I thought most Poke places in San Diego are largely the same. For the most part, they are. Typically the same proteins, depending on the spot, half of them are at least $1 extra to add. Which is kinda shady. They have rice or rice noodles. Then you've got all the typical proteins. Spicy tuna, crab, octopus, the usual. The usual veggies, plus a boatload of crispy toppings and sauces. My typical order comes out to: Rice noodles, ahi tuna, octopus, with seaweed salad, cucumber, beets, topped with fried onions, fried garlic, golden miso, fire shoyu. It's basic. But damn, for $16 you get a lot of food. Almost enough that I cannot finish. I definitely get better food here, for cheaper than I would next door at Five Guys. It's fast, affordable (in comparison) and you get a good amount of chow. I dig it. read more

This is the worst worst poke bowl ever. I came in at 6:45PM and all the chairs were already stacked up and the floor was reek of cleaning products. I wanted to get the power mix salad and had to ask the lady to remove it because the salad was wilted. Unlike other places, they don't mix the proteins together with the sauces, sauces were drizzled on top and not mix in. All the topping I wanted are a $1 charge- seaweed, mango/pineapple mix, imitation crab so I got no toppings. Its so overly priced, why? Because it's at the beach? Its definitely not a destination beach for this price and quality. STAY AWAY It's my fault for not doing the research properly. I highly recommend Blue Poke instead, this place is a joke read more

I usually get the large bowl (4 scoop) which is $18.95 - I would say that's within expectations for a poke bowl nowadays. I would rate this place as average in quality of fish and toppings but I think the fish portions are fair. I havent gotten any other items but they have unique stuff like a norrito and poke-nini (which sounds questionable lol). But they also have weekly specials which are a nice extra! 5 stars in every category all around. Establishment is clean and well cared for. Food is fresh and delicious. Vibes are immaculate. Customer service is the best here out of all the neighboring restaurants. I've had a gnawing and unfaltering craving for a sushi burrito for a hot minute. Few poke places do that, and even fewer do it well. I hit the jackpot at Poke 123. Zack and Nora were both incredibly kind, personable, and knowledgable about the menu. Their uplifting demeanor is so appreciated, and really stands out in a post-pandemic world where most customer service these days is lackluster. As per the picture this norrito was beautifully crafted, perfectly wrapped, and impressively fit all the contents inside. The spicy mayo sauce is fantastic, too. Get extra. I tried a regular bowl with noodles. The noodles are a nice change from the traditional rice here. However, the noodles and some of the other items could have been served with more care, because there was quite a puddle of liquid at the bottom of the bowl at one point. Also, the wasabi mayo dressing was a bit overwhelming for me, even though I do like wasabi. I take responsibility for that, but word to the wise. Also, the venue was definitely on the cold side, especially for an overcast evening in early spring. I looked for an email to reach out to but the one I found didn't receive my email, not sure if I was blocked or what happened. I got a terrible case of food poisoning after visiting this location on Saturday. I don't normally write reviews like this but I am genuinely very disappointed, especially after paying almost 20 dollars to get violently ill and throwing up all of yesterday morning. I am a big fan of Poke 123, even after the price increase I have still been a faithful customer, but after this past experience I will not be going here anymore. I don't know why I waited 1.5 years to try this place - absolutely fantastic! As someone who lived four years in Hawaii and ordered poke bowls religiously from Foodland, I can confidently say this spot is a pretty good . The fish here is incredibly fresh, and the sauces are perfectly balanced - and they put just the right amount without drowning everything. We also tried the poke panini, which was beautifully composed and just as tasty. Pro tip: Ask about the sauces and match them to your tastes. If you're new to poke, that little bit of homework pays off big time. I saw a review complaining about the rice - but honestly, I think it's exactly what poke needs. It's good-quality, fluffy rice that supports the fish rather than trying to steal the show. Don't come expecting hibachi fried rice or cilantro rice - this is classic, well prepared sushi rice. Bonus fun fact: While stuffing my Instacart delivery, I Googled the owner and learned he's a Veteran, who is also a 9/11 Pentagon survivor (while active duty), who went on to help wounded warriors/other survivors after he got out of the military. This is disappointing. I ordered from here through a delivery app. This is not the delivery apps error. I received a bowl, which I I felt was on the lighter side. No biggie. Till I open it and found little to no rice and the extra items I ordered, and paid for, were so scarce. This is the second time this has happened. If they're running low on inventory, let the customer know. I was craving a poke bowl and found this place. Even though it is a bit pricey it is definitely worth it. I highly recommend the spicy tuna and salmon. The medium bowl is definitely shareable but if it's just you then go with the small. I usually get avocado but it does look like it's not freshly cut here. I also got a honeydew boba drink and it was delicious. The establishment itself is nice and a good spot to eat inside or outdoors. They have a nice lounge area. They also have 10 percent off for military and first responders in uniform. They are veteran owned which is awesome! Parking is good as well. read more

