Twin bed room pod
Alice T.

If you're looking for a simple, clean, budget hotel in the Murray Hills area, this is the hotel. It's walking distance from SUMMIT One, Chrysler Building, Grand Central Terminal, and United Nations HQ. Plenty of restaurants closeby as well. I went on a solo trip and stayed in a room with a twin bed. It is like being in a shoebox without any good views out the window, but it was the most affordable during New York Fashion Week. I've stayed at other Pod Hotels in NYC, and this location is great. Highly recommended if you're on a budget.

East coast is home and I needed a simple place to stay for one night on my way to visit for the holidays. Before booking, I read a lot of reviews here on Yelp with complaints about size and noise. I booked anyway for location and price -- it's a budget hotel in NYC, what do you expect? Once I landed in JFK, I took an easy train ride here. Again, I grew up here so navigating how to get here was a breeze. Honestly I was expecting less of Pod39 - it's marketed as a hostel-type experience with individual rooms. It's actually more of a dorm room where you can run into people from all parts of the world and because the lax nature of the hotel, it's easy to strike up conversation with anyone you may bump into. I was impressed with how many floors Pod39 had - I happened to be on the very top floor with easy access to the rooftop. It was closed for the season, but the door was open a few times and I was able to check it out. Regardless if the rooftop was open or not, there is quaint seating here before you exit onto the roof. It's a nice little area that most people probably wouldn't frequent knowing the rooftop is closed. I reserved a single pod which had one bed and was perfect for my quick stay. The layout of the room was smart and space saving - from the bathroom and shower and sliding door, to the storage underneath the bed. The room provides just what you need - bed, toilet and shower, desk, towels, even down to a safe. The one thing I did notice was the smell here - almost mold-like, which I think is a result of how humid it can get in here when running a hot shower and because the water hits the window shutters which probably causes some build up. The Club Room is an all encompassing lounge area where there's a bar, a game of pool, some arcade games, plenty of seating, and where breakfast is served. It reminded me of a winter cabin where you might run into your hallmark lover haha. The website says there is continental breakfast - when I think continental my mind automatically thinks free. The breakfast foods are not free and are individually priced. However, coffee, tea and water are free. Because I went in thinking I didn't need to pay, I didn't bring my wallet and my room ended up being charged which was fine. All in all, everything from check-in to check-out was smooth. They offer you to store your luggage safely away in a back room until 11pm so you can continue exploring the city outside of your check-out time. Pod39 was perfect for my one night stay in a city I'm familiar with. I would definitely recommend it for solo travelers (though I did see families of 2-3 here) and for short-term stays, or long-term especially in NYC where most of your time will probably be outdoors!

Just checked in and this place is amazing! Beautiful lobby and wonderful friendly staff :) It is close to the central station subway so easy to travel! The room with selected was tiny but had its own bathroom. It was perfect for what we needed in NYC. The best part was definitely the Rooftop bar! Incredible views of the city and a great happy hour. Definitely recommend

I have stayed at 4 of the pod properties before - pod 51, pod times Square, pod 39 and pod DC (obviously, in DC not NYC) I can highly recommend any of them, for affordability, cleanliness, safety, and location. My past trip to NYC post covid I stayed in a queen (or maybe a full?) Pod at the pod 39 and it was a great stay all around. Staff is always pleasant and friendly - check in has always been no problem even when I have been a little early. In the downstairs they had a bar with pool tables and games. Then from 7-11 am it turns into a cafe with free tea and coffee and reasonably priced pastries fruit and juice. The top of the beautiful Italianate building is a popular bar in season. You can also go just take in the view up there starting at 11 am. My room was quite small (I'm guessing 9x9 or 10) with a small bath separated by glass doors. The windows are small but there was one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom so it let in a fair amount of light. There's a TV, desk, rack for clothes and lots of outlets. The halls were very quiet and my room was cleaned promptly and thoroughly each morning. For the price, you can really not go wrong with any of these hotels. This one is 3 or 4 blocks from grand central Station and all its many subway and train options (I easily took the LIRR in from JFk) The hotel attracts alot of young people but also European travellers who maybe used to smaller rooms, and just your standard budget traveller (i.e. yours truly). The room size and the fact that the bathroom is essentially in the room may be a deal breaker for sharing a room, but you could probably get two single pods for the price of a larger mediocre hotel room. If you don't mind small spaces and plan to be outside exploring definitely give Pod 39 a shot

Fun place. The roof top bar is open now so it's worth the trip. Small efficient rooms. Bar, restaurant and friendly service.

