If you're looking for topnotch work, craftsmanship and great follow-up, keep on looking... This company passed the litmus test and had references. We even had a frank discussion with Chris before signing on about how customer service and follow-up are key to generating steady business where the company and the customer both benefit if people just treat each other right. Our experience couldn't be further from their handshake and good word. Not only is our project now unfinished 4mo. out, Chris had a cheeky chuckle at the misfortune of our family and 1 & 4 yr. olds stubbing and cutting open toes due to his unfinished work. And that chuckle came months after trying to call/text/contact Chris' ignored/blocked calls. Even from trying to contact him from an unlisted number - screen and hung up all but once for him to laugh at our new home's misfortune. We haven't asked for anything above or beyond what he agreed to. Unfortunately, Chris is just another excuse machine with little/no regard for his customers - even when these family customers are supporting his family business. It's a shame to see great talent go to waste with this crew. If you plan on working with Chris and his firm, be sure to have another flooring company on backup or be handy enough yourself to finish the work at $1,000's of your own expense, time and disappointment. Unfortunately, Chris & Platte River Hardwoods is no different than many of the greater Denver area's ShamWow contractors. Give them a hard-pass and you'll be better off. read more

After three attempts over two months to do a good job, I am going to have to hire someone else to fix their sub quality work. Chatter from improper use of sanding machines. Saw dust and debris embedded in the finish. Brush and mop marks in an uneven finish. Drips in the finish. I have many pictures of the horrible work done by Chris. NWFA inspectors have agreed. I offered to have them refund my money within 30 days and I would not leave negative reviews. They declined. Complete waste of time and money. read more

Chris and his son refinished our hardwood on the main floor and replacEd the carpet with hardwood on our stairs. They did excellent work! They were punctual got to work right away and did what we asked. when there was a miscommunication about the stain color, Chris took care of it very professionally. Moving the fridge back and forth caused a small leak in the water line to the ice maker. after we discovered the leak, my husband called and sent pictures. Chris called back promptly and made an unscheduled visit the following morning to assess the damage. He took care of everything again very professionally. If you do have your floors re-finished... know that it's going to be a little inconvenient and you will probably want to be out of the house for a few days... but three days of mild inconvenience was well worth it after 14 years of wear. Platte River installed hard wood floors in our house several months ago. Chris is a very nice guy and we worked out a good deal on the project. Overall he did a good job based on the money we paid. I do have many concerns though that I want to leave on this review. Maybe leaving this review will get our remaining issues resolved. His answer is that we got a good deal so basically it is what it is. 1. We have several areas where stain didn't adhere or were missed 2. When they moved furniture back in the house they scratched some of the floors and Chris said he would come back and fix and never has. 3. They left multiple dents in walls with no repair. 3. We have multiple gaps between boards throughout the house. If your decision is all about price, he will be cheaper. Just know that you will get what you pay for and once it is complete, there really is no customer service or willingness to correct the problems. We had 3 neighbors wanting the same thing done. Based on his response to our requests they are no longer considering him to do the work. read more

Chris came across as genuine as could be about Platte River Hardwoods being a family business - until he hired someone else to do the work. Happy that he did because the guys that actually did the work were spectacular (hence the 2nd star) - unfortunately Chris Murray didn't pay them - claimed to be having money troubles. Even though I paid Platte River for work in full, I still had to hire the guys he sent to finish the work that I paid Platte River for - I ended up paying double for the final coat. Platte River installed beautiful hardwood floors at the house and Chris was helpful in getting the project rolling and making suggestions. Yet consistent with the other reviews he did not follow up once he was paid the balance. There were minor fixes with the floor needed that he did not get to and he would not return my calls or emails. I will need to find another flooring contractor to take care of the raised edges or holes where the filler was too thin. If you use him you may want to hold back $ until he has finished addressing the post-installation items, which was my error. read more

We loved Platte River Hardwood Floors, and the owner, Chris, was very professional to work with throughout our project. We were having hardwood laid in almost every room of our house (a massive undertaking) and Chris gave us a timeline for the product delivery, installation, time to set, etc. Chris stayed right on target and there were no unexpected delays or hidden costs. Chris has a keen eye for color and gave great guidance on a stain color that worked extremely well in our mountain home (our guests always compliment our stain color). Chris is a genuinely nice person who takes great pride in his work. He was reliable, dependable and very professional during all stages of our project. We were so pleased with Chris's work ethic and the results that we had him handle a couple of other projects. Chris replaced our worn out 2" baseboards with 4" baseboards stained to match our awesome hardwood floors. Those really added a pop to the room that we didn't expect. Finally, we commissioned Chris to build a dining room table with an epoxy river design. WOW! The table is solid, unique and absolutely gorgeous. We have nothing but great things to say about Chris (and his son, Mark, who works side by side with him). Chris is meticulous, organized, dependable, and stands by his work. Chris with Platte River was great to work with for me. I had some issues with payment through credit card but we worked through that. Chris is great at communication and I think that is something you have to make sure to do when taking on a project like hardwood floors. I appreciate his guidance on wood and stain colors also.
