I recently transferred my policy from Farmers to Allstate for comparable quote. I signed all the…read morepaperwork with Allstate and approximately 5 weeks after my homeowners policy was active I received a phone call from Allstate asking me questions about the size of my porch, if my bathtubs have jets, if I have a sauna in the house. A week later I was informed by my branch that my home was valued $150,000 more that what was originally quoted and that my annual premium was going to increase from $2,516.58 to $3,585.33. I frantically called Farmers so I could re-start my policy with them and drop Allstate. I originally paid Allstate the $2,516.58 in full to start the policy. When I cancelled my policy with them and requested that they refund me the balance of the policy. When I received the check I noticed that kept almost $500 for 7 weeks of coverage. When I inquired about the refund they said that they retroactively charged me for the policy increase from the time started the policy not from the time they decided to raise the rates. I complained to the branch and to cooperate that I understand that you can charge me the increased rate from the time you notified me but it is completely illegal and unethical that you charge me from the start of the policy when we have signed documents at the lower rate. After talking to the Allstate Escalation team they told me that they are not willing to do anything to correct this.
