This review pains me to write - as this is my #1 choice in places to eat. This was my first time ordering from this location and I could not have been worse. Ordered online for a 10:34AM pick up, to avoid the lunch delays (if you been here you know it isn't fast food). Arrived at 10:40, for the guy to tell me my order just came in through the system. I sat there for 10 minutes for him to hand me a bag full of food for 5 people. I told him I just ordered one item and he tried to tell me he didn't have my order. He told me it was my fault, I ordered from the wrong location, he couldn't help me and wouldn't even make my order. Said I could contact the 3rd party who operates their online ordering. Lol (Mind you I'm trying to show him my email confirmation verifying my name, Order number, and location - but he won't look at it). Then I tell him to just place another order and I'll double pay since I need to eat. Then he finds the name to read off the names of online orders he has received to prove a point and guess what?!?! My name was on his list... with my order. Haha So after 30 minutes, I get my soggy food that's been sitting in the window while I argue with a man who doesn't want to listen or find solutions. I submit a complaint to their corporate (while waiting) and they called me 10 times.... I'm working. I can't answer. I hit deny, they call right back. Great service! I recently visited this location during two different icas and both times I had great service! I also visited the northwest location and the Samuel location for their tortilla soup for the exact same orders(we know what we like ), these visits turned out to be very unpleasant. This location is a bit father than the other 2 from my job and home, but for us it is worth the drive. I applaud this location for their consistent quality in food and service! read more

I went through the drive through and ordered a platter. The person on the other side was dry and short. Didn't give me any options on which meats they had available and sounded annoyed. There were 2 cars ahead of my, yet I waited almost 30 minutes before I saw the cashier at the window. I got charged for the food and after waiting for an additional 15 minutes, I walked inside to either get my order or a refund. They added me the food, without saying anything or even acknowledging me. El Pollo Regio is the newest & current tenant replacing Sam's Southern Eatery - who closed down months after opening. Sam's replaced Alligator Cafe (who moved to Casa Linda Plaza) who replaced KFC. The building itself is particularly small, so space is limited. However when KFC and Alligator Cafe were tenants at least it didn't feel so over crowded. So I waltz in & it seemed they just stuff enough tables and chairs to fit into a small space. Leaving very little space for customers to place orders. It was very uncomfortable standing between two tables of patrons eating while I'm awaiting to place my (take out) order. So finally the line moved along and I was a little underwhelmed with the menu. Each item had a picture, # and text in both english & spanish. So ordering shouldn't be an issue. I wasn't going to embarrass myself with my high school spanish so I stuck with the numbers. Everything was reasonably fixed priced $4.99, $5.99, $6.99, $7.99, $8.99 and their most expensive $14.99 - which is a whole chicken meal. There is a total of 16 items on the menu - two of which is a choice of whole or half chicken (not including side items and kids menu). The rest was soup, salad, bake potato, hamburger, taco, burrito, etc. Most giving you an option of meat (beef, chicken and/or pork). I played it safe and ordered a medio pollo (half chicken) meal. Which came with 1/2 a roast chicken, tortilla, rice, beans, half a grilled onion, half a lemon and two types of sauce. It also comes with a drink if you order between 10 am to 4 pm M - F. I was surprised to see the chicken had already been cooked, cut and wrapped sitting in a food warmer box. So don't expect a Boston Market experience where they remove chicken out of their roaster and chop it. Not here. The portions were huge for half a chicken, that I ended up sharing it. The chicken was nicely season but nothing to write home about. However the beans had chunks of bacon and pork, Yes real actual bacon and a huge chunk of pork belly (with the fat). The salsa is good - one is a spicy green, creamy avocado based another was a red tomato base. I don't know if it was my hunger but I liked it and returned a week later and tried a few other items. Not a replacement for KFC or Alligator Cafe but it's a step up from Sam's Southern Eatery. Here's to hoping it lasts longer than a few months unlike *cough* Sam's. read more

Like most complaints, the salsa bar needs work. The pico de gallo, cabbage and jalapeños, and onions with habanero did not look pleasing. Each looked as if they were old. There was some confusion with my order and I did not receive all the items I paid for but the quality of the chicken, rice and beans were up to par. Staff were nice as well. My husband got a whole chicken meal here at BALCH Springs right next to whataburger. It's on Lake June rd. April 23, 2022 it was a Friday. I ate some and it was not cooked all the way. I was excited to go and always go here- pretty good food but this location here has bad service. They have a walk up window but forget about the people walking up. The lady serving us - gave us our food and made us wait another 15m just to give us our drinks. Finally another place with a drive thru hits the streets of near east Dallas! This should be of particular interest since all the other fast food spots in the area sell predominantly deep fried or super carb-heavy junk. That's not to imply that El Pollo Regio doesn't have artery blocking items for your enjoyment as well, but those they do offer are likely not as bad for your midsection as Cinnabon or fried chicken. The half chicken meal comes with a quartered 1/2 fire grilled chicken, wrapped in paper with 1/2 an onion, a small tub of beans (wrapped in plastic wrap so it doesn't spill), a small tub of spanish rice, 6 or so corn tortillas in foil, and a smaller container of salsa. $8.99. The whole chicken is $14.99. On my last visit, I spruced up my half chicken meal with a side salad, but was sad to find how small it was. It's served up in the same size container as that which holds a small rice/beans. Not worth the $3 for the salad alone, but that creamy green dressing that comes with it maybe pushes it over the edge into 'I would do that again' territory. If you like ready-to-eat chicken, but you both do not want it fried and are too lazy to get out of your car to get one from El Rancho, stop by El Pollo Regio!
