we drive by here all a lot and finally came in to try it out! pretty busy on a friday night but only had to wait a bit to get a table. the restaurant is that old mom and pop style theme. felt very cozy and at home. we ordered the mozzarella sticks, the fried chicken, and the country fried steak. chicken was very crispy and juicy. for me, it lacked a little salt but i love salt more than the average person so my taste buds may be altered. the mac and cheese and fried okra was great. cornbread was okay and the chicken fried steak was just okay as well. overall a pretty good meal and the staff was friendly and professional. i'd be be back to try other items on the menu! read more

The service was excellent! The ambiance is always very interesting. I and two friends of mine ate at this restaurant in Niceville yesterday. I had the chicken and dumplings which was good and tasty as always. However, my two friends had fried chicken breasts and fried green tomatoes. I thought all Po-Folks restaurants were closed, so imagine my joy when we found this one after dropping relatives off at the airport. This place was packed, but it didn't take long to get a seat. It was longer finding a parking spot. The service is fantastic, as is the food. I got the fried chicken dinner, and my wife got the Spaghetti and meat sauce. Everything was excellent, hot, fast and super friendly. The waitress brought refills before we even needed them, and made sure we were doing well or needed anything. Driving from the Fort Walton airport a few weeks ago we saw PoFolks on the way to our rental and we all said we gotta try the restaurant while we're visiting. Today was the day we went and for me it was average at best. Out of all the restaurants we've been to this PoFolks is definitely the cheapest restaurant for the amount of food you get. I would say the food is just average and I would rather pay higher prices and go to Cracker Barrel. The fried chicken did its job to satisfy our fried chicken wants and the mashed potatoes were good. The mac n cheese was ok and didn't have much taste. Ambiance is outdated and the ceiling needs to be replaced. This restaurant was a standalone location with hole in the wall vibes. The food was southern fare but very good. I have blackened whitefish and deviled crab in a seafood combo with black eyed peas, turnip greens, and hush puppies. The veggies were seasoned but not necessarily to my liking. The whitefish was cooked but not hot so that's the reason for the four stars. The appetizers were fried green tomatoes and corn fritters - delicious, but could have been seasoned. The rest of my party had the chicken and dumplings, pork chop, fried liver and onions, and the thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Also, sweet tea was The parking was ample and the restrooms were okay. The restaurant is simple and unpretentious. Is small-town folksy, and we felt welcome. The restaurant was crowded, and the clientele was easily an older crowd. The menu is typical meat-and-vegetable style dining. For my lunch I had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, cabbage, and cornbread. It was okay. Overall a good experience. I wouldn't go out of my way for PoFolks, but it's a safe option with a wide menu. read more

The main dish we're delicious and we enjoyed it! For the side dishes, we enjoyed the breadstick. Mac&Cheese wasn't that spectacular, it wasn't bad, just not enough to order another bowl. Cornbread wasn't warm enough for the butter to melt in but maybe I'm the only one that orders cornbread expecting the butter to melt on it. Unfortunately, prices go up, it's a fact of life, but what drives people away is when the quality of the food and/or the portion amount goes downs. A bowl of Chicken & Dumplings, once a delightful simple meal, is now disgusting and is more expensive to boot. They used to put pulled chicken pieces and chunks in the dumplings. The last order we had (about a week ago) had "perfectly squared" cubes like you would find in a can of Dinty More Dumplings or a can of Campbell's soup. It tasted salty and was just so disappointing. I mashed it up and served it to a family of stray cats - they licked it, but even they didn't eat the questionable chicken! With the sad price hikes (2 to 4 dollars on just about everything), and now the food quality dropping, this is just another restaurant that's off our list. read more

I had never previously been to a Po Folks, but apparently it's a childhood staple of some people I know. The beauty of Southern food is that everything is fried! You can pretty much fry anything and make it taste good. I started with the fried green tomatoes, one of my favorite things, and they were delicious. A great breading, but not too heavy and not greasy. I followed up with the fried chicken lunch that came with two sides -- I opted for mac and cheese and fried okra -- and a biscuit or cornbread. The fried chicken was moist, the fried skin deliciously crispy. The fried okra was also well-seasoned and good. The mac and cheese fell flat for me, not too much flavor and the cornbread was a bit dry. The service was fantastic, the prices great for the amount of food you're given and a danger if one was near me because it's hard for me to pass up so much fried food. I've eaten a lot of fried chicken in my 28 years and let me say they have some of the best I've had. I got the 2 piece chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, turnip greens, and a biscuit. The thigh and leg were very large, juicy, and flavorful. Turnip greens had pieces of ham in them which was yummy. And the mashed potatoes with brown gravy were so-so. They tasted like KFC mashed potatoes. Not a huge fan of that but it was still an exceptionally delicious meal. We ordered pick up and at the window and you can see right into the kitchen.
