Got a vegan bowl which was supposed to come with sweet potato. The cashier checked my food when it was done before she handed it to me. I get back to the office and realize there's no sweet potato. I go back to let them know I don't think this is my order. The cook says they're out of sweet potato but offers to give me extra of the other ingredients, and then says, 'Or you can wait 3 mins for sweet potatoes.' SoOOoo... y'all did have sweet potatoes the whole time but didn't bother cooking more until someone said anything... and on top of that didn't lead with saying that when I came back OR tell me when you handed me my food. On top of that, it just tastes like a bunch of mixed veggies sprinkled with garlic and oil- no hint of pesto. Probably most definitely should've not came here. Plenty is a brand new hipster lunch spot located in Uptown Oakland. The decor is simple and adorable, and the service staff are wonderful. They have a small-ish menu which include lunch specials, bowls, salads and open-faced sandwiches. I ordered the brown rice bowl with braised tofu ($11 + $3 for tofu) and loved it. All the ingredients were super fresh and my egg was poached to absolute perfection. The bowl pretty much tasted like an elevated vegetarian bibimbap. I also sampled the chocolate creme brulee donut which was sinfully good. The pastry was the perfect texture of soft and chewy and the cream was rich without being too sweet or overwhelming. I might recommend getting the non-chocolate covered donut next time because all I tasted was the chocolate, and none of the creme brulee. Overall I would definitely be back for more of their bowls and pastries, although I did take off a star because this place is a little pricey. I paid around $11 for my bowl and had to add $3 just to get some tofu added to it. :( all in all though, I definitely would be back to this tasty, healthy little spot. read more

Was in the neighborhood looking for something tasty, this place was well worth checking out. My friend had the avocado and poached egg tartine and I tried the rice noodle bowl. We also had the mashed potatoes, cookies and a creme brulee bombolino because why not! Lunch was tasty and light, super fresh (Berkeley bowl ingredients!). Pastries and coffee hit the spot. Definitely gonna come back to try more, wish this place was in sf! read more

Great healthy food. The smoked salmon toast is amazing. Good Thai ice tea as well. Easy to pass by the spot and maybe not notice from the outside. But everything is great and will keep coming back. So I've only had this place twice but it has exceeded expectations both times! I had the chicken soup (which didn't look like the photo on the online menu) but it was sooo yummy! They add a little spicy something in it. Not too spicy but perfect. I also tried the bbq brisket sandwich and WOW I was not expecting it to be that good. We paid 17 bucks for two salad. One salad (furikake)requested no sprouts. That salad was half the volume of the sesame chicken salad. This was thru door dash. I dipped in here today to pick up lunch for me and my boss, just as all of downtown Oakland seemed to have the same idea. The place was packed - every seat taken and I walked in at the tail end of a line of at least 8 people. Given that I was watching them get slammed in real time I have to say it couldn't have gone smoother. There are only two people in that kitchen - you can literally see them hustle. There's only one person running the floor, manning the register, handling take out orders, running plates and making pour over coffee. I've worked in restaurants. I thought about coming back later, but I stayed and I'm not mad I did. The food is awesome, the people are nice, the salads are speedy but worth it with generous portions and amazing flavors. A good addition to the Frank Ogawa/ San Pablo corridor, which has a dearth of healthy food. While parking can be a pain, this location is just about a 5-10 minute walk from the 19th street BART. The food is definitely on the healthier side, but is still tasty. The portions are sufficiently large so you do feel like you're getting value for the spend--bowls can easily be $15 once you've included all the additions, taxes, etc. Small-ish place to sit and eat inside, so it works better as a take-away spot. read more

Picked up a Cumin pork bowl last week. They're open during Covid and the dish was good. The pork was flavorful and cooked well, not too much fat. Overall, I would probably get it again but wish the dressing had a bit more flavor. Looking forward to trying their other offerings. read more

I like this place in general- the food is quite good and they're friendly here. But they charge $7.50 for one of those bottles of Raw Juicery juices, expensive. This is such a great local cafe! When I first discovered it, I was obsessed with their vegan bowl and got it three times in a row. The broccoli, red peppers, and sweet potato taste freshly cooked, served warm on the bed of mixed greens, kale, and quinoa. I never liked grilled veggies on cold salad before, and I also normally don't use dressing on my salads. But I love the warm veggies on the greens and the nicely balanced dressing. Every time I eat this dish, it feels like it's so good for me, almost like I'm giving my insides a hug or something. The spousal unit loves the pepper chicken farro. I've also tried the rice noodles and crunchy salad (lots of nuts, but good thing there's no such thing as too many nuts). Both were delicious. The baked goods are so good! If you're considering the brownies, don't think twice. Go for it. They're so good, fudgy and soft. They don't always have them, but their blueberry muffins are amazing. I had a scone once, and it was yummy. Their cookies are good too, but I always get lured by their brownies. We also recently went there for brunch and tried their toasts. The spouse's avocado with poached egg toast was really good, and my chicken andouille sausage toast was too (if you don't like mustard though, ask them to use less or hold it). I often take my food to go, but when we've eaten there, it's been great. They have nice wooden tables with the classic cafe self-seating style. But they bring the utensil and napkins to you and are very gracious. You can tell they really take pride in providing the neighborhood with a place to get delicious, wholesome food. I'd describe the crowd as typical Oakland eclectic. Today when we were there, the people sitting closest to us were an older lady and maybe a granddaughter. Two guys on bikes stopped by for coffee. And a crowd of women who just came from a yoga class walked in for lunch. read more

