My experience was pretty good. Went about two weeks ago. Having grown up on the east coast finally finding somewhere i can get a decent slice. Seems yall want a restaurant experience for a pizza shop, lol. I mean ready made pizza on display, if you want a pie to go BAM done. It's as close to NJ/NY style you will find around, a little greasy but otherwise good for a slice on the go or Friday pizza night. As for the workers guess what they did....their jobs as a high school or college employee working a job for the first time or for some extra pocket change. They we great I ordered my food that i could see on the counter, got my food in a timely manner and ate. Also be advised if you haven't been to a pizza stop like this clean up after YOURSELF, and don't be mad about it. It is pizza people not a dining experience. Deco could be updated but not mad made me feel like I was back in my pizza shop in Jersey with a NY twist to it. Have fun with it, they offer a good selection of specialty pizzas also so try something new. Had a slice of pepperoni and pepperoni bacon ranch. Both were great slices. If you find a problem with the pizza I would just ask them to throw it back in the oven a minute or two for a more well done slice. I had my family with me, they enjoyed themselves and would take them again. We must have stayed for a good 45 minutes and nobody bothered us customer and employee alike. Overall it's different than what this region is used to for pizza. That doesnt means it's not great pizza. Their pizzas are in the "OK" category. It is about the only place around where you can get a 20" and the cannolli are good. My main issue with their pizza is it always seems like it could use a couple more minutes in oven. It's done, but the cheese is always just barely melted and the pizzas are really soft. When I went with a decent sized group of people to order ourselves each a pizza for lunch, we were met with harsh, rude words and attitude towards us. We were there with the others to learn about shopping local and spending money towards our community besides spending them on big corporations with large amounts of money. I was originally excited about shopping locally instead we felt very poorly about our experience and disrespected of the service we received as a group. The employees then proceeded to start swearing at us and yelling at us to get into a line after we already were, then they started to complain about how many of us there were. Added onto us giving them their money and business. After all of that we were met with even more yells of not being in the correct area to pay, but none of that was told to us. and not all of us are in a restaurant everyday to know this. In the end we were harassed for giving them business, and after we emailed them about this they took no accountability for there actions and told us to call previously so they can prepare there pizza, which left me puzzled. Why aren't your pizzas ready to be made for your costumers when you should be expecting business? They should never treat there costumers this way and we will all not be coming back to this store for years to come unless this issue is fixed. read more

I was very unhappy that one of the male workers who was older acted like a child while my friends and I were ordering our food. First he lied about what pizzas politos had ready in term of pizza slices. Then he continued to yell at us and talk down to us about asking for a box to go for our garlic knots. Pizza has been around for a long time. Mac and cheese has been around for a long time. I like innovative and risky foods, and their mac and cheese pizza is surprisingly good. This place is right near Pearl Street, and pretty unassuming. They sell pizza by the slice and they also have beer. I haven't really had much pizza in La Crosse, except for Big Al's across the street, but this is a different kind of pizza entirely. Thin crust, fast, and single slices. There are some hard surfaces in the restaurant so it can be a little bit loud, but a quiet pizza place is kind of creepy right? Stop by and get a slice, grab a cold beer and sit down and relax for a few minutes. This place is worth the stop. read more

After a beer at Pearl Street we managed to find Polito's. Being unfamiliar with La Crosse pizza, we searched Yelp and thanks to Josh M's review, decided to take a chance on Polito's. The place is a little strange, not a warm and cosy feel, more like a warehouse. There are just a few tables, but I guess most people get carryout. They have several pizzas made up and you can buy by the slice. They don't look all that appealing under the glass, being cold and all, but they warm them up for you and I guess are just fine. We wanted to eat there, so ordered a freshly made 14 incher with sausage, green olive and mushrooms. The style was what we like. I guess it is New York or east coast style. Reasonably thin, but not cracker thin. The pie was well covered and piping hot when it arrived. The crust was perfect. The bulk Italian sausage was plentiful and flavorful. This thing just got better and better as it cooled. The cheese was good quality, rubbery and buttery with enough salt. They used ample olives and mushrooms as well. I give it four stars although Ms T says five. We have had so much mediocre pizza lately, this was a lucky find. read more