Got the medium bowl with a tiny bit of resentment because I thought it was overpriced but really wanted 3 proteins. After my bowl was made and I saw how much was packed into that bowl I felt the price was justified! It's easily a meal for 2 or enough left overs for a second meal. Proteins were fresh and tasty! Horrible tasting food. Rice just tasted like straight up vinegar no balance what so ever. Salmon tasted rotten and and our crunch roll had shrimp that had no tempura on it and the miso soup was salty and there was dill in it... I've never seen dill in miso soup. My boyfriend noticed the bowl prices went up. Everything had a charge: mango mix, imitation crab, seaweed salad, and more! All those sides were free at one point. We had to hold back from adding to our bowl. Plus the protein portions were SMALL. We loved coming here because we had a full bowl and definitely worth the money. Thank goodness for vegan option ! I got a small bowl with tofu, brown rice , seaweed salad, edamame , mango mix and avocado. I'm confused I was charged extra for the avocado when on the menu it clearly states you could choose one or ALL. But they charged me $1.50. Extra. For people complaining about the price, most meals to go cost on average $10-$15 so it's actually not that bad , especially for getting healthy fresh ingredients. I really enjoyed my bowl, it was just the right amount of food & the citrus ponzu sauce was pretty amazing. Customer service was good just confused why it doesn't state that they charge extra for avocado... Great food, ultra clean and a staff that really knows the product line. What's not to love? I have driven by this area of Imperial Beach and didn't even know this Poke 1,2,3 was here. Street signage is scarce and the entrance is on the backside of the mall area. Parking in the rear which is actually the front. Met the Manager Jim and he couldn't have been nicer. Super fresh fish and perfect sides and vegetables. The sauces are made fresh and the portions are generous. The store has seating inside and outside. You can order online and pick up to save time. I've been a few times, and the only times I have gone are when I am headed for the ocean and want to snag some fresh fish before I get there. Right off, I will tell you that this location has a pretty well-constituted dining room and wonderful outdoor seating with a lovely water fixture. The patio is shared with the other restaurants in the area, namely 5 Guys and Jersey Mike's. I will also tell you that I've made the mistake of believing I could enjoy a chill sit on the patio whilst listening to the water fixture and being sun kissed during my time enjoying my poke. A nice, quiet reprieve. ...It has happened on nearly every occasion that, suddenly, there will be a family too keen to let their gaggle of children run all over the patio area, screaming and yelling for no known reason. Back to the menu. So, this place has three options: "tacos," nori burritos and bowls. I always go for the custom-made bowls. The large is a heaping mound. Excellent serving size, but you are going to be handing over a wad of money. Nearly $14 only to be hungry again after spending a mere two hours on the beach. The base choices are brown and white rice, rice noodles, salad or tortilla chips. Really? Tortilla chips as a base? That should be listed as an add-on. Proteins offered are salmon, tuna, octopus, shrimp, albacore, chicken and tofu. You can choose spicy options for tuna. I usually go for the salmon, tuna and the octopus, which has such a lovely flavor here. Toppings include edamame, scallions, masago, ginger, mango, vegetables, jalapenos, cilantro and fukujinzuke, which is a Japanese relish. Sauces -- be careful with these, as they love to slather your food with these sauces: ponzu, shoyu and spicy mayo. The shoyu options include sesame and spicy options. Then you can add sides and other toppings, like cucumbers, seaweed salad (one of my favorites), avocado (which is not always that fresh and is often too mushy), imitation crab, crunch onions and garlic, sesame seeds, macadamia nuts (wut?) and furikake, which is a rice seasoning that generally includes dried ingredients like fish, sesame seeds and seaweed. The fish has always been fresh. Never a problem there. But the rice can be too gelatinous. That has happened multiple times. Fat, gummy grains of rice really ruin a dish. Also, the team will sometimes put so much sauce in the bowl that you will be hard pressed to enjoy the dish, let alone taste the fish. Tell them to go light. read more

The smell of fish belts you across the face as you walk in. Poke 123 has a nice modern look and it was also very clean inside. As you walk up the counter you see how their poke ordering works. Now if you're an expert at poke ordering it's pretty standard, but if you're relatively new to it and don't know what item combinations work well together you're screwed. They don't have "specialty sections" where the best combinations are already written down and you just order by number or name. Several other poke places do this and it makes ordering poke bowls so much easier. Note, they do this for their poke burritos and their poke tacos. Why not their bowls? Because of their menu, the best choice was to order their waves, basically a poke taco. Those were all pre-configured which made ordering very easy. They tasted okay but some of the rice was a little undercooked ( crunchy) so overall it would have been much nicer to have ordered a bowl. - And you thought Imperial Beach's ocean water had a strong smell... read more

However, tonight 6-24-2022, I went to Poke 123 at 8:45pm and the worker behind the counter turned me away and said they were closed even though the sign on the entrance said they close at 9pm.
