    Aloha Mix

It's always nice to visit places that serve island food. We spotted this place on Instagram and thought to drive out and check this place out. Casual atmosphere with a bar. They have a big menu providing all sorts of different meals. I went for the Aloha plate that had chicken katsu, beef teriyaki and short ribs. White Rice & Mac salad came with every dish. We also ordered the garlic shrimp plate and malasadas. The beef teriyaki was soft and flavorful, the garlic shrimp was good but would be better if the shrimp were larger. Hands down if I were to come back, I would go straight to ordering the short ribs. That was the best from what I tasted. The malasadas were also a favorite. Warning: these are not made like the ones on the islands. They are made the way I make them at home using biscuit dough, but that's how I like them. Service was good. Pretty lowkey and friendly.

Happily surprised by this place . I was hesitant to come here because it's alittle on the pricey side but the portions and the food quality is worth it . Everything tasted perfect and was way better than other Hawaiian local places . The teriyaki is such a sweet and salty balance the the thin beef and chicken was my favorite . I thought the beef rib was alittle weird tasting and could have been cooked alittle more . The employee taking my order was friendly . Would definitely recommend. For reference I shared the aloha plate with my daughter and there was still leftovers . My husband couldn't finish his .

Kalbi bitch! With a side Katsu foo!

The portions were large. The kalbi was where it be. I loved every bit of it. They gave me big pieces in my order. Then I ordered a side of Katsu toogoo. I meant, togo. There was plenty of room and I loved that they had a full bar inside. I've never seen this place super busy so it's been good to me. It's a good place to take a date. And that bish better order more than a salad and a water. This place gets it. So loved by the locals.

I was in the area and Yelp showed good reviews of this place so I stopped by for lunch. It has a fun atmosphere with paintings on the walls and a separate tiki bar area. The staff also extended a warm getting as soon as I stepped in. I definitely appreciate the menu, filled with all the things I enjoy and the portion sizes are very generous. Considering I got a mini plate, it seemed more like a large plate and had some leftovers to take home. For the price, it was quite a lot of food and satisfied my comfort food craving. Lunch today included kalua pig with cabbage and loco moco (both mini plates). I thoroughly enjoyed the mac salad, the kalua pig was good but a bit on the salty side, and loco moco was solid and the gravy had a little kick to it. Overall, very good from the service to the food.

Recommended by my friend Marvelousmuncher and it was bomb! Got the aloha mix and it was very filling, worth every bit of $21.75 I lived in Hawaii and this beats out other Hawaiian spots near me. Guys were super nice and helpful! To top it off, they were playing classic songs by Ekolu, Kolohe Kai, Sammy J, and even some new Kanaka Fyah I'll definitely back to try other things!

I came here for lunch and would definitely come here again. The downside is that inside there is no AC and it was a very hot day! But they had fans inside. The food was soooo good! And huge portions! I took the rest home and had it for lunch the next day! Chicken was tender and flavorful, and Mac was just right. I wish they gave you more of the Mac. I think I paid $18 for the meal could feel 2 people. Service was great the girl at the front asked if I wanted extra teriyaki sauce which she had nice and cold and ready to go!

Stopped in on a Thursday afternoon for a spam musubi and left knowing that I will continue to support this establishment. A 2 for 1 deal is available on the UberEats app as well.

Came here early October because I was working in the area and saw this place was recently opened. Went in with zero expectations but left feeling good lol. Customer service was on point. Greeted as I enter the business. Asked for recommendations and they said some of their best sellers. I always like me some Katsu chicken and went with the plate. Did not disappoint. Food was fresh, the chicken was sizzling, the rice was on point. Love the breaded chicken, it was crispy and the chicken was tender. Place looked clean and there were a good amount of people dining in and taking out. Excellent first impression. Planning on coming back with family

My daughter came into town and we decided on Hawaiian BBQ for dinner. I've tried a few BBQ places around San Diego and I've only had one so far I liked and that one was at the Hillcrest Farmers Market and that's, Island Life Foods. Hillcrest is a bit out of the way and parking is a nightmare on Sundays so I wanted to find an actual sit down or take out place with plenty of parking. So glad we tried this place. The place looked clean and spacey with plenty of bench type seating mixed with chairs. It was decorated with the Hawaiian flare you would expect. The cooler was stocked with Hawaiian drinks. Off to the side they had what looked like a bar. I don't think it's a functioning bar but it was decorated like a tiki bar. We were greeted right away which is always a win for me. Very nice young lady asked for our order and was accommodating with our questions I got the Aloha mix which is a mix of chicken, beef and pork chop. The meats all tasted good. They all did have a sticky sweet caramelized sauce on them. The only one I didn't really care for was the pork chop because it was too well done. It was a bit stiff and dry. The rest of the dish was delicious. I love the cabbage at the bottom of the meat and the Mac salad was also creamy and the pasta done right. I hate mushy pasta. The rice was also done right, sticky and cooked through. My grandson got the katsu chicken kids plate and his chicken was super crispy and it came with a side of crinkle fries. I also ordered the Spam Musubi . The Spam browned and served tightly on a bed of sticky rice and wrapped in the seaweed wrapper. I loved it. My daughter also loved her mixed plate of Katsu and bbq beef. I will definitely come back to explore more things on their menu. Like the desserts looked good. I saw they had malasadas and shaved ice and more.

