The best game store in the area, because it is the only one. Pricing on MtG cards is insane, basically doubling the price for singles even though they say they do market price. Recently decided to build a deck with one commander that I could find as a single there; ended up paying $10 for a $5 market price, $6 for a $3, and other cards were similar. Even their sealed packs are $2 above msrg. The only good thing about this place is the commander nights, and only because of the other people that show up. Do not enter the bathroom, it will be gross. Only come here to play at a table and nothing else. Support your LGS but their pricing is insane, find a different one. read more

This store is the closest one to me but over the years has been borderline scammy with their pricing. My friend taught me Warhammer at this store and my friend had always told me that we buy something from the store after/before every game as a way of supporting the store allowing us to play. The first time I bought a set of those 36 tiny d6 dice, it costed me $25, which seemed high for Chessex but I didn't want to be that person. A few weeks later, I bought the same dice, just in a different color and I was told it was $32 all of a sudden; again not wanting to argue, I just paid it and didn't buy dice again. A few months ago, I came to this store to play Warhammer with a local and I was told I needed to pay for the table. Something I wasn't aware of since it wasn't present before and I hadn't played there in a while but it was okay. I confirmed with the employee before paying that I'm just paying for the table and not for each person and decided to buy a couple Pokemon booster packs to support the store again, besides just paying for the table. I was told the Booster Packs were a whopping $11 a piece, some others that I didn't purchase were $14; where I had been buying these same packs at other, similar sized stores for between $4-$7 a pack. Again, didn't want to argue and still wanted to support even though I was getting sick of this. The employee told me the total was $50 when after doing the math plus taxes, it came out to $32 which I explained to him. He said "Oh, there was another thing already in the system, let me fix that." After about 10 minutes, he reduced the total to about $40, still being higher than what I said, which he then replied with saying I had to now pay for each player, not just the table. I paid and played my game and left. I really get the feeling they just make up the prices and see what they can get away with. I for sure can go to another store and pay their prices, but I just really hate that through the multiple times of trying to support the store, I was clearly taken advantage of for my money. On a positive note, the store is always very clean and the other customers that come to the store are fairly nice. I've had a few rude encounters with one employee but that was years ago and I haven't seen them since. They don't do reservations at the store for the tables, so it is first come first serve and the prices for -each- player are still less than the difference of paying $32 for those Chessex dice and MSRP. I would suggest playing there and paying their fees but not supporting them through their products that they sell. read more

Came to check out their Pokemon league, since it was nearby some friends of mine and I was looking for other places to play. It's tucked into the corner of the shopping center by the Giant. Plenty of parking in their odd one-way parking lot. My visit was the first of what is hopefully a successful recovery of their Pokémon league that was stopped due to Covid. The owner Rick and the Professor (Macklin) are both very friendly and genuinely love the game. Rick does his best to carry a decent amount of the Pokemon line. Demand can outpace the supply though. No singles at this time. They carry tons of other supplies too and are supported by PTCI with game support, so you'll get your promo pack for attendance. The best place to keep up to date is their Facebook. They currently plan on rebuilding the player base every third Sunday of each month for now. Nothing overly competitive at this point, which is great for beginners and casual play. That may change some day. read more

I literally don't know how the customer service there could have been any more helpful. The gentleman who was sitting in the back and playing games, and came up to help me as I wandered aimlessly through the retail game section was super pleasant and extraordinarily knowledgeable. He told me all about the new Star Wars game that was coming out, how it was played, and what he particularly enjoys about the game. Then I was able to tell him what type of game I was looking for and pointed out several selections, heard my feedback, and narrowed it down to a couple of games that came with his highest recommendation. He had played so many of the games that he could speak from personal experience. I ended up getting a game that him and his wife like to play ( a two player card game), and decided to pick up a present topper of magic cards which he actually helped me choose as well based on some cursory information I had about the giftees magic playing style. Overall a great store! Lots of games to play, lots of games to buy, lots of room to play games in the back of the store, special tables to play games on the side, super friendly and helpful customer service. We were greeted when we entered, and when we asked for recommendations, the shopkeeper (maybe the owner?) asked a few questions about my daughter's friend and gave a handful of very thoughtful options for us at different price points. While I knew this shop existed, I only stopped in to pick up a board game once in a while or just to browse. It was only last month when I was introduced to Magic the Gathering. The first place where I thought of checking out cards was not the internet but this brick and mortar store. I never spoken a lot to the owner besides a simply greeting or asking small questions prior to my exposure to Magic, but when I asked Rick on starting Magic, I knew I was going to have a great experience here. He was extremely friendly and provided helpful advice about the game. I've even asked for strategies and clarification of rules when I was unsure. He was very knowledgeable not only on card games, but board games as well as I've seen him interact with other customers looking for other genre of tabletop games. If you think this was one time thing, it was not as I've seen him treat new players and regulars the way I've been treated on times when I've stopped by. As for the shop itself, its not large, but large enough to hold events (the shops along that side of the plaza are about the same size as well so it can't be helped). Walking in, you are greeted with shelves of boardgames. On the wall by the exit hangs display windows of rare and intriguing cards for purchases like art in a museum. It will definitely cause heads to turn whether you're interested in Magic or not. Basically, I really enjoy coming here. read more

