Fountain

Where the rivers of the Allegheny and Monongahela River forms the Ohio River, my partner's family and I came to this park earlier today as it's one of the highlights of downtown Pittsburgh. It's free to enter, but if you are driving here, then be aware that the parking lot is $10. This site was especially important in the late 1700's when it changed hands between the French and British because of it's strategic position at the mouth of the Ohio River. Only a small blockhouse remains of the original structure(s) but there is a modern museum detailing the history of the forts that sat here back in the day. We enjoyed our walk about and the stunning views of the rivers, bridges, and the city, but the Fountain is the highlight of this park. We highly recommend this park.

Point State Park is located at the confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers, forming the Ohio River. The Point State Park Fountain is also worth a visit - as it's at the location where the three rivers meet! What views. Lots of people were taking their photos in front of the fountain. Great spot for a short walk, views, and a photo!

Beautiful view of the waterfront. The trail was paved and easy to follow. The fountain was just very beautiful and we saw rainbow. The park was well maintained and had lots of shades. It was my first time visiting this park and I definitely wanted to go back in the future.

I've lived in Pittsburgh for many, many years and I can probably count on my fingers how many times I can remember the fountain being running. The fountain at Point State Park seemingly has always been under construction! So naturally, on a trip home, I was more than excited to see it up and running on a hot summer day. First and foremost, Point State Park is a beautiful park on its own, being surrounded by water, but the fountain at the point makes it like a big shiny star on top of your tree at Christmas. It's a huge focal point for the city, it's an ornament that gives the city just the right amount of decoration and beauty which is already a lot considering the skyline. Couple of things for tourists: 1. Don't swim in the fountain. 2. They have restrooms at the park near the fountain. You'll see people, especially children, running about, enjoying the summer, probably trying to catch a break from the hit. The mist of the fountain feels nice, and although you may see someone in the fountain, please don't. That's not what it's there for. It's a great place to snap some photos, whether you're a tourist or not. You'll get some amazing shots of the city, with or without the fountain in it, and is has some great walking paths as well. It's easy to get to so you have to stop at least once while you're in the city. Just don't stick your feet in it, please.

The mist feels great on a hot day...but then I can't help but think... Recirculated water.... Look at all those people breaking the rules... Wading in the fountain... Soaking their feet...in the fountain... The view is pretty great though! Definitely the pinnicle point to see the three rivers meet. View and admire from afar.

During our stay in Pittsburgh we were just a short walk from Point State Park Fountain, located in Pittsburgh's "Golden Triangle", where the three rivers meet. While there is no playground or other amenities at Point State Park there is a large grassy area as well as a 150-foot fountain. The stunning views of the riverfront and Pittsburgh make this park worthy of a visit if you are in downtown Pittsburgh.

I love to travel but love coming home to the 'burgh; especially in the summertime. Driving through the Fort Pitt tunnels on the way back from the airport and seeing the view is breathtaking. Seeing the fountain at full blast with the sun shining is so welcoming. I remember being a child and art school student spending many days lounging and splashing about the fountain. Even today it's great fun to sit on the ledge and dip my feet in the water as the geyser rushes above.

Very cool. The fountain is terrific. People all over enjoying themselves. It's so nice to have America back in action. People are enjoying themselves, walking the dogs and lots of smiles. I would recommend anyone coming to Pittsburgh to check this out. It's one of a kind. Manmade.

Truly an eye-catching presence in downtown Pittsburgh situated in Point State Park. Closed for four years and reopened in 2013, it spews water 150 feet into the air and sits at the point of land mass marking the convergence of Pittsburgh's 3 rivers -- the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers. It also marks the end of the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) rail trail with mile 150 (mile 0 being at Cumberland, MD). Every ride we take downtown (usually on a Sunday afternoon) involves riding to the fountain, tilting the sun-glassed face toward the sky, breathing in deeply, then taking in the sights, watching people, ducks, geese, boats, maybe listening to cheers from a football or baseball game before heading over to Market Square to sit outside and dine and quench our thirst before riding again.

BEAUTIFUL! FREE!! Great tourist spot. You can see Heinz field, the bridges, the city and historic forts. It's always a great tourist-picture taking spot. My friends and I had a nice walk here and even laid by the fountain. It was a hot-humid day, so the mist from the fountain was a nice feeling. You'll find many tourist and locals hanging out and enjoying the park. You might catch a few getting some serious tanning. I'm sure many events will be taking place during the summer. If you're visiting, stop by Point Sate Park and enjoy the festivities!