Cyann L.

Room space was realistically true to all reviews. Only about a step away to get to the bathroom, and two to the door. Conveniently their bed is design to store ur luggage under with some space by the door as well, so only a party of 1-2 is ideal for this place. The place is clean as expected, the shower could of use some work. House keeping comes every morning, the rooftop was beautiful and drinks were reasonable from nyc. We got to see the fireworks from there thankfully! also easy location to get around by transit, mostly grand central! breakfast is not free but coffee and water is! negative points, no hot water or microwave in lobby

There which of drawers. It was just one drawer under the bed for your "stuff," and a place to slide a bag.

Traveling during the holidays can be hectic, but the staff at the Park Hyatt made everything feel effortless. Every interaction -- from the front desk to housekeeping to the concierge -- was filled with genuine kindness, patience, and warmth. It was clear they weren't just doing their jobs; they truly cared about making our holiday special. The hotel itself is stunningly elegant yet incredibly comfortable. After long walks through Central Park, returning to our room felt like stepping into a peaceful retreat. The spaciousness, thoughtful details, and quiet luxury made it easy for our family to relax, laugh, and simply be together -- which is what the holidays are really about. We had our first breakfast in New York at the hotel's "the living room" which is located in the lobby. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful with modern decor and stunning 30 foot ceilings. We arrived at 7am as the restaurant just opened and Kamil greeted us with a warm genuine smile. We've stayed at 5 different Park Hyatts in the past 5 years (Kyoto being the most recent) and no one has made us feel as special as Kamil. He has the unique gift of hospitality. He went out of his way to treat us like family and made us feel very special. All of his small gestures, friendly smiles, and thoughtful attention to detail, turned simple moments into special memories. During a season meant for connection and joy, the Park Hyatt delivered both in abundance. Spending Christmas in New York is always special, but spending it at the Park Hyatt New York elevated the experience beyond anything we could have imagined. Our days were spent with full hearts, lasting memories, and deep gratitude for a team that understands true hospitality. This is a place we will return to -- not just for the luxury, but for the people who made us feel so genuinely at home during the most meaningful time of year.

Unfortunately, due to geopolitical instability impacting our return route through Amman and the broader Persian Gulf region, our travel plans became unworkable. I contacted multiple hotels involved in our itinerary, and every one of them demonstrated professionalism and understanding by waiving cancellation fees given the circumstances--including other Marriott properties and the Ritz-Carlton. This property, however, took a completely different approach. I spoke with Samir in the reservations department. He refused to provide any refund. We went back and forth multiple times, and each time he introduced a new justification. At one point, he claimed the U.S. State Department had not advised against travel to the Persian Gulf and that any warning had expired on March 31. I provided evidence that there was no expiration date, yet he continued to deny the request. I also explained that other Marriott properties and Ritz-Carlton locations had already issued full refunds under the same circumstances. Despite this, he continued to refuse any accommodation. Only after I told him I would be leaving a review about my experience did he offer a future credit. That is not a practical solution when I have no certainty of returning to Morocco. I then requested that a manager follow up with me. No one ever did. Communication stopped entirely. This response reflects a lack of flexibility, accountability, and basic customer consideration--especially when compared to how other properties under the Marriott International brand handled the exact same situation. As a result, I had to absorb the financial loss and cancel the reservation. Based on this experience, I recommend considering alternative accommodations that demonstrate greater responsiveness and professionalism when dealing with legitimate, unforeseen global disruptions.

