We worked up an appetite walking the grounds of the Decatur Cemetery, using one of their printed…read moreguides to find the interesting residents here. We did notice four different errors in the guide, so there's that. The Decatur Cemetery is the oldest known publicly owned burial ground in metro Atlanta, believed to predate the city's 1823 incorporation. Rich and poor, free and slave, and yes, quite a few CSA soldiers laid to rest here. Most of the walkways are easily walkable but some are not. If you're mobility challenged, there is still quite a lot that is accessible. Military veterans, legislators, congressmen, authors and judges. Even one of the delegates to the Secession Convention. This is well worth your time to visit. Please be respectful as this is an active cemetery and there are people here encountering their own personal losses. You can drive your car in and park to the side of the road, considerately. I rode my bike through the paths which was peaceful. It's also a nice place to watch the sun set. There's a few geocaches here if you're into that. Obviously, there's super old historical graves as well. Anyway, if you like Oakland Cemetery, you should check the Decatur Cemetery out.

Planning the funeral of our beloved mother, Lorna Yvonne King, from overseas was not easy -- but your team made every single step feel manageable, respectful, and personal. From all the phone calls you took from abroad, to your willingness to listen, guide, and gently support us, you made us feel like more than clients -- you made us feel like family. To Mr. Donzell Hennigan -- your leadership, compassion, and incredible attention to detail turned a difficult day into something beautiful. You brought calm where there was grief, and excellence where there could have been overwhelm. Your heart made all the difference. To Veronica -- thank you for your warmth, your patience, and the many calls and messages you responded to with kindness. You were a key part of making things run smoothly, and your presence truly mattered. And to every member of your team -- from those we met to those behind the scenes -- thank you for your grace, your coordination, your care with every flower, every arrangement, every movement. The service was one of a kind, and it was everything we hoped it would be for our mum. Thank you for honouring her. Thank you for holding us. I was scared, nervous, and... lost about how to do it all including providing a memorial befitting our young daughter. However, Brian and the team at H.M. But they made the process simple and easy. And they showed my wife and I and our baby girl the utmost care, attention, and respect. I was pleasantly surprised by how much care they took to honoring our girl. Ms. Gosa handled all arrangements with us. She also prepared my mother's body and our Mom looked absolutely beautiful. Everyone commented on how lovely our Mother appeared. We had a perfect viewing at the funeral home. This funeral home is located in a beautiful, park-like location, which was very nice for the viewing. They handled the transfer to the church and then to the National Cemetery. Note that if you are burying a military person they have very nice service plaques for each service that can be put at the interior top of the coffin. Ms. Gosa understood our financial needs and did not try to "up-sell" anything at all. Of note, they did not try to sell us a "procession" that every other funeral home said was required and at over $1000, too. The other funeral homes we evaluated cost at least double our end cost at Turner's. Definitely consider A.J. Turner's for your loved one's last care. They were spectacular for our family.

Having never been to a funeral before I was of no use to her "Thankfully" friends and Fairview were able to walk her through the steps needed to make decisions. I was told that the staff would be accommodating for this service and it's traditions, it was a bit out of the norm with a few hundred people attending coming from far and wide to pay their respects. I felt the need to go and visit the other day for the first time since the funeral and not remembering exactly where he was placed that day had to go to the office and have him located. The office manager and I spoke and was able to find the name but no information, the account was apparently in the "executors" name which I did not have so we had to do try and figure it out for a few minutes. She was patient and I was confused, then it "clicked" she remembered which funeral it was she "had attended it that particular day" and even drove me to the sight herself. After speaking for a few minutes she offered to pick me up and bring me back to the office when I was done but chose to walk instead and then she turned and gave me an unexpected hug before she left. The grounds are clean, appear to be well kept and there is a Methodist church within walking distance.
