5 Stars for their bone selection and prices. They have the ultimate supply of any and all bully products for your dog - knots of all sizes, sticks, rings... Most aren't overly expensive either [some are a bit on the high side]. The treats are awesome - you can buy them by the ounce which helps save a little money and get you some variety! I love the items downstairs - clothes, leashes, collars, etc. but they're all a little too pricey for me and my dog, which brings them down to 4 stars. Not enough can be said about this place! Friendly knowledgable staff really helps you when you just don't know what you are doing. VERY VERY helpful. The place has the best treats and you know you are getting quality which for your dog is the ONLY thing you should be getting. And the layout of this place is awesome in a town of a lot of hyperspeed shopping they get it that I just wanna take my time and not be pressured or "checked on" every five minutes. The review is a compilation review for product and their website. I have purchased their cod treats for years and my dogs love them, however, I recently placed an order on their website for 6 cases of dog food - I received 2 emails telling me they were behind in their orders but my order would be on its way soon.. 12 days later I received an email asking if I really meant to order 6 cases - perhaps I meant to order 6 cans - I replied that 6 cans would be pretty expensive $$254 ... and then I was told the items were not available. Apparently they company never had the items, but I went on their website that day and yet they were still selling the item. It is now7 days later and I have yet to receive the credit. They may make delicious dog treats but their business practices are horrific. They would get a 5+ for the treats and a negative 5 for their online business... read more

This lovely high-end doggy bakery and boutique really hit the spot for my canine pal. He didn't like taking the T to get there, but he loved the neighborhood (lots of dogs to meet and greet!) and was relaxed once we set foot into the store. He's usually pretty nervous in new places, but he actually sat back and smelled some treats. It was great. We got him a toy and an assortment of high-end doggy goodies, and I had to resist the urge to run out of the store when they gave me my total. I was prepared for expensive, but I got sticker shock. The treats were a great success, though - the doggy loved them and keeps going back to sniff the bag as if to say "Can I have some more, mom?" Yes, Ben, you can. Because I have more money than sense. We'll definitely be back, and I'll probably continue to cringe at the price. read more

I took my goofy not-so-little dog here last weekend for the first time, and he loved it. The store itself is small, but has two levels, and a WIDE variety and selection of gourmet dog foods and treats. They even have pre-made raw food, which is AMAZING. I always make sure that my pooch has the best food available, and while it does get time consuming to hunt down stores that carry it, and it's expensive, it is WELL worth the trouble and money. The staff here was friendly, but not overly helpful. It wasn't too busy when I stopped by, and while they greeted me and said hi, they didn't go out of their way to find out anything about my dog or offer any help or suggestions. I noticed that they do carry the specialty food that I feed Alfred, but they only carry the small bags (6 lbs). When you have a 75 lb dog, you need to buy bags that are two and three times that size. I'm assuming you can probably order the food from them, but it would have been nice if they had the larger bags available in stock. They had a great selection though -- EVO, Innovo, California Natural, and Solid Gold -- some of the best and healthiest holistic/natural dog foods on the market. There are also treats galore! I liked how a lot of the treats were up on higher shelves so that my mischievous dog couldn't lick and chew the treats. There were some buckets of treats down on the ground, but I somehow managed to get my dog to not devour them on sight. I ended up picking up a bag of homemade treats, some bully sticks and braids, pig ears, and other goodies for Alfred. My bill came to about $50, which is a little pricey, but not exorbitant. read more

