4.5 stars overall. Pittsburgh's total number of bridges is disputed, but we can safely say that the city contains hundreds of bridges and deserves its title "The City of Bridges." The Fort Pitt Bridge is one of the best known bridges in the city.
The Fort Pitt Bridge was built from steel and opened in 1959. It is an arch bridge that has two decks and spans over 1,200 feet. The bridge carries Interstate 376 over the Monongahela River to connect the southwestern suburbs with the downtown city.
As my fellow Yelper Bruce already pointed out, crossing lanes on this bridge can be tricky. I feel thankful that my husband is an excellent driver who can navigate the traffic here.
The main reason for my 5-star rating is the beautiful appearance of the bridge. Fort Pitt Bridge has Aztec Gold (yellow) paint that perfectly incorporates one Pittsburgh's official colors of gold. read more
