The Decatur Cemetery is the oldest known publicly owned burial ground in metro Atlanta, believed to predate the city's 1823 incorporation. Rich and poor, free and slave, and yes, quite a few CSA soldiers laid to rest here. Most of the walkways are easily walkable but some are not. If you're mobility challenged, there is still quite a lot that is accessible. Military veterans, legislators, congressmen, authors and judges. Even one of the delegates to the Secession Convention. This is well worth your time to visit. Please be respectful as this is an active cemetery and there are people here encountering their own personal losses. You can drive your car in and park to the side of the road, considerately. I rode my bike through the paths which was peaceful. It's also a nice place to watch the sun set. There's a few geocaches here if you're into that. Obviously, there's super old historical graves as well. Anyway, if you like Oakland Cemetery, you should check the Decatur Cemetery out.

After making some adjustments to my bill, it appears the bill for the higher amount was submitted to the insurance company resulting in an overpayment of 2115.00. I have made every attempt to get them to rectify this oversight simply to be told we are still waiting. It is now Nov 18th, the funeral was three months ago. Be sure to check your paperwork. If I had not been diligent in making sure the numbers were right, I never would have known, and I doubt they would have mentioned this.

This was hard, but the lovely couple at Plummer Funeral Home were not only accommodating but just regular folk. They were understanding of my loss and had spoke to my parent before they passed, as they wanted to be certain everything was as they planned. They were able to send faxes and provide me with all that needed for the future probate court needs. They were also not what I expected in a funeral home, they were actually homey. I felt like I was being assisted by people who respected my loss but could have been family. Thank you Plummer Funeral Home for being the least stressful part of a challenging time. This is one of the random cool little things in the Decatur area. Back before this property was…read moreeven Avondale Mall, it was the Crowley family farm, complete with family cemetery. When the property was sold, the mall developers were ordered to leave the cemetery alone. However, as part of the grading process, about ten-twelve feet or so of earth was removed, leaving a weird little building with the actual gravesites on top. You need a key to access the actual graves, but it's cool to point out to people who don't know about it. Five stars for an honest to god graveyard in a Wal-Mart parking lot. EDIT TO ADD: If you're in the Wal-Mart parking lot, drive as far away from Columbia as possible until you get to the edge of the lot. Follow it around until you're practically behind the Napa and the mausoleum should be right in front of you, hidden behind some trees.
