My husband and I ate here twice during our visit to Green Bay, mainly because we were staying in the Hotel Northland - and were so happy we did, both times! The first night, we bellied up to the bar around 10PM (after our flight from Denver, a 45-minute uber from Appleton, and checking in) and were happy to see the kitchen was still open! The sweet bartender took our order and within about 10 minutes are ooey gooey cheese curds showed up! Let's just say, this plate was overflowing with deliciously fried cheese that totally hit the spot to start us off! I opted for the salmon sandwich while my husband decided on the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich - both came out quickly, were pretty in presentation and absolutely delicious! Portions are HUGE and everything is made in house - including the fries and chips! YUM! On our second visit, the group and I ordered a variety of options - the burger on special for me - which was their take on a mushroom Swiss burger, loaded with arugula and drippy aoli - which was so good! Service is helpful and quick, menu has a variety of options, portions are huge, and pricing is on point. If back at this hotel, I'd easily eat here again! read more

Restaurant at the Northland hotel with a ton of seating and a huge bar! The staff were very friendly and the service was quick. The pricing was very average for the food menu and the wine/beer/alcohol list. The food was good but nothing to write home about. I ordered the chicken club and there was barely any chicken on it. The Venison chili, however, was very good. Probably wouldn't go again but not a bad spot if you're staying at the hotel. read more

My husband and I ate here two days in a row while staying at the Hotel Northland. It is on the bottom floor of the hotel. The food was amazing. The first night, I had the smash burger, which was really incredible. It was also huge. We were wishing we had shared a burger. He also got a burger, which he said was very good. I had the cranberry spritzer with dinner. Yum! The second night, I got the Korean sliders. The meat was kind of fatty, but it had good flavor. I also got the Brussels sprouts. Very good! My husband also loved what he got. On the second night, I got a Wisconsin way brandy old fashioned. I'll be thinking about that delicious drink for a very long time. :-) No place better to get an old fashioned than Wisconsin! Would definitely go back to this place. I haven't been here since shortly after they opened. I remember it having a fresh menu and attentive staff. Well, not so much any more. Stopped by for lunch and waited at the hostess stand for about 4 minutes before someone said hello and they'd be over. While standing there I noticed the chalk written beer menu behind the bar was kept up-to-date by simply crossing off the options that were out of stock. To me this sort of thing seems lazy and should have tipped me off. We received our drinks shortly after ordering them (pro). The menu was pretty boring... Caesar salad, cheese curds, steak with fries and these flat breads that did not even look enticing on the tablet menu. After ordering, we waited and waited and waited for our meals. Eventually the waiter delivered my clam chowder which was good as it was not thick and goopy but had good chunks of potato and carrots. While there may or may not have been clams in the chowder it was served with some great homemade style crackers. Once the soup dishes were placed on the table, despite being empty, they never left. Again we had to wait and wait for the rest of our meals. I had ordered the Caesar salad with chicken - the chicken was cooked well and was a good size but there wasn't much of a salad and 3 silly cherry tomatoes. My companions each ordered cheeseburgers that were dry, slider sized (please note the bun to burger ratio) definitely not warm, and served with cold fries. We saw the waiter one last time but only after I flagged him down to order another watery drink. Thankfully there was a waitress around (who, unfortunately said a couple times that they were new) but at least she brought ketchup & our check after we had waited and waited for those. Like the soup dishes, our empty glasses were never cleared. Trust me, customers do not enjoy their experience if they are made to sit amongst dirty dishes! I stopped here for a drink because it's in the Hotel Northland just for the experience because I was staying at the hotel. The place is a sports bar that served food and is nice looking for a sports bar, a fancy sports bar. They have nice booths, tables and bar with plenty of TVs. About 16 taps were at the padded bar with nice hi chairs. The woman bartender had a hard time making my Gin Rickey because she walked away a couple times while making it, I think they had no lime juice because she eventually came back with a fresh lime and hand squeezed it into my cocktail. The woman bartender didn't go out of her way to talk to anyone even though the place was mostly empty, I like a bartender who goes around talking to people. read more

We checked into hotel where this place is on the ground floor. I called, 3X, got recording that phone had tech difficulties. No big, I go down to order takeout to bring up to room. Very nice bartender answers my menu questions, and I ask about a beer while I wait. He lets me sample what he thinks is a good local IPA-ish beer, I didnt, he gave me sample of a different one and it was great. Nice guy, pleasant bar experience. I ordered "pastrami poutine" (french fries with fried cheese curds and brown gravy...a northern classic I wanted to try up here) and wife had Caesar salad with grilled chicken breast. We were both famished. She liked her salad, even tho it was on dry side, and I liked my poutine. BUT....my dish looked nothing like what is pictured on their website menu: there may have been 2 tablespoons of very finely chopped pastrami, the "fried cheese curds" were nothing more than melted chunks of regular cheese, not breaded, not deep-fried, just plain old cheddar that had been microwaved to partial melting, and there were no sliced green onions on top. It really wasnt a bad meal for a hotel bar but I hate being deceived by descriptions and pictures. read more

Hands down the best cheese curds I have ever had. They were super crispy and had the perfect amount of cheese. Our server Eric was amazing. He gave us a lot of recommendations of what to do before the game. He also was kind enough to let me taste test the beers to see which ones I liked. He was very nice and super helpful. The Pastrami Reuben sandwich was by far a 5/5. It was nice and crispy and very tasty. Also the chips with the blue cheese was out of this world. We got this as an appetizer and it came with homemade blue cheese dip. This hidden gem has great food, service and atmosphere! read more

