Playa Paraiso is a wonderful beach. It offers massage, great beach chairs and lounges and the staff is amazingly accomodating.
However, I am writing today about a very negative experience I had at their restaurant with the manager,Mr. Enrrique Rubio. This man is verbally abusive, intimidating and down right unfit for the job. I have tried to connect with the administration above him thru the web site and they have not responded to any of my emails.
I will try to be as brief as possible.
I have bben going to Playa Paraiso twice a year for the last three. I have always felt welcomed and well treated, until this past week.
The beach has a restaurant/bar called Gourmet Cafe a place where I have always walked in to order drinks, food etc. Last week I walked in,approached the bartender and asked for a drink. He told me to go to the register, located by one of the entrances and place the order there. Finding his request unusual, I asked him why so much trouble to order a drink. He didnt explain. Nevertheless I walked to the register to order the drink when the manager,in an extremeley aggressive fashion came over and yield at me telling me to step outside because I was wet. He informed me that they dont allow people to walk in wet as this represents a potential danger to staff and guests alike. To me a very reasonable rule. What was unreasonable was his aggressive demeanor. I told him that I understood but to refrain form speking to me in such a fashion. He proceeded to move a few inches from my face to to scream at me that i could get the heck out if I didnt like it, that he had over 300 happy customers at the beach, that he didnt need my business. This man got so close to me that I thought he was going to hit me. He wouldnt calm down despite my attempts to reason with him.
He only stopped when a very professional and warm waiter by the name of Juan Giordani walked in and approcahed me. Mr. Giordani was tending to myself and a friend at the beach earlier in the day and I had an open account with him. I had not order the drink from him because he wasnt arround when I wanted it. This is a very busy place and the waiters work very hard. Juan is a gentleman who is quite the opposite from his boss. Thanks to Mr. Giordani, this man stopped his rageful discourse and I walked away.
Like Juan, the rest of the staff is very likeable. From Juan, to Margarita-the lady who tends the bahrooms and showers, to Lannys and Esteban-the people in charge of the rentals- to the multiple waiters and security guards......all are courteous and accomodating. However, Mr. Rubio is a disrespectful, angry, out of control, bully who should not be in the hospitality business.
He is so intimidating to the staff that noone I approached, noone was able to tell me how I could contact his superiors. It is my understanding that this man intimidates all staff that have to do with him.
If the administration cares to retain business, I recommend they replace this nasty man. read more