I love Polka Dog! They have such cute things, and it's conveniently located next to the dog park. My dog loves the treats (although there are very few he won't eat.) But I love them just as much because they aren't stinky and are so adorable. The staff is extremely helpful, pointing me to the best treats for my dog and even telling me they would order a specific frisbee that my dog LOVES and I can't find anywhere in the city. My little yorkie poo, Digger goes everywhere with me. Even when I travel for business, which is why I discovered Polka Dog in Boston. This cute little store was so much fun and I would very much recommend it to anyone. They have a lot of fun stuff for your spoiled pets, and mine is Very spoiled. I was really impressed by the bakery treats, they were just gorgeous...i would have liked to eat one myself. Digger liked just about everything he tried and the staff was generous in their taste testing. I got him a new collar, not that he needs one, but I couldn't resist. Definitely a cute little doggie treat boutique, but the owner/worker(s) have never really had a very cheerful disposition or seem to have really cared that Brody and I were in the store. I can't stay away, because they truly do have the best of the best when it comes to toys and homemade treats and chews, but I a little underwhelmed by the not so 'welcoming' atmosphere. EDIT: I don't know if it was my post or if I just caught the staff during bad times but my last 4 trips to Polka Dog have been nothing but wonderful! I just want to let it be known that these people are some of the hardest working in the city! They are always super helpful, especially if you have an honest and important question. I mean, of course they can answer the wide-ranging question that I am sure they hear at least a thousand times a day, " what do you think my dog would like?" But when it comes to the knowledge of their products, it is as if the more specific the better (which, in my personal opinion, is the only way to go). And for the space that they have, the selection is amazing! They couldn't fit any more in there unless they started to hang things from the ceiling. Don't let that fool you into thinking that it's cramped and disorganized, because everything is in order, easy to find, and if you are having trouble finding what you want, you can ask one of the great staff to help you out. This is a great spot to grab a gift for a puppy in your life. They have a downstairs full of toys and leashes and collars. The bakery upstairs is where they make tons of treats (which they sell in cute packaging). They have a bunch of glass jars with treats and chewy toys (the fermented yak milk stick lasts forever and the dogs love it). Also lots of fun toys upstairs. I've only ever purchased gifts here but I know they have food and dog-paw-friendly salt for the sidewalk, too. I agree with other reviews here: Polka Dog sells the largest variety of carnivorous dog treats that I have ever seen: bully sticks, fish skin chewies, liver chips, salmon coins --- literally the widest variety anywhere. They sell bully sticks wound up like snakes, and other ones tied like knots. They sell bully sticks that must be three feet long. They sell thigh bones from cows that must be 10 pounds. The variety is incredible. It is a dog carnivore's version of a candy store! They also sell a good brand of frozen raw dog food, K9 Cravings, which is a expensive but the highest quality. If you are looking for the highest quality products from a dog boutique that is the opposite of the large dog warehouse stores that smell from aquarium algae, this is the place. Owner is incredibly knowledge about his products and dog needs. My only quibble is that prices are high. It is like a dog version of Whole Foods Supermarket: everything is expensive. read more

This place is awesome. Expensive, but my baby is SO worth it. I bought her a kick ass hot pink harness that people always compliment......I have brought her a variety of their "highend" doggie treats. It really looks like you are at an upscale bakery and hell, it costs as much....After the big dog food recall I tried some of their crazy frozen dog food but, alas, Cassie (my puggle) is picky and has a queeeeeezzy stomach. It didn't agree with her.....somewhat happy because it would have cost me a TON to keep up with purchasing it...though she *is* worth it. So definitely take the trip with your pet or solo...be prepared to dish out some dough, but have a lot of fun picking through their awesome merch and yummy dog treats......or, ah, so Cassie says....lol read more

When I first came to the South End, I told myself that I would never go to this place. That was before I got a dog and realized that I hate pet supermarkets like Petco or Petsmart and I like being able to go to someplace in the neighborhood. Yes, the harnesses, leashes and cashmere sweaters here are expensive. They are also not nylon pieces of crap like you might get elsewhere, so you can pay extra and get something nice. It's like the other people boutiques in the South End. The treats, which are the real reason we go in, are reasonable. Actually, if you take your dog in there they will give him lots of treats for free under the counter. Our guy knows this and always tries to stop here when coming back from the dog park. They have fresh baked goodies and plenty of bones, pigs ears, bull penises, and other gross things dogs like to chew on. We often go for a Bully Stick or something small and get out spending just a few dollars. All of the employees there are super nice and helpful and they all love dogs. I don't ever feel like I have to buy something from them when I go in. Everyone who works there seems like they like being there. Don't forget to check out the lower level. The stairs going down are hidden behind the employees counter and the first few times we went in we had no idea there were more toys and things downstairs. read more