I love this fountain in this lovely park. I love to go here when the fountain is flowing full. It is so lovely. When you get close to it, the spray off the water feels so good on a hot day. There are signs saying no wading or getting in the water. I wish they would let you get wet. But rules are rules for a reason... Great location for a picnic or group/family outing. Great view of the river, the city line, the mountains, the incline across the river and Heinz Football field across the river too. I love this park and would definitely go here again. I have been here several times in the past. This time I was here on Wednesday, April 27th, 2016 with my hubby Tony Vanoy, daughter Noel Teel and her boyfriend Adam McCafferty. We had a great time and a great visit. The park is free to visit and so is the fountain. So, if you are visiting in Pittsburgh, you definitely need to check out this lovely park.

It is a fountain in Point State Park. See how good I am at stating the obvious!? This place is where you come to relax after getting there and where you take in the view.... or the second-hand smoke from the guy next to you exhaling a billow of smoke. Either way, you come here to appreciate Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is a scenic town. You really are offered the best seat in the house from this location where the fountain is settled. I did what any other tacky or narcissistic tourist would do - I took selfies and did a handstand to post on social media to make me look so cool. I didn't think that was as different as the chicks on the other side of the fountain doing yoga poses. Bring your camera and dress up for the shot. You're likely to see someone in getting engaged, taking engagement photos, or wedding photos down here on a weekend or pretty day. You might as well jump in on the phone without the special occasion if you're going to take the time to come down here in the first place. My friend and I came here right as the sun is setting. It was heavily policed, so I fathom this place is always on high alert. Common sense would still tell you nonetheless not to come down here alone, but do what you want at your own risk. Use your best judgment. This the best view in the house, so take it all in and get that photo in the process!

This fountain is, bar none, the crown jewel of Point State Park. I remember when it was being renovated, and the park hardly was worth visiting on non-special event days without it. I attended the ceremony two years ago when it was turned back on at the beginning of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, and it was awesome to experience the majesty of the water pouring forth--even though the wind comically blew it squarely onto the band, despite being under a shelter. When I found out on Sat. that CM had never seen the fountain, despite having been to Point State Park, this necessitated a visit, esp. since we had just finished dinner at nearby Stone Pizzeria. At the time of our visit, it was around 7:30, and the sun had begun setting. I'd only been to see the fountain during broad daylight previously, so seeing it during sunset was a new experience for me. It was breathtakingly beautiful--the pinkness of the sky reflected through the water, contrasting with the growing darkness of the surroundings (see photo). If you haven't ever been during this time of day, I'd highly recommend it--esp. for a date, since it's very romantic. When the fountain was renovated, it was modified so that it no longer draws water from the fourth underground river that people like to talk about. Instead, the water in the fountain is now city water, so that people can stick their feet in without fears about the cleanliness of the water. During our visit, we saw several people doing so, as well as some people wading in the outer ring, despite a sign saying that wading wasn't permitted. On hot days, the allure of the cool water is just too much to resist, and the spray is refreshing. The fountain is also lighted at night, making for a stunning visual impact. Thus, no matter what time of day or the weather, it's a great experience! If you haven't ever been to see the fountain, you're missing out on one of PGH's best treasures. If this is the case, be sure to take some time to visit it and experience its majesty the next time you're downtown. Even if you have, I highly suggest renting a kayak from Kayak PGH near PNC Park to check it out from a new perspective--the river!

Beautiful. Definitely recommend stopping by to lie on the side of the fountain in the sunshine, especially in the fall.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Keith! He had to do much first hand knowledge of the facility,…read morehaving worked there himself when he graduated the army. The tour lasted about 2.5 hours and was mostly outside in direct sunlight. There were a few opportunities for shade, but not many. If you come on a hot day, plan to arrive hydrated and grab a complimentary water bottle from the check in desk. You'll need it. Parking is plentiful, the history is intriguing, and the art scattered about the property is thoughtful and engaging. If you're lucky, you'll spot some wildlife who inhabit the surrounding area.

I come from a long line of steelworkers and thought I pretty much knew all there was to know. That was, until the tour. The tour guide was extremely informative. Most of the folks working (volunteering) at Carrie have some connection to the steel industry. In addition to the tour, I have had the privilege of attending events there as well. Yep, they rent out the space. Everything was well put together at the events and having the furances as backdrop took it to the next level. As far as the tours go, I feel so strongly that Pittsburgh natives and tourists alike take one. It's really incredible to learn how much of the country was built because of Carrie.