Potential but they had one job to do with my avocado toast and poached egg and the egg was undercooked with runny whites. Poached egg is hard whites soft yolk. I was the only customer there. The menu has no prices and i was told the wrong pirce. The guy working was rude. I asked for salt and pepper and he said it was already salted a peppered, ya buddy so is every other meal at every other restaurant. You salted the inside of my egg? Really? You could tell he was salty as he got it for me. He was also rude to a guy that came in and was lost and didn't speak English well. It's sad 1 employee can ruin the experience. Plenty was a little hard to find because they don't have a large sign outside. You have to look through the windows to see the "Plenty" logo painted on a wall. I ordered the vegan bowl and it was fantastic. I really like that their vegan dish has a focus on vegetables, with perfectly roasted Brussels sprouts, zucchini squash, sweet potatoes and raw kale, carrots, and lettuce. The marinated onions were a really nice, mild and tasty touch. I tried not to eat the black beans because they were undercooked. Undercooked beans can cause digestive issues so this is something they should improve. But I'll be back for the bowl again. I would love it if they had a vegan option for a salad but the bowl is so good, I will probably just order it again. read more

Very disappointing. Based on the high score on yelp, I decided to grab a salad there for lunch. Cobb-style salad with chicken cost $20!! But for this money you receive cold chicken and cold eggs. Chicken is grilled with skin in some sauce and feels very greasy, same with the salad dressing - it is very heavy. Instead of freshness and lightness that you would expect from a salad, you just get a heartburn. Not recommended. read more

I love when I find a new food spot near my house. Plenty was so good! My colleagues have been raving about it and I am happy I finally went to try then out today. I never had a chance to try this place until I went on maternity leave and was home during the week days! I love their menu- salads, sandwiches, coffee, and of course the cookies! The portions of the salads and bowls are generous. There are a few tables inside to sit and enjoy your meal there, or you can get it to go. Someone (maybe the owner?) told me that they are now staying open until 8pm every week night so that neighborhood residents get a chance to try their yummy food, too. I was expecting overpriced salad place but honestly I didn't feel ripped off and it was much better than I was expecting. I am super basic so I got the avocado toast of course. It comes with poached egg and a good amount of vegetables so you feel very healthy. The bread is super great and toasty - I think it comes from Acme. I don't normally enjoy hollandaise sauce but this was wasn't overly rich and didn't feel like it was coating my arteries with life-threatening amounts of fat and cholesterol. It was actually super filling and I felt totally satisfied for lunch. Certainly an excellent option for healthy lunch that doesn't leave you wanting. read more

I never met an avocado toast I did not love... that is until I came to Plenty. The avocado slime...err I mean spread had a terrible consistency, like it had been liquified. Avocado is supposed to be a bit chunky in texture to make sure it stays on top of the toast. This stuff reminded me of the fake guac from Trader Joe's, the one that's only 10 calories BECAUSE IT'S FAKE!! Also, the spread was starting to brown so they overcompensated with lime juice. Avocado is supposed to be bright green and you don't have to put much on it if it's fresh. A little salt goes a long way. Lastly, the poached egg. It was a halfway hard boiled egg. And the orange snot they threw on top trying to pass as hollandaise? Awful. The only thing that was good was the bread because my guess is they buy it at Acme or Firebrand. I wish I could bump this business up to at least 3 stars but the server was hostile and rude. The woman who helped me had the best RBF I've ever seen. Hard pass on this place. I'm taking my $16 elsewhere next time and overpaying for avocado toast that I at least enjoy. read more

The last time I went to plenty was about a month or two ago. I ordered a salad and was waiting outside for my order when I saw about 4 people eating inside. I asked the man who helped me with my order and said to him that Indoor dining was not open yet- why are there people sitting inside? He responded by saying, "those are my friends". I just think it was very weird of a response by him implying his friends had special privileges to sit inside during a pandemic when indoor dining was not permitted then. (And still is not permitted.) Because I couldn't wait inside due to COVID, I waited outside as I LITERALLY saw people enjoying their meal inside, against county orders. Again, I was just taken aback by that experience. In all, I enjoyed my meal I took to go. It was too big for me to finish and was super tasty. Just noticed this new local joint so stopped in before closing. Menu looks great and the baked goods looked too tempting to resist. Grabbed a Chinese chicken sesame salad to go and YUM! Huge salad with almost half an Asian pear on top ready in just minutes. Delicious dressing. Fresh ingredients. Grabbed a cookie too so can't wait to try that. I really wanted to like this place because of the healthy options, as well as pastries and coffee! Unfortunately, I don't think they have quite gotten their groove yet. I ordered two rice bowls with chicken to-go. They were both missing chicken and once was missing an egg. I never asked for no egg and I walked away wondering if I had ordered incorrectly. When I got back to the office very hungry and opened up my bowl, there was no chicken as I had requested. To add insult to injury, there were a couple of shreds of chicken in there accidentally. My friend's salad (the third dish ordered) DID have chicken, but the chicken had bones. The baked goods were great. I think that the young lady taking orders was either not listening or didn't understand that I wanted to add chicken....but the egg thing was random. Hope they work out the kinks. read more

Their tartines are very saucy, which I enjoy, but I suspect would not keep well if not eaten immediately.