Bonus-it was clean!! The iPad system to control the room is clever: manage the thermostat, tv, blinds/shades and lights. It takes a minute for the iPad to connect (not sure if it's a wifi issue or that these iPads are an older model). Speaking of the thermostat, it kinda worked. I think it shuts off or scales back when there's no movement in the room. I had a hard time getting it cooled down to a good temperature, so I didn't sleep as well as I would have liked. The bed is very comfortable, though...and even with the small space, there are plenty of places to hang clothes and store items. Several outlets and USB charging stations available as well. There aren't any washcloths - just hand/body towels... and it's up to you if you want to have your room lightly cleaned or fully turned over. (See your iPad to make that option). There was only one elevator working, so it could take a few minutes to get your lift up or down. The staff that we engaged with were great. Check in and out were super easy. The lobby is pretty cool and hip. There's a small rooftop bar/lounge and a nice sized food/canteen area in the lobby. The location is outstanding. 50th just off 8th Ave...right in the heart of Times Square and walking distance to many other destinations. I would stay here in the future...2-3 nights is perfect. This spot is super centrally located, and during NYFW was an affordable, clean, and hip spot to stay for a few days. I am familiar with CitizenM as I have been to their hotel bars in their Miami locations, but had never stayed at one. I truly enjoyed my experience here. From check in to ordering wine or coffee at the bar, to the room, it was all lovely. I will say, the room is quite small. But truly, what do you need a big room for when you're going to be exploring NYC all day? The bed we got was a king, and dare I say it was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. The room is set up a bit like a studio, with two little closets which made it easy to organize and unpack, a small desk, and a vanity in the common area. The toilet and shower are together in what kind of looks like a spaceship capsule in the middle of the room. One cool thing is how high tech this hotel is - you have an ipad that controls everything in the room from the room temp, your blinds, to the TV, to connecting your devices to the TV to stream music, etc. In the lobby bar you can opt in for hotel breakfast buffet, but instead we would just grab coffees as we were getting ready. Grace at the bar was super friendly, as was all of the staff. My one area for improvement is the elevator. We received a notice that one of the three elevators was broken during our stay and every time we would get on the elevator it would take us multiple floors up before going down. Not the worst thing in the world, but just annoying if you're in a rush to get somewhere. If you are looking for an affordable, centrally located hotel to stay with a friendly staff this hotel is your spot. You have multiple subway stations within a 1-2 minute walk which can easily get you to any neighborhood you want to go during your stay. Would definitely return!

Prime location! Modern, spacious rooms (for the city)!…read more The elevators though.... Oy. I stayed at this hotel over the New Years holiday and was thrilled to be so close to Madison Square Garden and Times Square. As was expected, check in was a bit chaotic given the time of year. The ground floor entrance was PACKED with luggage on first arrival. After weaving our way through, we located the check-in desk on the 5th or 6th floor. Tons of people but adequate seating to wait for our room to be ready. An upper floor meant having to figure out their dreaded elevator system. It left something to be desired, to say the least. With only 3 elevators that service the whole of the hotel, and a 4th that goes who knows where, it was almost always a lengthy struggle to catch one. No buttons on the interior of the carriage, all elevators were called with a touchscreen device that seemingly tried to pack as many people as possible into one small space, leaving many behind that couldn't fit, before directing the passengers to another elevator to repeat the whole process over again. One day was so bad, it was actually preferable to walk up the stairs to the 14th floor. Woof. The room itself was wonderful. Spacious, with 2 beds. Very clean. Beautiful view of the city and the arena next door. Great way to catch the sun set. Walk in shower with both an overhead and handheld shower attachment. Great lighting. Shower had heavily frosted glass that faced the bedroom area so be prepared for your silhouette to be on full display for anyone you may be rooming with. Nice sized closet, safe, and mini fridge. Big flat screen television. Window shade worked very well to block out the light if you're hoping to sleep in late. Walls can be a bit thin, especially if you have a rowdy bunch of kids right next door as we did. Aside from the elevators, the perks far outweighed the usual peskier elements (e.g., noise, etc.) one encounters when staying away from home.
