Omer, the project manager, was terrific and dropped by regularly to ensure everything was running smoothly, and answer any questions we had. Pedro, Bernardo and their team were great. They always arrived on time (at 7:30 one morning when the cabinets were scheduled to arrive), meticulously cleaned up everyday and executed the project with skilled perfection. While awaiting closing on our new house we worked with Melissa and the team at SR to determine that…read morethe changes we wanted to make (close up an open living room with French doors to create a study and take down a pony wall separating the kitchen and family rooms) were possible and they could meet us at the house right after closing to give us a proper estimate. They committed to starting the project right away so that the work would be done before we moved in several days later. As promised, once closing day came an estimator for SR was at the house within an hour of me receiving the keys and was able to take specific measurements and pictures. A couple of hours later we had a detailed quote and agreed to move forward. They said they would be there 7am the next morning. Little did I know they would show up with a small Army to make good on their promise to have the work done before we moved in. The team moved quickly and efficiently. I exchanged numbers with the foreman so that they could easily text any questions. The team was very professional - worked diligently and most importantly they took the time to explain what they were doing and gave me options and recommendations for solutions to challenges that arose. The team consisted of many specialized skills that were brought in when needed. They did an excellent job coordinating who was needed when and made sure no time was wasted. Trim specialists were brought in to tie into the existing trim in the former living room and a hardwood flooring specialist was brought in to tie into the existing floors for where the pony wall once stood. It seemed like everyone on the team enjoyed working there and with each other and they all had direct access to the owner Sam to keep him up to speed and make sure I was happy with the work. I appreciated being able to check in with Sam a couple of times and he went out of his way to make sure I was happy with the solutions his team came up with. At the end of the day the team worked long days to create a much more usable house for us and meet their promise of finishing their work by the time we moved in. Their work has transformed the house for us and had made it so much more usable. As we settle in (and save up some more $$) we can't wait to have Sam and his team at SR transform other parts of the house for us!!

We have hired SR to do many things in our house - flooring, bathroom remodeling, garage dry wall…read morerepairs, etc . Their initial quote is always competitive, however, as the work makes progress, you will find many things that were not included in the original estimate. Therefore, if you're not knowledgeable enough, your final quote might end up being much higher than the initial estimate. For example: we paid almost 10K+ to remodel one room and they left one wall unfinished because they said it was not included (we thought it was). So make sure you have all the nitty gritty details written down in your estimate to avoid confusion later. Also, their work hasn't stood the test of time. We noticed many things have started to fall apart not too long after the work was completed - example : our LVP is peeling off in low traffic areas, leakage under the shower door and under sink, multiple door hinges have already broken, the floor has uneven spots despite paying extra to flatten it, etc. The work looks nice in the beginning but after a while you'll start noticing where they made compromises to make it "affordable". In terms of communication, they are pretty responsive. We haven't had major issues with Alexa, Sam, Camilo, Dan other than occasional misalignment between everyone.

I had to follow up to request an update on the quote which is when he responded: The way I see it it will cost a bunch of money and I'm not sure you are willing to have that conversation. Am I wrong? How can you negotiate without providing a quote? Poor customer experience to say the least. Contractors need to understand our time is just as valuable as yours and that customer experience matters as much, if not more, than anything else. Customers can handle it if the contractor is not interested in the job. It's rudeness we object to.

Please double check their job accomplishment. We paid to paint the doors and frames Burt they only painted the frames on the outside not the inside and not the doors. We paid for two coats of paint but they only painted once. We requested a water leak in the toilet to be fixed and they changed some parts but the leak is still present. I was also concerned that the first few hours of the day would be consumed with assessing the work and purchasing materials, so I'd be paying for time when no work would be happening - and I didn't know how efficient the handyman would be with his time, as he was essentially getting paid by the hour. As soon as the handyman arrived, he assessed the doorway and discussed options with us. He understood exactly what was (and was not) possible and gave us a realistic estimate for how long the work would take. As soon as we decided on the path forward, he set off to Home Depot with my husband to purchase materials. One hour later, he was hard at work and - with the exception of a quick lunch - he worked busily all day. He did excellent work and definitely didn't waste any time. The thing that I appreciated most is that he told us from the start that he wouldn't be able to complete the work in a single day, so he set realistic expectations for us. He actually completed more work than he had originally thought possible on the first day, leaving minimal work remaining for the second day, and he used the extra time to take care of some other tasks around the house. Even at 1.5 days of labor, the overall cost for the doorway + other work was less than all of the other quotes that I had received and the quality was excellent.

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience with Ted and would not recommend him due to his lack of professionalism. First of all, we had to reschedule my walk through 4 different times. This should have been my first clue to move on with other handymen I researched, but I tried to give Ted a chance. He actually offered to do my walk through free of charge because of the scheduling issues, so I moved forward with it. After the walk through, I was issued an estimate, which was reasonably priced. I decided that I would hire a smaller, independent contractor to some immediate small projects around the house before my family arrived (hang a ceiling fan, mirror, and flood light), and hire Ted and his company to complete larger projects once I had some more money saved (build out a few closets, hang some cabinets, repair a porch roof, and repair some doors). When I thanked him for the estimate and told him of my plans, he went off, and my experience quickly took a nosedive. He rambled on and on about how I wasted his time (even though I explicitly told him I would hire him at a later date for the larger projects) and then he made a biased statement that was offensive and unprofessional about working with customers in Southeast D.C. When I mentioned to him that I thought his comment was racially and social-economically charged and wasn't appreciated, he flipped out. I told him I would share an honest review of my experience, including his racially charged comment, and he threatened legal action against me, which isn't even possible. This was all such an unfortunate experience, but I appreciate him showing me who he was. If you are a person of color, ally, or someone who cares about how the people you hire treat others, I would not bother working with him and his company. If he will speak this way to a customer's face, I can only imagine how he speaks in private. Spend your money where you are celebrated not tolerated!

It was a full gut -- complete renovation with new everything: lighting, heated flooring, vanity, tub with handheld shower, and more. They were exceptionally knowledgeable, courteous, and accommodating. To prevent the family room from getting dirty, they covered the floors and furniture in the entire family room. They always came on time and were incredibly diligent in their work. What I especially liked about AVC Home Improvement is that they are the ones who are actually do all the work. They are not a company who contract out their work. We had additional requests during the renovation of our full bathroom: adding lighting for the tub/shower area, installing grab bars and heated flooring. AVC didn't hesitate to accommodate our requests. They also installed a new utility room sink for the washing machine, and relocated the washing machine so that it is now next to the dryer. That makes it so much easier for us. Their recommendations for the electrician and countertop people were also exceptional. I would not hesitate to use ACV Home Improvement for any future renovations, and happily recommend their services to others.

We converted two rooms plus a hallway into a master suite as well as split two large upstairs rooms into three. We had structural concerns and lots of logistics to work out and I wouldn't trust anyone other than Mike to draw up the plans to make sure everything is safe and up to code. Al oversaw the projects and was in constant communication with us and regularly was on site to make sure everything was going smoothly. If anything wasn't 100% correct or what we had discussed, he would make sure it was remedied. Big shout out to Franz who even showed up to work the day after his wife had a baby! The M3 team worked late days and on weekends (with our consent) to meet their deadlines, even when the county held them up with permitting issues they still worked hard to finish within our timeframe. We even made major changes to our plans after construction had begun and they were able to pivot and help us get more square footage for the upstairs bedrooms. There were also numerous curveballs that they handled with ease (ya never know what you'll get with an old house). This was our first time doing any sort of large project and the team at M3 gave us plenty of guidance and support to make sure the finished product exceeded our expectations.