This is definitely one of the best options in the area if you're looking for a gaming store. They always have a wide variety of products in stock, plus there's plenty of seating inside if you're interested in actually playing anything. Everyone who works there is friendly and knowledgeable, and it's a just pleasant environment in general. One important thing I'd mention is that the store is welcoming to women, which isn't always the case when it comes to this type of business. I'm at the store quite often, sometimes to browse but usually to play D&D, and I've never been made to feel like I don't belong there. I'd been meaning to check this place out for a while. The selection of games and such was pretty good, but the experience left a lot to be desired. The kid working here was neither helpful nor friendly (unless apparently you're a regular). He was perfectly friendly and conversational with some people who were clearly there regularly. When I asked him if he could point me to something I was looking for because I wasn't familiar with the store, his reaction was as though I was a moron who had asked the most difficult and annoying task of him. This seemed like a really cool store! I had no idea there was a game store so close to home and I was very excited to find it. My husband and I wandered in during a rare weekend with no kids. There were 3 or 4 shelves in the front portion of the store with tons of boxed games - lots of titles that I've seen mentioned in online forums and some that were completely new. After we had browsed about a bit a gentleman came over to chat with us about games. He was VERY knowledgeable and made a few great suggestions for us. Game prices were higher than you might find online; but not so much higher that it would prevent me from purchasing in person, ESPECIALLY because there was such a great personal touch. From what I understand, there are game demos periodically and there were long tables set up in the back where a group of guys was playing some card game. Maybe Pokemon CCG? There was a distinct... game dude odor when we walked in. It wasn't bad, but if you've ever been to a guy's dorm room you probably know what I'm talking about. Game dudes! Game ladies! Personal hygiene is important! The gentleman that spoke with us was very clean. I *think* that you can come in and demo games on your own, but I got distracted my the Love Letter packs they offered while the guy was chatting about it. Overall the store was really cool! Lots of collectable card games, minifigs (or whatever the game appropriate term is), very knowledgable staff, and the game dudes seemed cool, too! They helped a mom that came into the store with Pokemon questions. If I had more free time I would definitely come here more often. Our oldest is starting to be interested in table top games, though, so we're going to try and hit up a demo night soon! read more

Hidden away next to Giant - this game shop is very clean, bright and new. Lots of gaming space for card or tabletop games. They even have a console gaming area. The owners are really nice and don't give off that grouchy why are you bothering me Comic Book Guy attitude you get at that "other" game store in Rockville. I'll definitely be back. read more

I've been playing games at Play More Games for a little over two years now, almost their entire lifetime as a store. I've waited to do a proper review to give them time to grow both as a store and a community. Whether you're looking for D&D, board games, Magic: The Gathering, or a whole host of tabletop miniatures games, Play More Games really does have something for everyone. They do run D&D Adventurer's League games on Wednesday and Friday and support two tables each night. They also run board game nights which are currently Wednesday and Thursday. While Magic is their number one card game, they do run events and support Pokemon, Cardfight Vanguard, Star Wars Destiny, and others. The store isn't as large in size as some other local stores so they may not have a game currently in stock because their shelves are already pretty full. However, they're usually really quick to order something and if it's available it's usually there within a week. I know I've done this numerous times and it's never taken more than 7 calendar days for it to come in. So, whether you're a gaming veteran of many years or just getting into a hobby, I wholeheartedly recommend Play More Games for anyone in the area to begin a journey into gaming or continue it. read more

This store is the greatest! All the workers are super friendly and knowledgeable about all types of board games. Not only that, Rick (one of the owners) helped me to set up a surprise! Long story short, I ordered a gift off their website and Rick and I collaborated to "pretend" that my friend had "won" something from their store. Rick even went as far as to text him to inform him that he "won" a prize that he could pick up in store :) Overall, if you're looking to get a board game, come and support this awesome local business. Or if you're bored, just come in and play some (more) games and potentially find new ones to play! I met Rick while working together on something not related to this business. I had the pleasure of going by the store and seeing all that's offered. If you are not into board games or cards associated with the games, do yourself a favor and visit Ricks shop. I was amazed at the cards and their values. Im talking about game cards worth hundreds of thousand dollars depending on the condition, etc. When they are no longer under Covid restrictions, there's an area where folks meet and play games. That's pretty cool, This place is pretty cool, even for someone like myself who isn't familiar with a lot of the games. First visit when I came home for the holidays. It was a nice store with lots of table space and big game library. Definitely pricey on board games. I ended up buying a MTG single because they had some holiday deals going on. Singles discount was "roll a discount" where you roll two dice and get that percentage off. I nailed it with two 6's! Not sure how much I saved actually because I failed to ask how much the card was prior... but still a cool deal! read more

Great store...I enjoy how the store is set up, but this store is mostly for Magic The Gathering players. If you are a Magic player, you will love this store.....if you play anything else, you mostly likely feel out of play. I came here twice at the schedule time of year play for Pokémon TCG, and there were no players here both times. What can I say, Don and Rick's store is one of the best in the Montgomery County, MD area. It is new but filled with friendly faces, fun and a lot of choices board game wise. I have played at multiple venues for Magic and this is one of the most accepting and nicest. There is equal competition to some of the other stores in the MD area but Don and Rick unlike some directly focus on the customer and try to make sure that people are happy. 6 months old and this place is really taking off!!!!! Regional gamers and players have gotten rave reviews online and word on the street is intensifying. Don and Rick are just super nice guys who truly do GET IT! Easily one of the best in the county and statewide their popularity is growing. It feels like home and certain gaming nights it is packed. It has a family feel, but will really open its arms to new and returning players with courtesy and assistance. It's great to finally see a good game store in Gaithersburg. Selection of board games was a bit on the small side compared to other stores in the DC area, but the store is growing, and the games they do have are a nice assortment. Staff seemed friendly, and there's lots of space for gaming. There was one shelf dedicated to old toys like GI Joe; I hope this part of the business expands.
