Unfortunately in Portland it's often not a matter of "if" you have to deal with pests but "when." In one house, I had rats crawling through a hole in the floor, stealing expensive in-ear headphones, and making their nest in our oven. At another house they'd made swiss cheese holes under the home's slab. After both of those lovely scenarios, I'm not messing around. I hired New Leaf for preventative care after I bought my first house. Especially important as it's located near restaurants and commercial spaces with dumpsters and food waste which is a dream for rodents. New Leaf hasn't tried to price gouge or pressure me like some other pest control companies I interacted with. However their fee isn't cheap. I think they charge me ~$80 per visit though their website says fees start at $98. They recommend monthly treatment at first with the possibility or reducing to quarterly visits if things are looking okay. I haven't found their ant spray to be all that effective, though who knows if things would be worse without it? I appreciate their helps with rodents and wasps. One technician noticed my Backyard Habitat sign and suggested some adaptations to the treatment plan. So if you're looking for eco-friendly or low-chemical approaches, let them know. Scheduling has always been easy, and both the office and technicians are communicative and prompt. Some of the techs do like to chat so I have to excuse myself and let them (and me!) get back to work. They provide a variety of services in the Vancouver and Portland area: pest control for ants, bed bugs, wasps, termites, and rodents, as well as more general home maintenance like crawl space, duct, and sump pump repair. Our…read morehouse was so full of ants that we would find them on rugs, on ceilings, even in our bed at night. They were everywhere. We had Campbell out a couple of time, but it got worse instead of better. Then they sent Darryl, and he earned our eternal gratitude. He found ant trails we didn't even point out, or know we had, and figured out where they were going to and coming from. He went into rooms that we hadn't reported a problem in (with permission, of course...) and showed us where additional ant activity was. Then he baited incredibly carefully, to ensure our cats would not be at risk of exposure to the bait. (Our cats loved Darryl too!) He even followed up with a text a few days later, saying he was thinking about our job, and he wanted to know if the situation had improved! Who does that?! It had improved, by 85 - 90%, but we still saw ants. So he returned and spent an equal amount of time and patience identifying their sources. Darryl has made a tremendous difference in our ability to enjoy our home He is a treasure, and a super nice person, Thanks Darryl, and thanks to Campbell for sending him!!

The first technician, Peyton, was incredibly kind and reassuring -- he told me he'd seen way worse and instantly put me at ease. He was polite, professional, and efficient, and I only needed to be out of the house (along with my cat) for about an hour while he sprayed. You're guaranteed three sprays for one initial price, which I found to be very reasonable. When the second spray date came around, I was running behind -- my cat wasn't in her carrier, my stuff wasn't ready, and I was flustered. Peyton patiently waited for me to get everything together and even helped carry a few things to my car! That kind of kindness is rare and so appreciated. By the third spray, I had a new technician named Isaac, who was just as friendly and patient as Peyton (again, I wasn't quite ready -- when they say 11 to noon, expect 11 promptly! ). Both technicians were fantastic: professional, punctual, and genuinely kind people who made a stressful situation so much easier. I can't recommend Campbell Pest Control enough -- their customer service alone deserves five stars. Every time I called, a real person answered the phone - no robots whatsoever. I even spoke with the owner, Austin, who was extremely kind and is the reason I'm writing this review.

After a short period of having the area blocked off, all the yellow jacket activity subsided. I'm happy to report the bees and other pollinators were still buzzing around. Carl was efficient and considerate. He even called the next day to see if his applications worked. He patiently answered all my questions and went above and beyond to make sure everything was done right. He's very knowledgeable about all types of flying stinging insects. Besides getting rid of the pests, I learned a lot. This company uses methods and products that have very little, if any, negative impact on the environment and on bees. Of course, I'm very happy about that!

Three months on from their final visit and second vapor barrier, we witnessed a rat run across the yard and under the house and disappear. Surprise, surprise -- we found yet another enormous entry point their team missed in the first ten visits. Prior to this, we had two additional follow up visits to cover other gaps in the foundation that were missed in the initial installation of a barrier -- it's like someone didn't do a thorough walk through and check of the work the day it was performed. In addition, we've had numerous issues with their team showing up unannounced to do work, and then arguing with us telling us they don't need us home to do the work so it's okay. It isn't okay to show up unannounced, as it interrupts our own schedules, animals, and focus ability for work. They also need access to our secured yard so they can't actually complete the work without us there. I've held back for a very long time on writing a review, but seeing the rat run straight into the house today was the last straw in my tolerance for such low quality work. I am really sad to be writing this, but sadder still to be living in a rat-infested home because I trusted the wrong company to help us.