Great NY style pizza, sold by the slice or the pie. Big Slice, you really need to fold it in half the long way to keep it stable enough to shove in your mouth. Super good tasting options. The garlic knots are great too. Atmosphere? Great, if what you like is minimalistic old downtown building, uncomfortable seating with no TV and staff that is moderately surly. A few soda options and a couple of bottled beers. round out your visit. But you don't come to Polito's for the conversation, the atmosphere or anything else - you go for the pizza. So go. read more

I ordered 6- 20" pizzas for my sons baseball team. Delivery was about 30 minutes behind but got their right as we needed to feed 20 hungry boys. Meh...this place is okay. They serve New York style pizzas and I have had much better elsewhere (and not just in New York). I ordered a plain cheese slice and overall it was subpar. The dough was not crisp enough on the bottom and it was blander than white bread. They also only used mozarella cheese and way too much of it which made the pizza extra greasy. The sauce just tasted like tomato and nothing else. A very one note sauce, no depth of flavor at all. Service was average. The dining area decor was really sparse and not very inviting. We stopped in Sat night about 9 pm. Zero persons there. Employees not wearing masks. We asked if they had sausage and mushroom slice. The current employee with the mustache treated me with no respect and had an awful attitude to the point where I almost left. If you don't want to work or be there, don't. I was with my son and his family at the Lacrosse location on Saturday, Nov 19, 2022 at about 4:30 pm. It was very quiet. My two granddaughters are 4 and 7 and they don't have all the patience in the world. I ordered two large pizzas and we went towards the back of the restaurant to a booth and were the only ones in a booth for most of the time we were there. We had done this at the Wausau location and they had been here before and had a good idea of how long it took. (typically, 15 minutes) The kids were hungry. 5 pm, no pizza. 5:15 pm, no pizza. I did not want to be rude so we just sat there trying to be polite and not impatient. At 5:30 pm my sister in law went to get a few refills on our soft drinks and saw 2 large pizza boxes at the pick-up area. They had put someone else's name on the order and after checking, our $50 worth of pizza was there getting cold. They only mumbled and did not apologize. We ate a few slices of semi-warm pizza and went on our way. On our way out they made no attempt at apologizing or saying the typical "thank you" I'm accustomed to at the Wausau location, which I go to at least once a week. There are many other choices in the Lacrosse area. This one is off the list now for the next time I come take them out. read more

The closest to NY Style pizza we've found in the area. However, If you've been to New York, you'll notice that Polito's "Big Slice" is about 3/4 the size of what you'll typically find at the local Mom & Pop stores. Still, their pizzais nice for folding, tasty crust, and good toppings. Also, wanted to note that they "punch" holes in the crust, something we never say in Upstate NY. We tried a bunch of their slices and we highly recommend the Chicken Quesadilla. Out of the five slices we tried, our least favorite was the Chicken Parmigiana; it wasn't bad, it was just out-shined by other slices that we preferred. You really come here to buy pizza-by-the-slice. I wouldn't want to order a whole pie, unless I called ahead to grab one on the way home. Not much of an eating area; its just a few booths. They don't have table service and you have to pick up your food from the counter. They do serve a few bottled beers. I'm not a fan of New Glarus, which is mainly what they serve. However, the cashier recommended Uff-da, which changed my mind on the brewery (I am now a fan, of that beer at least. Too bad it is seasonal). read more

First off, my 5-star rating is relative: Polito's is certainly the best pizza in La Crosse. It is not "as good as it gets", but I love it dearly and will weep if it ever closes. The pizza in La Crosse is universally terrible. Literally. No where makes a decent pie of any kind, not Pizza Amore, not Big Al's, not the Rivoli (are you serious?!), not Rocky Ricoco, not Topper's, not Edwardo's, not Ebeneezer's. It all sucks. Too much cheese, low-quality toppings, bad sauce, uninspired crust. I swear the best pizza I had tasted in La Crosse prior to Polito's opening was from Domino's. Yech! Thank god for Polito's -- very good NY-style pizza. Excellent crust, good selection of toppings (although the lack of anchovies should be rectified), not too much cheese, nice piquant sauce, slices to reheat or whole pies, great value. I don't know if I am personally ok with the idea that things like macaroni should be used as pizza toppings (all I need to be happy are pepperoni, sausage, capers, anchovies, and cracked green olives, used on a rotational basis). That said, the gyro pizza was excellent, and I *love* the fact that they always have several pre-made slices with lots of veggies. Go to Polito's.
