My large Poke bowl from Pokeland, San Diego Ca
    Art K.

Aloha guys and gals! I decided to place a delivery order at Pokeland restaurant. I wanted to try their Poke bowl and was glad I did. I requested a base of brown rice and salad, added ahi tuna, coconut lemongrass salmon, shrimp, edamame, mango, pineapple, ginger, green onions, seaweed salad, furakake and sesame seeds. All of the ingredients were fresh and the citrus ponzu elevated the fish and shrimp giving it a tangy, refreshing flavor. The pineapple was added to sweeten the mix and let me tell you, I enjoyed every bite. I will definitely plan a future visit to Pokeland in person. Their online menu looked interesting and I saw some dishes I'd love to try. Until then keep those "onolicious" bowls coming Pokeland!

We have been coming here quite awhile for poke, as they give generous portions and the prices are decent. It's usually not very busy (it's located inside a shopping area), it's very clean and there is ample seating inside. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. I usually build my own poke bowl with 1/2 rice and 1/2 salad as a base, salmon and tuna (the small size is enough for me), and almost all the toppings; they pile on all the rice, fish and toppings to an impressive height. My husband's favorite is Triple Threat, it has 3 kinds of tuna and the seared tuna is pretty good. Once in awhile it seems like the fish isn't as fresh as it could be (and a bit flavorless), but otherwise the food is usually very tasty (they also have a variety of sauces). We will definitely keep coming back here for poke!

This has been my go-to Poke place for what feels like almost a decade. I still go to other Poke places in San Diego, but this shop always does it for me, especially with portion size, price, freshness of the fish, and amount of toppings. For $15.99, I pick three proteins, typically tuna and salmon. They load the bowl up high and it's such a filling portion. Other establishments give less for more. Freshness of the fish is always good. Service is okay, you pick and choose what you want as they make it for you. Service is hardly exceptional or stands out, but for the food I get, I don't mind.

The number of poke shops that have sprung up around SD County has been incalculable. Pokeland was one of the earlier arrivals to the scene when it took over one of the internal suites in the Village at Mira Mesa. Judging from the foot traffic at the neighboring vendors in this foodie corridor, it was not one of the busier places especially when there's an AYCE sushi business on the front corner. I had finished visiting a boba tea shop across the way when I decided to pop in and support Pokeland as the only customer at the time. There were around half a dozen tables for seating in a well-kept dining room. The left menu screen featured five signature poke bowls. The center and right screens listed the bowl sizes and components for building your own poke bowl. A small bowl (two protein scoops) cost $13.99, a regular bowl (three protein scoops) cost $15.99, and a large bowl (five protein scoops) cost $18.99. The prices seemed fair considering some spots charge well over $20 for their large bowls. I picked the Tsunami which was one of the signature bowls. The preset ingredients included three types of tuna... regular ahi, seared tuna, and albacore. White rice, imitation crab, avocado, green onion, furikake, seaweed salad, sesame seeds, yum yum sauce, and eel sauce made up the rest of the contents. The seared tuna stood out because of the smokey flavor. The rest was pretty standard but was filling for a regular size bowl.

This is probably my favorite poke shop in SD because they give SO much food. Toppings, fish, rice. When I ordered the small, they topped on so much of everything I asked for that the height of the final product was almost twice that of the bowl. The photo is from after everything was squashed by the lid. Pokeland has become my go-to poke place.

It is my first actual experience for building my own poke bowel and luckily it was at @pokelandsd, i loved how generous they are and the combination of all the ingredients that they choose is at its perfection. I wish i had a strong stomach to have all these 4 bowels for me only

Built my own poke bowl. Forgot to take a photo before digging in.