This store is great! A convenient location to Peter's Dog Park, an extremely helpful staff and a great selection of dog food/treats/accoutrement. Their dog treats selection is unmatched in the area, all bones/cookies are fresh and plentiful. Their cookies themselves are sold in the majority of independent dog stores in the area and it is great to go to the source. They are dog friendly, which is a big plus and they certainly know what they are talking about when it comes to dogs. My dog looks forward to our trips there as do I. My old Golden Retriever had become an impossibly picky eater as a result of an internal tumor that was pushing on her stomach. The goods at the Polka Dog Bakery and the advice from the kind staff there has changed everything for her. They have numerous varieties of healthy and delicious dog foods that got my Golden eating again. I am sure that the high quality foods and treats that they have given me has nutritionally been the best thing for her and has kept my 12 1/2 year old love alive way longer than anyone expected. I've loved Polka Dog Bakery since before I even had a dog! I no longer live in Boston but my in-laws do and they send us generous monthly care packages from Polka Dog for our very lucky pup. They have a wonderful selection of treats, food, and accessories and the people who work there are usually very pleasant. However, I was extremely disappointed on my last visit 10/8. My mother in law was a bit over-zealous with the treats and realized after they rung up to $40 that she wanted to put some back. The female employee was very polite and helped her do this but the male employee huffed about it and seemed very put out. Afterwards he was quite snappy. When they thought our group was gone (my sister in law was still in the shop), he said loudly "I don't know why some people don't want to spend money on their pets." This directed at a group who had spent over $75 that day, and who purchase treats monthly. Also, it's a dog bakery. Not really a necessity, so the repeat customers are clearly ok with spending frivolous and fun money on their pets. Please show a little more graciousness toward the people who support you. read more

My pooch and I love this place!!! It is so unfortunate that there are so many dog lovers in the city, but not enough dog boutique.... There are a few but I haven't been so impressed. So that is why Polka Dog Bakery is our favorite!! After walking around the south end, stopping by a dog park that is a couple blocks away, and going to Yorkie Meet-up at Doggie Days in the same area, we stop by Polka Dog Bakery. Actually the pink camo shirt on my pooch's pic is from PDB. I also always get her some fish skin treats!!! She loves it!!! Oh my goodness, there are so many choices of treats, fresh bakery... and cool clothes!! Plus we meet very nice other dog owners and staff at store. I am only giving 4 out of 5 because I have been to better dog boutiques before in mainly CA and IL. I want to preface this by saying how cute this store is and how nice the people that work there are. HOWEVER, my dog threw up on several occasions immediately after eating treats from Polka Dog - months apart. I gave him the Cheery-O's (chicken jerky) and some little duck ones as well, both of which were grain free. I don't think it's a coincidence, nor do I want to give something to my dog that will make him sick - especially something that is supposedly high quality and is priced at a premium. If you do go here, be forewarned and try out one or two pieces before committing to larger quantities. read more

My 4 yr old happy healthy frenchie was just diagnosed with a brain tumor. The animal hospital was shocked when pulling up his MRI images as we were expecting fluid in his ears, & I am beyond heartbroken & devastated. I am on day one of getting meds into him before he starts radiation, & I was at my wit's end with my stubborn bully-I tried everything-pill pockets, baked chicken, ham, yogurt, peanutbutter, cheese, broth...he wasn't having it. I had a few crumbles from an old package of chicken/cranberry soft chews that I bought from Polka Dog a year ago. My pup took his pills like a champ with these treats-they weren't even hidden as the treats are crumbly. In desperation, I called the store & explained the situation, hoping they would overnight me a package as I live an hr from their store & didn't want to leave my pup. They are delivering the treats to my door themselves tonight!!! I am in tears at their kindness. Sorry for my long review. My picky pup can attest to the quality & tastiness of their ingredients, & I am here to give a shoutout to a business with a heart. Spread the word & show them some love. Shop local!!! read more
