But of course not for major renovations or decorating projects - for those you'd want to go to Home Depot, where I'd many times get bewildered and lost amongst all the variety and choice of items. Here, the staff is very friendly, helpful and indeed tries to understand what we laymen needs or wants to do, and show what all we need. I guess that since home hardwares are individually owned, that this is the big difference from the big box stores which caters to the trades and more professional carpenters, plumbers and electricians etc. Not particularly cheap but fair prices and welcoming for us amateur gardeners, home decorators and those forced to become their own handyman! By the way, this is their new location - I've gone to their west 4th location for years and was dismayed that I couldn't find it recently! Surprised that they're still showing the old address on Yelp!!

This was actually the first hardware store where I encountered this as all the chains, even smaller ones, let you browse. They definitely take the pandemic seriously as on top of the no browsing, they have a very fancy system with a light signal telling you when you can come inside where staff will ask you what you want ring you up and then have someone bring your purchase out to your car. It's a pretty effixient efficient system. They also carry sand topping mix, which is sold out pretty much everywhere else in Vancouver. Prices are competitive, not cheap but not expensive. As an independent business, they have a convenient location in kitsilano that is a good alternative to big box stores. The parking lot is small, but does the job.

Upon entering you feel the slippage of time, creaky wooden floors, lots of nooks and crannies with old-timey looking products everywhere. Windsor is part of a dying breed, those old school hardware stores that have been put out of business by the big box monsters. But Windsor is still there and going strong, and more importantly leading the way in customer service. I know my way around a workbench and have been known to twist a wrench or two, but every one of the employees I dealt with was a pro. They knew their sh*t and never once swore. During what I like to call my "sister's shelf adventure" I was given several options and possible solutions to the problem, once chosen my solution was perfectly cut by the same fellow that had helped all the way through. When I got it home, it fit perfectly, the end result, happy sister. All because a hardware store employee knew what he was talking about and was happy to help. Take that Home Depot, you too Lowe's and don't get me started on Canadian Tire. Don't pass up the chance to visit and support this wonderful old hardware and lumber store, it's got some amazing products (check out the live wood shelving or all the weird novelty type hardware stuff). All that combined with a smart, fun and funny staff makes it easy to go to this hardware store, even if it's for your sister.

They offered to send us a white framed door with a discount delivered by end of week. We emailed back saying that our doors wouldn't be matching and that we would want a pair of matching doors with white frames and that they could take back the silver framed door. No further emails or calls from Windsor...and no door. On Tuesday, Feb 13th, Windsor called saying they would have the silver frame door ready and delivered by yesterday (Saturday Feb 17th). We called on Friday to confirm the delivery time as we wanted to make sure we were around on Saturday. However Windsor still didn't have the door. So no door as of today... Still....

Some are cheaper than the big orange box store. Sometimes not but there is usually overall a good selection of tools for a very good price. Their boxes of nitrile work gloves tend to be cheaper here than most places. It's definitely worth coming to check it out if you're in the market for tools, work gear and paint. Service is also friendly and can direct you to where things are unlike the big red box store.

I do, however like their location (close to work) and I like that they're a local business with multiple locations (commercial drive, other 4th ave location). It was kind of like a local, hands on Amazon (given the recent CP strikes, hands on is good!). Or, a cross between Welks and a gritty Daiso. They also have a great selection of bakeware, kitchen timers, utensils, canning and kombucha brewing supplies, rolling pins, and rugs and everything you need for your kitchen, washroom, and home. The sheer magnitude and variety of items is overwhelming, but, now that you can mentally prepare for it, make a list of whatever you might need for your home and kitchen, and head on down. First Because I like dives and work area cafes I stopped by the cafe upstairs and it was good. Then I walk in as a nice young lady in the front desk says hello, I walk up to the counter and that's where it went all wrong. The first guy was giving me major attitude because I'm not sure about the project I'm carrying out and I asked a lot of questions. Then the phone rang and as he stuck his finger right in my face he asked the guy beside him to "take care of me". That guy was even worse.