I decided to try poke for the first time here and it was amazing! I was served by a nice young lady who was very patient and walked me through the entire process. The dining area was clean but there is some paint peeling off of the walls. Some decor would definitely go a long way, but the food and service earned it five stars. I would definitely come back

I had $50 in expiring GrubHub money so I ordered $50 worth of poke bowl from here as takeout...Let's just say that even though free food usually tastes more delicious, that was not the case at all for the poke bowls we got. We actually threw them away without finishing, and we are NOT a household that throws away food. We ordered 3 regular bowls: -Salmon/salmon/spicy tuna with garlic ponzu and white rice -Salmon/salmon/spicy tuna with pokeland sauce and white rice -Seared tuna/scallop/shrimp with pokeland sauce and white rice The spicy tuna was this mix of unappetizing mashed fish. The salmon, seared tuna and scallop were flavorless. I think theoretically the dish could have been saved by the sauces but we could not taste any garlic ponzu or pokeland sauce in any of the bowls. Maybe the sauces were forgotten, and we are unfairly judging the bowls. But the dishes we got were basically just flavorless fish with flavorless rice. The only thing that earned this place its stars was ambiance (very clean restaurant in a convenient location that has tons of free parking) and very friendly/professional service from the cashier.

I got a regular poke bowl with salmon, tuna, and scallops. The poke tasted good, but they were cut into larger than normal chunks. The cucumber was also cut into large slices, so it wasn't as pleasant to eat. The bowl was also drenched with mayo, it was definitely too much. The presentation also just looked thrown onto the bowl. They have a good amount of seating inside and the service was good as well. I don't think I would come back to this place.

They are very generous with their serving size. I got a large bowl and it was probably three lbs! Their fish was okay, nothing to write home about. They kind of drown the whole thing in sauce. It should be less and the customer can ask for more. I ate at some tables outside the restaurant. It was a nice mild night out in San Diego and the warm lighting from the lights were very calming.

With the Aloha Spirit on my mind lately, Leilani's Cafe had caught my attention. I have no idea which spirit may have been looking out, but we pulled right up to an open street parking spot nearly in front of the place. The blessings didn't end there. There was no line to order when I walked in & we found an open table immediately. But that changed shortly after my order was in. It got super busy with a line out the door to order. I had ordered the Hilo Loco Moco & Spam Musubi Leilani's Style. My fiancée got the French Toast. The food didn't take too long, as I was just ahead of the kitchen rush. It was all quite yummy & decent portion sizes. Trying some of my fiancée's French Toast, that ended up being the most interesting dish to me. I've never had that made with sweet Hawaiian bread before. & now I'm convinced that's the best way to make French Toast. So, on a day when Hawaii happened to be on my mind, Leilani's Cafe was a nice taste of the islands. Undoubtedly cheaper & more convenient than the 2,610 miles flight out to Honolulu. Though that is certainly a trip worth taking...

Let's start with the basics: our server, Kennedy, was completely checked out. Zero urgency, zero professionalism, and an obvious "I don't care" attitude the entire time. But bad service ended up being the least of our concerns. The food was flat out unsafe. My garlic shrimp came out with the digestive tract still in it and yes, not cleaned at all. When I brought it up, Kennedy grabbed a manager who didn't even bother to introduce herself. Her response? This has "happened multiple times before" and ownership is aware and chooses to keep it that way. She actually said the cooks "don't have to clean the shrimp." Let that sink in. So this isn't a mistake, it's a standard. Then it got worse. My wife's chicken katsu was RAW in the center. Not undercooked but raw. Pink, unsafe, completely inedible. At that point, we were done. Serving raw chicken is not a small oversight, it's a serious health risk. Meanwhile, both the manager and Kennedy were more focused on watching Coachella than doing their jobs. Kennedy was openly yelling things like "Oh shit!" about performers while ignoring tables and with children around. Completely unprofessional and honestly embarrassing to watch. So to recap: * Uncleaned shrimp being knowingly served * Raw chicken making it to the table * Burnt beef * Staff that couldn't care less * Management admitting they're aware and doing nothing This isn't just bad service, this is negligence. Ownership should be ashamed, and this place seriously needs to be inspected by the health department before someone gets sick. Do not risk your money or your health eating here!
