We had the picadillos tacos and the carne asada tacos. They were delicious! Staff were very kind and welcoming as well. Highly recommend.

My family and I went to Taqueria Malverde after visiting Yellowstone National Park and were excited…read moreto get dinner that wasn't burgers or sandwiches. The Forbes Yellowstone book mentions it and the Yelp reviews were good, so we decided to give them a try. Taqueria Malverde is open until 9pm most if not all days of the week and they have people lined up outside their truck fight until closing time. Note that this place is a taco truck in West Yellowstone and so they only have outdoor seating and takeout. With that said, they have an extensive menu that is not only limited to tacos but also includes burritos, pozole, tamales, platos, and tortas. The workers all speak fluent Spanish and English. They also make their own fresh tortillas in house. We ordered two PLATO POLLO (CHICKEN) TAMALES ($13.99) and one PLATO CARNE ASADA ($19.99) to go. Note that they only have outdoor seating and the mosquitos are out in the evening. The PLATO TAMALES came with two tamales, but they were unfortunately tasteless and the chicken inside of them was dry. They really needed the salsa verde (or salsa rojo) to give them some taste. The rice and beans were good though. They were maybe 4 inches in length and so one plate can really only fill one person. For $13.99, the plate was pretty steep for what we got. The PLATO CARNE ASADA was slightly better, but not by much. The beef was tough, dry, and stringy and tasted more like jerky than carne asada. It came with 3 small flour tortillas, lettuce, tomato, grilled onion, grilled jalapeño, and avocado. Again, the rice and the beans were the highlight of the meal, although the vegetables tasted fresh. Service was good and we got our food within 15-20 minutes after ordering. So why the one star instead of maybe two or two and a half stars? They only gave us one plate of tamales, even though we paid for two plates. It wasn't until we got back to our hotel in Island Park that we realized we only had two out of three of our dishes. Maybe the plate had gotten left behind or maybe it was poor communication between the cashier and the served. Regardless, we spent $16 more with tax and tip than we received. Rule of thumb: If you go here, make sure to check your order before you leave the truck. Overall: 2/5 for food, 1/5 for service

Our server was very friendly and conversational and recommended some of their best meals. We went with the elk ravioli and lasagna. The ravioli was good but the lasagna was very oily which was a bit off-putting. For dessert, we ordered the huckleberry cheesecake which was disappointing given that it was just a regular cheesecake with a little bit of huckleberry sauce on top.

First of all, we were thrilled to see it was open, as so many of West Yellowstone's restaurants had already closed for the season. It was a real neighborhood kind of a place, and by that I mean totally unpretentious and without any of the foo-foo fanciness that pops up in resort towns now and again. Their menu was solid -and concentrated on burgers, sandwiches, steaks, local elk, bison and walleye, and Italian Pasta with a "Montana Twist". More on that soon. We started off with a complimentary basket of house baked bread that was so good it just about disappeared in ten minutes. I felt like having a beer, so checked out their beer list of local beers before choosing a Halo Huckleberry Hefe ($6) by Lewis and Clark Brewing of Helena, Montana. Huckleberry is a local specialty, and nearly every gift shop sold jam, jelly, honey, and candies made from it. We both love Italian food, so we zeroed in on those Italian Pasta with a Montana Twist specialties. My wife chose the Bolognese ($23.99) for "Elk and bison meat sauce tossed with rigatoni pasta and topped with shaved Parmesan cheese." I went with the Meatballs ($24.99) for "Elk and bison meatballs tossed with bucatini pasta and house-made marinara sauce". Wowie... were both dishes great. The Elk and Bison tasted pretty close to beef, and I have to say my meatballs were excellent. I tried a bite of the Rigatoni Bolognese and it was also excellent. The house made marinara was a standout. Our server Emily was a charmer and really enhanced our dining experience. Simply put, we loved Bullwinkles and thought a $57 dinner with a drink and great food is a very solid value.

You'll need to get here early to find out!! We both got pulled pork sandwiches with sauce on the side, and a small side to go. The spicy sauce is not habanero hot, but medium spicy, and very flavorful. The portion size was good, and the happiest part for me was that the cole slaw was on point. You know that cole slaw that you're gonna end up throwing away after a single bite because it's soggy or too vinegary? That ain't this! Crisp and lightly sweet, super fresh, and delicious. I was not disappointed! Hubby reports that the mac & cheese was good as well. Enter and line up to the left to order. Menu boards are on the wall so you can peruse what's not yet sold out while you're in line. The limited menu means they do a few good things really, really well. Indoor seating is a bit cramped, but clean. Service is quick and friendly. Can't ask for anything more from a barbecue joint than that! The number of reviews they've gotten on Yelp look like they outnumber those of any other restaurant in town. And while many of the business owners here seem to work together to support each other's efforts, this was the only restaurant suggestion I got without even asking. If the locals are saying, "Have you been there yet?" It's worth trying!

Also got side of beans which have some brisket mixed in, they were well seasoned and delicious. Coleslaw is buttermilk/mayo based, it was good and cold and crisp, also very yummy.
