As a kid, I grew up with Polar Cub...it's a staple of Whitehouse Station. Lines can stretch pretty far in the summer-but the staff is so quick-and kind-and accommodating...the line goes quickly. I absolutely love Polar Cub...They've never gotten my order wrong-their ice cream is ridiculous...and, I hope they never ever consider closing or anything. Polar Cub doesn't boast about how many flavors, or local, organic ingredients. You won't find any odd or exciting flavors. What you will find is summer at its best: a neighborhood ice cream stand where everyone can find something they want without breaking the bank. The soft ice cream is outstanding, the hard ice cream is consistently good. The lines will always be long - but they really do move quickly. Plus, there isnt anywhere else nearby that's half as good. The toppings are plentiful, though I'd swear my hot fudge I'm eating right now is burnt (but I've been coming here for 20 years - first time it's been a little off). The whipped cream is actually whipped cream, NOT whipped cream topping. Add to that the prices are great - we got sundaes for 3 and an ice cream cone for $11. The only downside is parking - if it looks packed, we just park on the side street and walk over. The lot gets insane during the rushes. Everyone should try Polar Cub at least once. I'm writing this review in the middle of February, after a snowstorm; because I'm craving Polar Cub right now. If they were open, I'd be there now instead of writing this review...but they're not. So on with it. This place is always packed! The lines are long (but fast moving,) the parking lot is full (and causing traffic on Rt 22,) and it's all worth it. First, consider this. When they were closed (due to a fire) we had a tough time finding the next closest soft serve ice cream shop. So if you live in the area and want soft serve, well this seems to be your only option. (If I'm wrong, please do let me know where else so I can give it a try.) As for the ice cream itself, it's awesome. You don't get an icy sort of creamy soft serve. You get a cone full (size down, they're large) of very thick and creamy soft serve. You have a choice of vanilla, chocolate, or twist. If you're lucky, you can get their special flavors - I've had strawberry, banana, and pumpkin. I personally like the honey roasted peanuts as a topping to a vanilla. mmm..... read more

This busy ice cream shop sits along Route 22 near White House Station, NJ. Parking can be a bit of a challenge in the evening in the summer when everyone wants their ice cream fix, but usually there are a few open spots. The ice cream itself was quite delicious. I love Polar club. I love bringing the kids here and our dog as well as the lacrosse team friends from dance neighborhood kids etc. Brought my wife here tonight for a little mini date for ice cream. I could tell when I approached the window with the young girl with the earring in her bottom lip with no smile on her face that my experience wasn't going to be great. She seemed so put out. I asked her if she was having a bad night. she looked out at the line (it was 915 pm) and she said we're supposed to close in 45 minutes and I said I think those are your business hours. I suggested she smile. I reminded her she is selling ice cream and fun not plumbing supplies. (No offense to plumbing contractors out there). Awesome soft serve ice cream! Right on Route 22 heading west is a long time treat. The milk shakes are delicious and the soft serve is such a treat: fresh/smooth/rich/flavorful. And a large soft serve cone is a great value and quantity so be prepared for some cold nose/brain freeze when you order a large! The taste is in my mouth as I'm writing this review and wish I was there now....:) If you order a monster shake (I ordered a peanut butter monster shake one visit) it is delicious but huge! I'm restricted from sugar, but to my pleasant surprise, The Polar Club had a hard no sugar added Cherry Vanilla. It was so delicious!! Usually, the no sugar added ice creams in the grocery store have a gummy texture. Not Polar Club!! You would never know it was a no sugar added ice cream. Delish! Awesome. Here on Saturday after lunch. I had coffee ice cream , so good. Boys had soft serve. One chocolate dipped, one cherry dipped, one peanut crunch. Go-to ice cream place, no matter what! Lots of variety/options, really well-priced, and good flavor. The only downside is it closes a bit early and is ALWAYS busy so finding a spot to park can be hard, since they have a small lot. Definitely my favorite childhood place, though. read more
