Who doesn't like poki? One of a few places in town that serves poki. Not Hawaii but it'll do if you're craving something fresh and new. I believe there are 2 locations in town. One by UNM campus and the other on Wyoming. I've been to both but this review is of the location on Wyoming. Newly built and renovated and it looks awesome. This place also serves locally brewed beers which is a nice touch. Interior is very hipster and serves for a nice place to chill on a nice night. Food was decently priced and they do offer a variety of toppings and sauces to choose from. Overall very happy with the experience. Nice place, good food and great beer. Poki Poki! I wish I could eat here everyday! It feels like eating a super healthy FILLING meal. I have had about half of the menu bowls and they are all delicious. If you like a spicy profile, go for the Boss or Spicy Bowl. Pro-tip: Order the regular bowl inside a large bowl. It makes for easier and less messy mixing. Save the toppings! I would skip the menu beverages, there is a boba shop next door and I've seen a many people bring their own drinks. The seating layout not small child friendly. I bring my own small children here and we have to be creative. We like to sit upstairs since it is a bit quieter with less foot traffic, but there were no highchairs or boosters the last few times we ate. read more

Stopped on our road trip for lunch and was so excited because of the great gluten free options! The staff preparing the bowls was so attentive about cross contamination. Unfortunately when I was eating my bowl, I got a bite of salmon that tasted rancid like fishy ammonia. Could have been something else but I let someone know, and he was so helpful. He said he let the manager know and she would be over to help. When she came over, she seemed very disinterested about solving the issue and acted like I was full of shit :-) With a put-out attitude she said she could give me 2 tacos to go. While I had a great experience at the original location on Central, my experience at this location was not so good, with a variety of problems. This location is very popular, and was packed on a Saturday. Unfortunately, it does not appear to be a very sound-proofed space, and the noise made it difficult to hear both when ordering food, as well as when trying to have a conversation. Although my party beat a hasty retreat to the upstairs area in hopes of lower noise levels, sound in here tends to carry quite a bit, and the din from the ground floor was a bit deafening. The corner location is convenient, but the building lets quite a bit of noise from the street in as well, so in addition to the noise of the other patrons, you can hear the cars zooming by. Not exactly a relaxing experience. The staff at the counter asked me for my order, and then ignored my girlfriend, moving on to the next person behind her, based on the (incorrect) assumption that as a man, I was going to order for both of us. When we looked at eachother, confused, the server quickly remedied the situation and asked my girlfriend for her order. While I don't believe she intended to be rude, it wasn't a good way to handle our orders. This location also appeared to lack the boba available at the central location, with the main drinks on offer being a soda machine, low-quality ice tea, and jaritos, as well as a bar in the main area. Again in contrast to the central location, many aspects of the experience here reeked of cheap. The glasses used for the drinks are the thick plastic diner type, and the chairs were not particularly comfortable. While the Central location feels hip and chic, the Wyoming location feels less classy than a Chipotle. A huge disappointment. Having gone to the Central location, I was expecting the same level of quality. It just wasn't there. The drop in quality seemed to be reflected in the food as well. Having previously ordered the boss bowl, this time I branched out to the spicy bowl. It was mildly spicy, but the spicy sauce had a very simple flavor that washed out the flavors of all of the other ingredients. Would not order again. My friends and I also had some difficulty locating the metal chopsticks. While a great thing to have (saves on money and decreases waste), there were none on the top floor, and the ones on the bottom floor were tucked in a corner and a little difficult to recognize if you weren't looking for them. All that said, I'd be willing to come back again if I'm in the area, especially since there aren't a lot of other really excellent food options in the vicinity. I'd really like to see Poki Poki bring this place up to spec though. read more

Update! I came in today, it was dead so I was first in line. The gal who helped me out was great, she was fast, friendly, & efficient. My regular spicy bowl was just how I like it. It seems that Poki Poki isn't the same anymore.. central location continues to move each & every direction & the west side location is already closed. Wyoming seems to stay consistent so this is where I'll stay. This visit definitely redeemed itself from the last. read more

