Delicious chicken + Yucca & best plantains ever
    Engrish T.

This place is an absolute gem. The chicken was well seasoned, juicy and delicious. The yucca was perfect, soft on the inside, crispy on the outside. But what blew me away were the plantains. They were the best I've ever had!! Loved that they were cut smaller to maximize caramelization. The photo is missing the other 3/4 of the chicken cuz they were on our plates. Can't wait to pick up my kiddo from JMU to come here again.

    Carne Asada

Stopped by here during lunch time. The guy taking our order at the register was nice and helpful as it was our first time trying this place out. I got the carne asada and my niece got a quarter chicken with fries and yuca. My carne asada was ok but I felt like it lacked flavor. The beans and rice were just ok as well. My niece's chicken was really small, she ordered a quarter chicken but it was super tiny. I tried a piece and wish I had ordered that instead of the carne asada. The chicken was really flavorful. Don't know if I'd go back but if I did it would just be for the chicken.

    Pretty damn good chicken.

I was passing through Harrisonburg and I was in one of my cravings and this time for some Peruvian chicken and some yuka. Yelp to the rescue and it led me to this hidden gem. Apparently this used to be some other restaurant but this new one is a hole in the wall. The owner is this young man who was very friendly and approachable. He recommended to spice it up using a tabasco sauce on the white rice which gave the rice a kick. Their rotisserie chicken is seasoned perfectly. I ordered the half chicken and I ate it down to the bone, sucking each bone until the flavor was gone. Another favorite thing here is their GREEN SAUCE, which is homemade according to the owner. That green sauce is definitely spicy so beware. However the spiciness is like wasabi as it is hot for a little bit and then disappears ready for your next bite. The yuka satisfied my craving, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, not burnt; I devoured that as well. If you're looking for MOIST, TENDER DELICIOUS CHICKEN and perfectly cooked YUKA, I would recommend this FOODGASM spot.

If you are looking for a lively atmosphere for a date night or a night out with friends, Mas tapas is for you! The staff here is incredible; helpful with their selections and operates like a family. When introducing others to Charlottesville, this is my go to. I cannot even begin to unpack the vibrancy of the food. Anything with aioli is a hit! It's a reminder of the strength of the Charlottesville food scene. It glows with that warm, golden-hour energy -- the hum of conversation, the clink of glasses, the scent of garlic and olive oil drifting through the air. Every dish feels like a small act of intention. The ultimate real pleasure is the rhythm of the place: tapas arriving slowly enough to savor, fast enough to keep you leaning in for more; an atmosphere that manages to feel both lively and deeply relaxed. It's the true peak: a simplicity and richness; a love note in the shape of a restaurant. Must try: - Gambas à la Parilla - Datil Con Tocino -queso con marmelada -ensalada Lechuga -papas bravas

We ordered the mussels and some of them were gritty, and there wasn't much flavor from the Sofrito.

Nice ambiance in the first level of a house, but apparently understaffed ( guess this is a common theme in Elkins)...waited about 5-10 minutes to be greeted until my husband went directly to a server. Eventually seated. Hubby enjoyed his food: a spicy shrimp soup and chicken empanadas. My food was just ok; an acorn squash soup that was a bit bland and one of their specials, sweet and spicy Thai with chicken: chicken overcooked, not too much of it, and prepared in corn/cheese (?), which I wasn't expecting. Rice was rather bland, too. Server was friendly, but not very attentive. Probably because she was back and forth to the back room where there's a bar and a DJ ( at lest when we were there last night). The 2 glasses of sangria were good, and the total bill came to about $52 without tip. This could have been such a better experience; management take notice regarding staffing but maybe that's a continuation of a bad trend...

I did manage to get there on Saturday just as they opened for dinner. El Gran Sabor is located in a converted vintage home; there is a small bar area and a medium sized dining room. The decor is comfortable and homey. Service was good and the menu pulls from both Mexican and Venezuelan cuisine which sounded like a great idea after a hard day of skiing. I ended up ordering the Shrimp Cachapa since I had not had this item before. This is a corn pancake topped with shrimp, vegies and cheese sided with rice and beans. A very tasty dish and just the kind of balanced meal to have after a day of exercising; also an item I have not seen on other menus before so I always like to try new things. I also really enjoyed the cup of spicy shrimp soup that came with the meal, rich shrimp flavor with a nice hit of spice warmed me to the core and got the meal off to a great start. I would strongly recommend El Gran Sabor if you are looking for a meal in Elkins, this was far and away the best meal I had during my visit and I would head back if I were in the area again. Definitely the culinary highlight of my vacation.

(Many people do not eat pork, the only RW alternative to steak.) The butternut squash soup was like puréed baby food: not like soup. The server was very pleasant. The ambiance is quite plain: a little decorative effort would be worthwhile as the food is quite good. The atmosphere should be more special to be in-line with prices & quality. I would go back!

We weren't sure how big they were but when they arrived we realized they're the size of a small taco. The breading was good but the meat didn't have much flavor without the sauce which was really good. We then ordered the chicken and avocado arepa. It was the size of my palm and filled with what I'd describe as chicken salad mixed with avocado. It was ok but not my favorite. I'm a small eater so for me, I'd need two empanadas as a meal but my husband would definitely need 4 and he's an average eater. At $6 for each little empanada (comes without sides or a drink) and $12 for each arepa (comes without sides or a drink), the price just doesn't seem worth it. The service was good and if the price matched the servings we would try again but not at the current price.

I have now been to Cuban Burger twice almost three times. The third time we weren't offered a table as my daughter and I had 7 Brew drink in our hand so we didn't have lunch there that day. I will say that I love the flavors of Cuban. Everything I have tried has here been not but amazing. I loved their guava mint gingerale. Their Yuca with green sauce is amazing, along with the empanadas. The burgers and plantains are on point. I would love a cuban coffee added to the menu for after my meal. Here is why this review isn't getting five stars from me. The guy at the door is a little non-welcoming to put it nicely. I noticed it twice. He seems to make assumptions of why you are there. The first time was Sip and Stroll weekend when my husband and I entered the building and told us we should order from the window outside (assuming we were there for Sip and Stroll which we were not) when we were there for lunch. The second time I noticed was when my daughter and I were not offered a table as we had cups in our hands from 7Brew. He assumed we were there to pick up. Then after we said okay and turned to leave he is even yelling at us that there on signs on the door that state that (which we did not notice) so we couldn't bring them in. I totally get rules but I just feel he could have come across less harsh and perhaps we would have put them in the car and come back in for lunch. That day we decided to try some place different. I will say my server both times has been great though. The food has been great. I would like to come back but I am a little put off by the host guy. Not sure if we will try a new restaurant next time we are in town or we will give Cuban Burger a shot again.
