So I took my two year old daughter to All Fired Up. The owner, Carla, is a sweetheart and very helpful. She helped me pick out two projects for my daughter and we got right to work. Easy to get to location, free parking, prices are reasonable, clean & bright store, and the store even offers duck food (for a $1 donation) so the kids can feed the ducks after they paint! The staff is helpful and friendly and they have a variety of ceramics to choose from to paint. They also have options for painting canvases and creating glass art, which I haven't tried yet. I like the new location, which now has a space in the back with booths, etc for a quieter experience or for a group that needs a little more space to work. The only thing that threw me off was that there are a few different spots that have the ceramic options to paint, but they are on opposite side of the room, etc. So after browsing & selecting an item to paint, I happened to see another display on the other wall with items to choose from, but didn't notice them until after the fact. It would be a little easier to see all of my options in one area, but I also understand that people need the space to browse without being too crowded. I like being able to do something "artistic" without having a plan or following instructions. It might not always look the best, but I always have fun doing it!

On the night of the class, we made our mugs out of clay, then returned on a later day to paint and glaze them. When I went back to paint mine, the customer service was top notch again! There were so many different glazes to choose from, and the instructor explained which one would work best for my project and how different it could look after firing. When it was time to pick up my mug, it was bubble wrapped and placed in a bag with care instructions. Definitely 5 out of 5 stars! The art cafe mentions it's better to make reservations so we did about a week or two in advance. A table was set up when we got there but there were only 2-3 families in there when we were there. I can imagine it'd get a lot busier on a rainy day though, so I wouldn't risk not calling ahead. I think the charge for each person was $8, plus the price of your piece. I had seen some people say they thought it was a pricy activity, and without any prices listed online I was a little anxious about how much it could end up costing. When you get checked it you're told to pick a ceramic piece off one of the shelves, and there was so much to look at. They really do have so much; big pieces, small pieces, bowls, plates, mugs, figures, ornaments, decor pieces, etc. The smaller pieces can be pretty cheap, I think the small bowls me and my daughter picked were around $10, but most definitely under $15. My son picked out a little race car and that was was probably around $15. But I saw much larger pieces that were $30+. So this can most definitely be a cheaper activity if you keep is small and I think the $8 fee for supplies, glazing and firing your pieces is perfectly reasonable. After you pick your pieces you can pick your colors off a chart on the wall that shows what the colors look like once the whole process is done. This was a fun way to spend an hour or so, and I love the little bowl I made. The staff was friendly and checked in on us frequently. I was able to get a color refill at one point. They give you the pick up information on your receipt, the turn around time was about three days and I'm pretty sure I saw it mentioned on their site that they'll pack and ship it to your home if you won't be around long enough to pick it up. We will most definitely be back next summer, I can see this being a great yearly tradition!

Our class turned out to be small, which is probably a good thing. There is only one sink so clean up could take a while with a large class. It's a bit pricy but what isn't these days. Our instructor is super nice and very patient. We have no experience so we need lots of instruction. He's kind and gentle in the ways he instructs. He doesn't make you feel bad when you totally mess up. He's also good at giving you encouragement along the way. The first class was all about form and how to work the wheel and clay.
