the land whales in line for ice cream items. Another concern you should have is the slooooooow service. People are in line here all the time. When they are open, there is a line. Now the line isn't because there are a thousand customers; it's because they are very slow in filling orders. Overall, I'd stop for a shake if I was driving by and there wasn't a line. I drive by everyday though, and I've never "not" seen a line at the pick up window. Watch the traffic pulling in and out, people are not watching the road. read more

CLOSING TODAY - 9/25/16- FOR THE SEASON. I love this place. The sheer variety of delicious ice cream choices is enough to make your head spin. From the flurry, to cones, sundaes, milkshakes, boats....you really cannot go wrong. I also like their food..while nothing out of this world, it satisfies something in me that only good ole Americana food can. Favorite for me is the PollyBurger, dressed with cheese and French fries. I encourage making the short drive out to this little gem that has survived from the past to grace us in the present. A few things to note. It gets busy, but rarely have I had to wait more than 10 minutes, and that's even if I order food. You order and pay at the left window and pick up at the right window. Pay attention though. They call out the orders to be picked up from the second window, so remember what you got or the order number they told you to avoid any confusion. They are a seasonal establishment, usually open from April to September. They are very good about alerting when they open in the Spring on their Facebook page. The seating is outside with benches and tables spread around the grounds. My favorite spot is a bench facing the back of the property and it is a perfect spot if you're on an ice cream date. read more

My absolute favorite is getting a soft serve cone rolled in a delectable mix they call Twinkle. I have to say the people that work there are very friendly and it definitely has that southern Indiana hospitality feel that you really can't get any where else in the country. Also the land that its on is very nice and there is plenty of tables and benches to sit out and enjoy your ice cream. The dairy, lets just say if you had to go to a baseball game and wanted to see all of your favorite players at once this place is like that when it comes to they dairy selection. They have EVERYTHING. I have also not had any ice cream here that id don't like. Definitely should try their waffle cones that they make in house, these things are excellent. There is also so many different options to make your very own mouth watering dessert. On the food side its just okay. if you are looking for a snack to go along with your ice ream and to maybe break up that sweet flavor then i would get something. I recommend placing your order at the window instead of their online option. The last time we went we ordered online and waited and waited and waited some more. I never heard them call my order number as being ready. When I got tired of waiting I walked up to the pick up window to ask about my order and it had been ready for 20 minutes. Food was under a heat lamp and milkshakes in the freezer. The food was still good but the shakes had to thaw a bit before we could enjoy them. Ok I get it - the place is super cute. The patio tables are under shade and the atmosphere is great on a nice night. If you look at Polly's as just ice cream the review would go up to four stars - everything is solid from creamy chocolate shakes to every flavor ice cream you could want. And it is all good - not great - but good. One the other hand the food is just okay - the Polly Burger is a thin piece of overcooked meat on a not quite fresh bun - the lettuce, onion (lots of onion) and tomato were super fresh and it was fine. The onion rings were soggy like they had been fried in not quite hot enough oil. Fries were frozen and need something to kick them up - salt/pepper? Stick to the sweets at Polly's. read more
