We had ages from my 100 year old father-in-law, to a 1 1/2 year old dachshund and everyone loved their food. My father-in-law had the bbq sandwich and a hot fudge sundae. The pup had a pup cup! Every one in between had either a Polly Burger, hot dog, fried cheese sticks, fish and chips, root beer float, flavorbursts cone, banana split, sundae, and dole whip. Yummy delicious. My review is not about a visit but about a visit that did not happen. I tried to order a carryout by phone. I was told to go on line to order. When I got to the online order it was not accepting orders. So guess what I went down the street to the other end of town and got a delicious meal. They answer their phone, took our order and we picked up our food in 15 minutes. Guess our new favorite local place is not Polly's. read more

Polly's Freeze was a family member's favorite place, and we used to come here together every week when I was a young kid. I'm so glad that it didn't close down when the original owners retired. It's still one of my top ice cream spots, but their fries are also killer and should not be discounted when considering the menu (tip: order the fries and dip them in vanilla soft serve). I have been visiting this quaint place for decades. It is generally crowded but service is typically fast. I like that they added more parking. I like the frozen banana. I would like to see sugar free and dairy free items added to the menu. I really like that the building and sign has not changed to be more modern. Somethings should never change:) read more

Polly's Freeze is a regional treat, and I'm glad I finally had the opportunity to visit. My family and I stopped after our trip to Bryant's Blueberries. I got an Oreo flurry. My husband got a Polly's Freeze Special (cone rolled in peanuts with vanilla ice cream), and my son got a vanilla soft serve with sprinkles. Polly's Freeze has a walk-up window with its ample menu listed all along the front. It takes a minute to take it all in. And then there are picnic tables and other seating on either side. Our treats were great and hit the spot. The only hiccup was that they took 25 minutes or so to come out. We ended up asking about our order, and we found out that our order was put with the hot food orders, not ice cream. So if it's taking a bit, you might want to inquire. read more

I've been going to Polly's Freeze since I was a youngster. It was great then, and it still holds up today! It's on the side of the road with plenty of space to spread out when you eat. You order at the counter and wait for them to call your number. You can get hot food and of course cold desserts. My family has always loved the rotating sherbet (this is actually the place where I learned the word is sherbet, not sherbert). The soft serve is so creamy and flavorful that you'll be tempted to get another. This is an awesome neighborhood spot! It's a small dairy freeze that is totally a mom & pop restaurant. I got a cheeseburger meal with a peanut butter sundae. Yeah, I said peanut butter. It was very tasty. There is no seating inside but that's 100% part of the charm of Polly's. Several families were eating their lunch while I was waiting my meal to be prepared. My only issue was that no one seemed in any hurry to get meals out to customers. I did see a sign while I waited in anticipation for my number to be called that they accept online orders. Polly Freeze has an extensive menu, it's so big that it just doesn't fit most of the stuff that they actually have available. There's always another way to order a certain sundae, or a raspberry swirl to add to your vanilla soft serve, so make sure to ask what the employee recommends before ordering! This time I got the Elvis sundae, it's peanut butter ice cream with banana, hot fudge, whipped cream, and bits of peanuts. The location is perfect- full of picnic tables and benches to enjoy your food or ice cream on! This is a local favorite and my wife won't let us visit without stopping here for ice cream with "twinkles" on it. I personally don't think there is anything exceptional about the ice cream as it's mostly soft serve. It is good ice cream but I think the outdoor atmosphere is more nostalgic than anything else. This is an old fashioned ice cream shop where you walk up to a window and order. They serve at the next window and then you can sit at a picnic table outside. They have a few that are covered and several that are uncovered. It's a great spot to take kids on a summer evening and let them play. We hadn't been here for a few years and probably won't be back to our neighborhood food place. We usually get the Polly burger with a scoop of the BBQ on each. We ended up getting 2 Polly burgers with a scoop of BBQ on each burger with 1 order of fries. They used to charge 0.50 cents for each scoop.... this time they charged us over 3$ . They have changed the burger since the last time we were there.... could definitely taste a difference in quality. Not being native to the area, I do not have the nostalgia for Polly's that many seem to bubble over with, though I have come to enjoy an opportunity to go. Nestled up in the Knobs on the side of the road, Polly's has never not been bustling when I've visited. The atmosphere is more of a mountain diner on a curvy, Western road than something one finds in Southern Indiana. There are typically a handful of motorcycles and roadsters sprinkled amongst the more traditional transportation and a wide swath of people to match. I've only had a couple of items on the food menu. The fish sandwich is satisfactory, but the chicken simply tastes like salt. There's a reason it is called "Polly's Freeze" and not "Polly's Grill." The food isn't why you visit. You visit for the frozen deliciousness. The wide array or treats is amazing and can be overwhelming. There is most certainly something for anyone. Inside the small building, the service hums like a frantic beehive. There are just about as many people packed into that building as I think you can legally allow and each that I've dealt with is friendly, but seemingly near exhaustion. You will likely wait for your order, but there are certainly worse places to wait than this idyllic setting. read more