I had high hope's for my first visit to this newer restaurant, at least newer to the Northeast Heights, and I was not disappointed. I ended up creating my own bowl with white rice, shrimp, crab salad, some spicy sauces, and several vegetables, along with pickled ginger. It was fabulous. I really really enjoyed my meal. My two companions also enjoyed their meals which were slightly different than what I had. Great and fast service. We are already making plans to come back to try out the patio area. Mmm poke. Poki Poki Cevicheria seems to always be stocked with fresh, yummy ingredients. The number of selections can initially be overwhelming, but once you get the hang of reading the menu and picking out ingredients, it's a quick walk through the line to get what you want. I love all their different sauces and flavorings, and service has always been super kind and helpful. Another plus is that they use Fivestars, so you can rack up points and get some freebies, especially since it's not the cheapest meal either. The entire location is fun, and since it's all the same owner, you get food, drinks, beer, and dessert without having to make an extra trip elsewhere. read more

We had been eyeing it since it opened, but because I got a great cut by my homie Angelo at true urban barbershop (righty next door) we decided to try it finally. We started with the crispy salmon skins. OOOOOHHH MMMAAHHHH GGGAAAWWWDDD. So amazing! They are the chicharrones of the sea! Just get them, you will not regret it. I had the Boss Bowl. It was so many flavors packed in one little bowl. Had the perfect amount of spice. My son had the spicy bowl which had jalapeños and sriracha. If you like spice, this is the perfect bowl for you. My wife's seared tuna bowl was almost as expected. She normally plays it safe, and I would consider this a safe option. She was expecting nigiri style slices of tuna but it was served as little cubes or nuggets. We both felt they were lightly cooked rather than seared but were still tasty. The customization options are super fun, and they have great suggested bowl combos if, like me, you get decision paralysis with all those options and need direction- Hawaiian bowl is a favorite! Picked up a spicy bowl today, and it was amazing. Everything was very fresh, and all the flavors combined very well. I took the regular bowl, but they also offer large Abd ultimate sizes. Those who fear fish shouldn't worry because one of the protein options is popcorn chicken. Looking forward to a return visit, hopefully at a less busy time because parking can be tricky. read more

Update: alright round 2 was great. Fast friendly service, fresh food, clean restaurant. We love this place! Awesome little place. We didn't know what to expect going in but we were happy after we ate. It's kinda like a chipotle but for Poke and it's put in a pretty cool atmosphere with a bar. The patio is pretty cool with the bar having seats out there. The food itself was very delicious, all the ingredients seemed fresh and the preparation line was fast and efficient. A couple critiques would be the cleanliness, the tipping, and the parking lot. Every available table in the restaurant was dirty so we resorted to cleaning one ourselves. Which brings me to my next point. Why am I tipping 18% when I have to clean my own table, get my own drinks, and I never see another employee again after I pay? Am I just tipping for them preparing my food? I'm not sure but we were confused and this is why I am generally disappointed at places where you tip before you eat. Lastly the parking lot is hilariously small and tight. It was completely packed when we went to eat and more businesses are set to open in the complex. Someone planned pretty poorly. Long story short. The food was amazing, the atmosphere cool, and everything else... well, it was tolerable. I'd only been to the Poki Poki on Central; that one is okay, but I went to the Wyoming location for the first time and it was a completely different experience!! It's much bigger and the vibe is way cooler (surprisingly!). I'm also SUPER stoked that their crab salad AND seaweed salad are both gluten-free!!!!! (sampled a few of the sangria options, and found them tasty but not what i want during a work lunch. ) Despite the place only beong open 2 days a late lunch wednesday was pretty crowded, but the staff was well trained and they got it done pretty quickly. and will probably only get better as time goes on and as people get more familiar with the menu. As usual the owner greeted me by name seconds after entering (despite there bing quite a line and crowd and chaos. its a nice ego boost even though i sometimes get a little embarrassed. But it goes to show he really cares for what he does. which is a huge plus, and it shows! read more