This place is really classic and old school inside. They have lots of great cocktails on the menu. Chicken flatbread is extremely flavorful. The Brussels sprouts appetizer is my favorite, along with the devilish eggs. Duck salad and soba noodles are also two of my favorites. The service can be hit or miss here. Since COVID they have everything wrapped up with plastic wrap for safety, which is nice. They have a nice beer selection. First time in Green Bay and staying at Hotel Northland. It's nice to have a casual option in the hotel after a long travel day. The menu is electronic, like an iPad, takes a little bit to get used to but easy once you're in. The menu is diverse but not overwhelming with a mixture of salads, soups, burgers, sandwiches, and I'd say upscale bar food. I had the venison chili and the chopped salad. The chili was fantastic, has a little kick to it which I love! Nice hearty chunks of meat, tomatoes and black beans. The chop salad has lots of unique ingredients but the combo works, it was delicious as well. Service was quick and friendly. I'm here for a week and I'll likely be back! read more

We were staying at Hotel Northland and decided to stay in for dinner. We placed an order at Poke the Bear for several items and overall the food was just ok. We tried the following: chicken flatbread, cheese curds, venison soup, devilish eggs, rueben sandwich with GF bread, chopped salad & a burger. I also got a low old fashioned drink. The drink was phenomenal & I would definitely return for drinks. However, the food left much to be desired. My son has the burger and actually said McDonalds burgers are better. Sad!!! They forgot the cheese and served all toppings on the side. In fact, everything was "on the side" as all components of the meal came in tons of small boxes. For the steep price of $90, plus tip, we did not feel the meal was worth the price. read more

This place is a little hidden gem in Green Bay that is worth a visit. The food here is prepared expertly, and all the chefs are skillful and creative. Also, the great food offerings are complimented by a wonderful selection of unique cocktails and beverages. The only negative thing I will mention about Poke The Bear is that the service is hit or miss. DISAPPOINTED I made reservations based on previous Yelp reviews. Maybe today was an off day but UGH, the disappointment started from the minute we arrived. Although we had reservations the waiter tells me that there are no tables available in the main dining area and we could choose from either a booth or high-top in the bar. It's very loud in the bar area and that was not the ambiance I wanted for dinner. Our waiter was very nice and knowledgeable. We placed drink and appetizer orders; cheese curds and onion rings. Very good! I recommend the tomato aioli....yummy!! I ordered the steak frittes entree, my husband ordered the build your own burger and the couple we were dining with ordered the salmon entree and the steak frittes. Our wait for entrees was not long and we spent the time shouting over the noise so we could hear each other speaking. When the entrees arrived, they were cold we sent three of the plates back. The risotto and chickpeas in the salmon entree were ice cold and both steaks were cold. Upon return of our plates, it was another disappointment. The fries and greenbeans on the steak plates were so overheated the fries were hard. Gross. The risotto on the salmon plate was still cold in some spots (weird) and the chickpeas were still cold. We wanted something to eat but couldn't decide so we ordered 4 starters to share. Mac and cheese, wings, venison nachos and veggie flatbread. Unfortunately nothing knocked our socks off. The kids seemed pleased with the Mac and cheese - it was very creamy. Personally I just think everything could've packed a little more punch, more flavor. Went here for a late lunch on St. Patrick's Day. They have very good Covid precautions in place. Each place setting is wrapped in a napkin and then wrapped with clear plastic wrap. Each water comes with a protective lid on it. The staff distance themselves when coming to the table and were each wearing a mask. For appetizers we had cheese curds, Chicken flatbread, and cheeseburger eggrolls. Each item was tasty and prepared well. Our main items included sweet beet salad, poke the bear chopped salad, and an order of mac & cheese. Everyone was happy with their food. I would gladly come back here. read more

Beautiful location obviously. I have been here about a half dozen times meeting my wife for lunch during the work week or for business meetings. I have enjoyed everything on the menu so far, but it is not a very big menu. I feel the Reuben is one of the better examples in the area. The cheese curds are also quite good. As far as service I have found it to be on par with pretty much every restaurant at the moment: not great. Every restaurant has a "help wanted" sign in the window and it shows. There's a labor shortage, so I have lowered my expectations in this area. I also give some leeway for newer restaurants (and usually avoid any new restaurant for at least 6 months). Drinks are a bit on the expensive side, but they have some nice signature cocktails. read more

May 29th, 2020 my mom and I chose to have lunch at Poke the Bear. We each enjoyed a bourbon cocktail and we each had the Reuben from the menu. WOW! One of the yummiest Reubens I've ever had. The coleslaw was different, spicy, but I love spice! The atmosphere is nice, very modern yet welcoming. I couldn't wait to go back..... Sunday June 14, my boyfriend and I also chose to eat at Poke The Bear. Being that it was a Sunday and it's National Bourbon Day we were looking forward to enjoying a handcrafted cocktail and treating ourselves to some Pappy Van Winkle. We chose our table and the waitress never asked us if we wanted a cocktail, gave us a cocktail menu or told us if they had any specials. How disappointing! She brought us water and then we ordered our food. Devilish Eggs, Cheese Curds and Mac & Cheese. I had bacon added to the Mac & Cheese, but it added a funny flavor as the bacon was candied so it added a sweetness to the Mac & Cheese. Eh. The Cheese curds & Devilish eggs were OK, but certainly nothing to rant and rave about. My Mac & Cheese was severely lacking cheese and the flavor was bland. Salt and pepper would've been a nice addition but we didn't have any at the table. This last visit wasn't nearly as great as my first and I'm in no hurry to go back after todays meal. read more

I ordered off of a third-party app and had ordered the salmon. the total cost was $22 for the salmon and it came to a total of $32. I'm not one to complain about price but I do expect the food to live up to par. The salmon came to me pitiful looking, which I understand rotates during delivery but the fact that it was so bland tasting- was very disappointing.
