So disappointed! I placed my order in the app and then went to pick it up within five minutes. The weather was cold too. The two bowls I ordered came out soupy looking, which I don't understand how... unless the base was premade and they just put the toppings in it. Which I don't mind because Playa Bowls are made fresh and have so many good things in them that it's an easy yes. We normally get the Tica Bowl with berries, acai and it is heavenly. It tastes like dessert but we don't add honey or nutella and it still feels like a treat. I do wish there were smaller bowls available so I could spend $5 on a kiddie sized bowl instead but not a complaint on the quality at all. These Playa Bowl shops have a very good thing going. They focus on healthy natural ingredients with fruit, plant-based nutritionals, cold pressed juices and specialty coffees. Their wall art is exceptionally beachy, with Daliesque images and dreamscapes all around. After a recent visit to my dentist, I was advised not to eat anything hot or hard for several hours. Smoothies seemed like the way to go. My Kowabunga (banana, strawberry,blueberry, coconut milk) was cool, smooth and delicious, and met all my dentist's restrictions. Happy with it, but for two things. 1. These babies are expensive, coming close to $10 for a small plastic cup. Hard to justify enjoying them on a regular basis. 2. They are super sweet from all the natural sugar in the fruit, and thus on the No Fly list for anyone with diabetes or similar condition. I try to avoid the sweetest fruits (orange, pineapple, banana) and use berries which are lower in sugar. Playa's menu makes that a little difficult unless you custom build your bowl or smoothie without those worst offenders. It takes time to figure that out. Don't get me wrong, their drinks are delicious, and generally good for all customers, but for those with dietary issues. They might put together a special menu to address this. A little less sweet might lead to a little longer life. Just sayin'. read more

I visit this location at least for 3 to 4 times a week, after the gym. My order is always ready for me immediately upon arriving and the staff are always friendly and willing to assist. My "go to" items are the Tide Bowl and the Dulce Smoothie with Nutella. But you can't go wrong with their extensive menu and options available. This location is very clean and well maintained. Their endless menu choices plus "create your own bowl" may leave your head spinning. The truth is, everything is made with fresh, quality ingredients but just know that the calories are high as well as the sugar content from the fruit. They do use many low sugar fruits but when you add nuts and nut butters to carbs and sugar, you have the perfect storm for fat storage. (And yes, this is true even though its natural sugars and not refined.) I consider Playa bowls a dessert and not something I would eat every day. That being said, the bowls are delicious and I too found myself rationalizing that it was better for me than ice cream because it has more nutrients. This location always delivers! I've tried their green bowls, chia pudding bowls, and smoothies. I liked the green bowls even though I'm normally not a kale person to be fair. The green bowls have pineapple and banana mixed in I believe, so this does add some sweetness to it. It just may not be right for everyone in comparison to the more popular açaí or pitaya. The chia pudding bowls are great. Even if you don't see yourself as a big fan of chia seeds on their own, they're very good mixed in here, in my opinion. They always decorate the bowls beautifully and fill them well. The smoothies are delicious too! I'm curious to try this locations açaí and pitaya bowls, and I'm sure they wouldn't disappoint either. The assortment of toppings and freshness of the fruit is excellent. I place my orders in advance, and when I speak to staff over the phone to make adjustments to my order, they're are helpful and thorough! Got the entire order wrong for 2 orders, not sure how. One order was a pitaya bowl with half acai, and instead they put half acai and half chia, so it isn't even a pitaya bowl anymore. Another order was a nutaya bowl, and they put half pitaya and half acai and blueberries, when there aren't even pitaya or blueberries in the nutaya bowl order. Everything was just wrong and it was takeout so we didn't check until we got home. It puts me off from going here again because there's one close by in Newtown that's better. read more