You can pretty much have it all here! The clever, forward-thinking concept of this entire establishment provides well-designed, separate spaces for a variety of gatherings, whether a quiet meeting with friends in the coffee section, a cheering section for the game in the bar, or a casual meal with good friends and comfortable conversation. The Poki bowls are an amazing combination of fresh seafood, imaginative, international flavors, and made to be as spicy as you like. Can't get enough! Be prepared for a line at peak meal times, but the wait for your tailor-made meal is totally worth it. They keep making changes that only make the experience better, and I think that this kind of free-flowing, all-inclusive-type environment is the wave of the future. I've never been here when it's packed to the point where service is even a little slow. I love the new taproom. I'm cautious about eating seafood in places that are far from the ocean, but wow, the fish tacos here are amazing! The fish is plantain crusted and has such a nice, fresh flavor. The pickled cabbage is a great addition too. Overall, a great combination of flavors. They were willing to accommodate my request to mix it up and instead of having the tacos tradition style on tortilla, I had it in a bowl on a bed of lettuce and had the avocado sauce which I a milder option than some of the other sauces. Another person in my group had them also but with tortillas and really like how they sandwiched cheese between the tortillas of the carnitas taco. But also loved the flavor of the fish tacos. The empanada has a lot of cheese and less meat but still was excellent. Definitely going to be back here for more! read more

Who would have thunk that you could throw pineapple, seaweed salad, and guacomole in the same bowl and make it FABULOUS? I love all three things separate...but together? WOW! Have been wanting to try Poki for a while and the Hawaiian Bowl caught my eye on the menu board, as I'm a sucker for pineapple. So it was Hawaiian Bowl with Shrimp. Honestly, I didn't even look at the other ingredients it normally came with. Throwing caution to the wind, when the food artist (and I mean it) asked me if I wanted everything that normally came on it, of course I said YES. Then the next surprise was the pickled ginger and the crab salad. OMG, I could have eaten just a bowl with seaweed salad, crab salad and pickled ginger. Every ingredient that mingled in my bowl was super-fresh, delicately flavored and just plain divine. And when you leave Poki, you don't feel like you just ate a 5-lb brick. Fresh, healthy, and super-delicious don't always to together, but here it does! Then I stopped at the new sister business next door, Sweet Cup, for a Boba Tea. I've eaten a lot of take out during quarantine and I've had a lot of mediocre meals, I've been burned by fish places in Abq before so I avoided this place for a while and I really regret it. The bowls are insanely good and the tacos are pretty tasty as well. I've been to Poki Poki a few times now. My opinion has only gotten better and better. Let me start by saying if you enjoy fish tacos, this is my top 2 for fish tacos. No doubt! The environment is very contemporary and open, in that they are now opened into the other half of the brewery and have an upstairs seating. Between the bar inside the restaurant and the brewery next door there is plenty of different brews/wines/drinks etc. I've gotten a bowl every time and learned that it's easier to start by ordering one of their pre chosen bowls on the menu to see what you like. I now feel comfortable/enjoy customizing my own. I'm a big seafood eater but my GF is not. The first time we went the only alternative was a popcorn chicken. They now have real chicken on the menu and she enjoyed her meal much more the last few times since the new chicken was added. I have yet to try any of the other tacos but plan to next visit. Definitely a unique take in our market and I hope more places like it open up. You must try this place at least once. read more

It was my first time at Poki Pok at this location. The food was good, but it was not what I expected. This location in particular felt a bit clustered. It was a small area, and it just felt enclosed in there. I Think that if they had more of an open space then the whole experience would be different. I did enjoy the food, It was good, but I just didn't really feel that it was as fresh as I would like it be especially for RAW FISH. The service was good and the food was out quick, it's sorta like subway you walk down the line telling the server what add on's you want. I just wish the place was a little less clustered and the presentation of the food a bit more appealing. read more

I loved my Pork bowl, wife and daughter loved their bowls too. Restaurant dot com folks, beware, they are not honoring the $15 certificate at this time Dec. 2019. The manager chalked it up to Restaurant scamming folks offering unauthorized deals. The manager said many many customers have come in with the Restaurant dot com certificates as well. I've found Restaurant dot com to be faithful in their dealings. I love using these certificates because they motivate me to get out of the house & I apply what is saved on the ticket to the Tip for Service. I'll now have to exchange my Poki Poki certificates to several other cafes my family and I love dining in. read more
