The outside menu and the change of name, The Plough rather than Ye Olde Plough House Inn, meant that as I waited for them to open (I was a tad early) my mind was imagining a charming old pub that had been tragically modernised and gastrofied. Thankfully my dark thoughts were far off the mark!
The pub looked so nice, the barmaid was so helpful and their beers were in such good condition (from Doom Bar, Tribute and Betty Stogs I had the last two and was much impressed) that my concern was soon alleviated. While they obviously set their stall by their food, those hoping to have a good pint in a proper Cornish country pub with a roaring fire should not be disappointed!
I can forgive the minor name change. Its better than the other way round where pubs deliberately add the ye olde in an attempt to be more olde! read more