Stopped by on the way back from the range in east county and was surprised to find a Hawaiian spot in the area. Ordered the Katsu mix and it was a bulk season portion plate. It came with teriyaki ribs, teriyaki beef, chicken katsu, 2 scoops of rice and macaroni salad. The beef and ribs had great teriyaki flavor and wasn't too salty, meat was soft and easy to tear through. The katsu was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and the macaroni salad was perfect, not too sour from too much vinegar or pungent from too much mustard. Staff were friendly and food came out quick. Plenty of parking in the lot. Definitely coming back to the try rest of the menu.

Was craving Hawaiian food and thought I'd check out this place nearby. Ordered the garlic shrimp plate the first time around. Ono ( delicious) garlic shrimp accompanied by two scoops of white rice and macaroni salad. I actually like the garlic shrimp. The Mac salad was ok kind of bland. Returned a week later to let my husband try it out and he ordered the Teriyaki Beef, chicken and short rib plate . We also ordered the breaded fish plate to explore our options. Well... kinda disappointed. The teriyaki beef place was ok. It's suppose to be the most popular on the menu. The sauces seemed off. The breaded fish was ok as well. I'm wondering if it was cause we showed up later in the evening. Who knows. Anyway, at least I enjoyed the garlic shrimp.

The menu is long and varied. There is definitely something for everyone here. We ordered a decaf cappuccino to start. Warning, unless you specify a regular size they will bring you the large, 16 ounce by default. I would prefer if they asked what size we wanted first. We ordered the shakshuka, the veggie georgian cheese pie and the soufflé pancake. The pancake takes 20-30 minutes and cones with a bit of whip cream some fruit and syrup. Overall the shakshuka and the pie were very good. The soufflé pancake was a bit of a let down. Let's just say I've had better Japanese soufflé pancakes elsewhere. I would likely go back and try some of their other dishes.

Im not a coffee person but I love their coffee…read more I have tried this coffee shop a handful of times and each time Ive had different drinks. Their Holiday Earl grey latte (chef's kiss), Dirty Chai, pistachio cold foam Blondie, Matcha, and their Spanish Latte. Not a single one of these drinks were too strong or too sweet. The perfect coffee for someone who typically goes for your basic flavored cold iced tea at Starbucks; here I want coffee. Their dessert display makes walking away without an accompanying pastery so difficult. Their cookies, and personal pies are amazing. I have yet to try their food but their selection is very appealing and I will surely be back to try something out. They are a fairly busy shop and their service is often times a little slow paced; something to be mindful of when visiting.

We had to go get them ourselves. The reasoning was they were warming them Up. Hmm they tasted stale. But what bothered me the most is that they wipe down the tables with lemon pledge. There was dried food stuck on our table from previous customers they sprayed lemon pledge on it 3 times to get the sticky dried gunk off. Meanwhile they were smearing it across the table. Definitely not cleaning the table for us. A little more customer care and a real cleaning process would go a long ways to getting 5 stars from me.

And shout out to the girl around my age, she was restocking everything almost constantly! She was keeping all the food fresh and flowing!!!! She had on some pretty lashes and she was strong as hell, carrying oyster plates and fruit plates. She saw me loitering by the fruits since I was disappointed that there wasn't any more pineapple and immediately let me know she would grab some more for me. She actually went above and beyond. I wish I got her name! Food: They used to have king/snow crab legs and prime rib, but now it's just dry steak. I could barely choke it down with their ajus. I was actually so excited to try the lamb but it was insanely gamey and almost ruined my appetite. It was so dry and it was like powder on my tongue. I really regret starting my meal off with it. Their prime rib used to be sooo juicy. I was shocked. The lobster, crab, and shrimp cocktail was delicious and fit my palate very well. My family loved their oysters. Plate after plate after plate of oysters and lobster... that's how you do it! The lobster has 2 kinds, fried and grilled. The grilled was surprisingly way more salty than the fried and slightly more rubbery. After 2, I went straight for the fried ones. Crispy, more tender and juicy, and it was like they had infinite lobsters. Each one is cut in half. The shrimp was huge and plump and the crab was pretty good. I tried a few of their side items like the peppers and potatoes, not bad, but not much else. I was there to get my money's worth. The rest of the stuff wasn't restocked as much, like the lumpia, broccoli beef, but i DO WISH I TRIED OUT THE CHILAQUILES BAR. But that's meant to fill you up on the cheap stuff. My mom tried the siete mares but she said it was pretty gross. Super salty, no other flavors. It changed locations and I really prefer the old one more. It was definitely bigger. It is very pretty though, overlooking the hills with ample bar seating. It can get a little packed but nothing crazy. If you go during the morning, you get a better deal. It's definitely worth a mini road trip if you reeeeally like your oysters and lobsters.
