This is such an interesting theater-I've never attended a play in such an intimate setting where every inch of space is used. It was borderline claustrophobic, but they did a nice job with the room they had, so it felt ok as long as I stayed in my seat. I loved how interactive the actors are before the play, during intermission and then after the show. They are the folks handling the concessions as well as doing the pre-show entertainment. It's definitely a small group production where everyone participates. This was the weekend hangout for most everyone in town-supporting the arts! read more

We had a very good time, despite selecting the worst possible seats in the theater. The fun was clean: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. The production was nicely done, well choreographed, fully utilizing the available space. They did a great job with the backdrops and seen changes. The acting was very good, both leads stayed within their vocal ranges, delivering solid performances. We loved the introduction to the intermission, when the cast appeared with a variety of frozen treats for purchase. My only criticism would be of the ongoing microphone pops. read more

What a great fun experience for all ages. We saw the Little Mermaid. The singing and dancing was excellent and on point. Everyone's performances were great but the scene (albeit brief) with the chef stole the show. It was over the top hilarious. What also really added to the performance was the video backdrop. It made it more immersive and also made scene changes very fast which kept the performance moving. When you also consider the fact that they do several completely different shows in a week it makes all of this even more incredible. read more

We love the playmill. We come every year to our cabin and see one, often two plays depending on what's playing. Our most fav was newsies- I wish they would bring it back and least fav was probably Tarzan-but it was still good. We are always sad when there is a show we want to see but it doesn't start until after our trip ends. I hope it is still a good experience when they move to the new location next year. I'm a little nervous about it because it is a favorite tradition to see a show and bigger isn't always better. I will update after the move. But seriously love the play mill. read more

Wow I can't say enough how wonderful this place was from the minute I picked up my tickets to the end of the show . The Entire house was so polite and very nice We saw Singing in the Rain it was Amazing I felt like I was at a Broadway theater.All the seats in this Theater are great I tried to get tickets for Tarzan the next day but they were sold out so don't wait trust me you will love it . I wish they had a special tip box for the performers so if you loved the show you could leave them a little something extra. We LOVE the playmill! They make it so fun for everyone in the family and the intimate atmosphere in the theatre makes it enjoyable no matter where you sit. We were a little bit worried about sitting on the side of the theatre but it really doesn't matter where you sit! Our kids loved going down at the beginning of the show and dancing with the actors. This is an outstanding little intimate gem I found for my family and I to do while visiting Yellowstone. We watched Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat play and we absolutely LOVED it especially my parents. My dad was smiling ear to ear the entire play. He usually sleeps through almost anything so to keep him awake the entire play says A LOT! The cast was absolutely phenomenal. Great singing voices. It was a pretty small theatre so you could see the cast up close and personal as they performed. The amount of dancing and work the cast did to execute this play made me tired watching them! I could tell they worked VERY HARD to give the best funny entertaining performance for the audience. The cast direct you to your seats in the beginning. They sang songs and got the audience involved on stage with them until the play started. During intermission the cast also sold DELICIOUS ice cream treats, fudge, popcorn, water, and merch. No need to get out of your seat as they bring everything to you. Seriously hats off to the cast and their hard work. HIGHLY recommend this place to bring your family and friends to. read more

Do yourself a favor and attend a performance at the Playmill Theater. We went on a Yellowstone vacation with our son and daughter-in-law at the end of June 2023. I found Playmill and immediately ordered tickets for Beauty and the Beast. It was a wonderful experience for all of us. We ranged in age from 79 to 7 and all of us enjoyed the show. I've never seen people with this much talent work this hard. Not only was Tarzan an incredible production with amazing actors and singers but the same people who started in the show showed us to our seats, sold snacks at intermission, and cleaned up after the show. Every person involved was so friendly and kind. They do a sing along/ song performance before the show starts and are all so good! I just happened to be in town to see Yellowstone national park but this was way better than I expected. I'm keeping my playbill because I know at least one if not all of these actors are going to be outrageously famous one day. Absolutely loved it! read more

Went and saw Annie get your Guns in West Yellowstone Mt. This is one of the finest plays that I have seen. The star is none other than the beautifully talented Sage Patchins. We have seen her many time in different venues thru the years. She had a voice than can fill a stadium yet touch you individually. Just incredibly talented young lady, I told the lil woman we will probably be seeing her in NYC someday, she is really that talented. The whole cast is very good , we highly recommend this play you will not be at all disappointed. I heard good reviews about the other 2 shows playing; little mermaid which we saw last year and it was great too and Newsies but we have not seen that one yet. read more

We stumbled on this adorable theater while looking for things to do in West Yellowstone on our summer vacation and it surprised us at every turn! From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted by friendly, smiling faces and then personally escorted to our seats. The pre show was engaging and as an added bonus, they even gave a shout out to our daughter who had just graduated high school, along with other special occasions in the audience. Next, the main show Tarzan began and it was AMAZING! The acting was spot on and the voices stellar (especially the ape mother and Jane). The costume design and energy level of the cast was incredible and we were amazed at the way they used every single inch of the stage. If this can be done in such a small space, we can't wait to see what they do with the new theater they're building in the future. I'm from Seattle and I've seen performances of Wicked in NY and Les Miserables and lemme tell you, the talent at this theatre is incredible. Went to the late show for the premiere of The Foreigner on the 24th. Oh my gosh, it was hilarious. The theater is in a very intimate setting in downtown West Yellowstone. That's the only way to describe it. The preshow with the different musical parts was over the top good. The cast and the singers were exceptional. I really didn't know what I was getting into, but found the place to be really enjoyable and well done. If I had any critique, the intermission, food delivery seemed to be a little bit of chaos. But, they figured it out, and seemed like everybody was happy. All the actors and performers were outside the theater thanking guests, and very appreciative. They also worked the front door and delivered the food during the intermission. Bravo. read more

Its funny that the actors also move the sets around, show you to your seats and sell snacks at intermission. they have a late show (8:30) so you can spend the day in Yellowstone then catch the show at night. or catch the 5:30 if you prefer. I have come up here several times over the past 35 years and they never disappoint! I wondered how they were ever going to do Les Miserables on the small stage. It was an unbelievably good production! We had the pleasure of seeing Luke Johnson (understudy) as Marius. It's unfortunate that everyone doesn't get to see this amazing young man! Congratulations to Roger and Heidi Merrill on the 50th year anniversary! I've been attending the playmill for about 49 of those years, and can say that last night's performance of "Fiddler on the Roof" was brilliant! Bravo! What a treasure! The extremely talented Playmill cast captured the essence of this beloved play, adapted it well to the small and intimate stage, and overachieved on delivering the magic of live theater. As a bonus, they threw in a few delightful surprises, e.g. the fantastic and frightening Fruma-Sarah in the black-lit dream sequence, nailing the bottle dance in the wedding scene, the tear-inducing train station scene with Hodel and Tevye, and generally taking the audience through the full spectrum of emotions. It was particularly fun to see the Bidwell's there this season, who contributed their experience and gravitas as Tevye and Golde. Incredible performances all around! Attending the Playmill was the highlight of our West Yellowstone visit this year. It is a gem of a theater, the cast is so talented and energetic -- definitely a "MUST-DO" West Yellowstone activity! I recently saw "The Little Mermaid" at the Playmill and it was fantastic! The Playmill is all about FAMILY and making you feel like you are important. Before the show begins, the actors/actresses perform pre-show songs and they go out of their way to make sure that you are having fun and smiling! They also sing happy birthday to people in the audience and they recognize anniversaries/special occasions! The Playmill is HIGH energy!
