I purchased clothing here and the next week took them back to resell since I was past the return date. Because I am older, I guess, the sales team was unfriendly and said none of my clothing was "Young" enough for their clientele. I told them all the items were on their sales floor 10 days ago...they didn't care. This is a serious bias against how someone looks - they do not look at the clothing with an unbiased eye. The selling experience is quite disappointing now. I brought in a tote's worth of summer and fall clothes, and they passed on basically all the clothing, just opting for a couple pop sockets, a tumbler, a couple ball caps, and a bracelet. 7 items, most NWT, and they offered me $6.22 for it. Felt like such a lowball offer, but I'm desperately trying to purge my apartment so admittedly I did take the offer. However, I would say your time is better spent selling at Clothes Mentor & Uptown Cheapskate, both just up the road on US-19 southbound side. Some of the sales associates are friendly but others are just rude. I got there right when they opened at 11am on a Sunday and the woman (dark curly hair with glasses) was rude. First off Ive been to every Plato's closet in Tampa and this is by far the cleanest and tidiest! They have some of the best selections of clothing! The employees were super nice as well! Will definitely be coming back to this location even though it's an hour out of my way it was well worth it! I brought in at least 20 items of clothing and when I talk to the girl at the front desk she told me it would take about 15-20 minutes. It was already 5:30 at night and she told me I had to come back that night to pick up any money and I explained that I could not do that and I she got an attitude with me. Literally 4 minutes later i got a text saying she was done. So when I went back the next day they did not accept any of my clothing. I knew she did this on purpose. My clothes are nicer than most of the clothes in there and bought from Forever 21 etc. It's too bad that any immature idiot can work there. I will not be going back. read more

Very unorganized. Not apt to problem solve or team work in order to run the store smoothly. Very unfortunate, this store has cute items but waiting in line for 25 minutes with 3 people in front of you is ridiculous. I recently went in there with a large bag of still in fashion clothing, all were in good shape and most were purchased from them originally less than a year ago - they passed on everything except for one item that they offered me less than a dollar for. Meanwhile there is clothing hanging throughout the store that has stains, holes or are frayed. I would rather shop at the new second store up the street - they offer fair prices for clothing and have a better selection. read more

I read some mixed reviews so I went and left 3 large contractor sized bags full with clothing, mostly teen girls and young woman's and almost new with styles ranging from basic to dress up and a lot of nice labels to. I gave them my information and went back to my van to wait. Less than 30 minutes later I get a text it's ready, I go in and they offer me less than $4.00 for 2 items saying the other items are out of style and to old. Little did she know a friend went with me, they went in after I dropped my stuff off. The lady only did a quick few minute ruffle, picked a few items and wrote it up. Also everything in the bags were folded when I took them in, only maybe 6 to 8 inches pulled out and just stuffed back in, not re-folded. I hope it just this store. They used to have great customer service and really friendly and helpful staff. Recently they have been short and seems like they genuinely dont want to actually help anyone. I work in retail myself and if you dont want to help people dont work in retail. They used to also allow selling clothes up until an hour before close but now stop three hours before the close... on a weekday? Tells me its posted on the door but how am I supposed to know that before i leave? Post it on your website and have better communication with your customers. Totally find you want to stop taking earlier in the day but do better than a sign on the door?? read more

This place has been great in the past and I don't mind if they don't choose my clothes to sell. I get it, they receive a lot of items. However, I feel that as a buyer you should give the seller the respect of going through their clothing and putting them back respectfully. While I was there, I watched the girl pick around in the bag, dump half the bag out, flair her hand around and than shove everything back in. She DIDN'T EVEN LOOK! When I walked up to the counter to pick up my items the note stated "not teen" which fine whatever, but I feel I was stereotyped the moment I walked in, since I had come from work. I also stood there for about 2 minutes (forever in guest service time, when I can see them standing there) before someone else came up to help me. Went here to give clothes I didn't wear mind you I do not live close to this Plato's closet I walk in and the lady already gives me an attitude she said it would be a 45 min wait so I bought a few things and left I came back an hour later assuming I would be picking up clothes they did not take and the lady told me "so unfortunately we didn't take any of your clothes because they are out of style" so I had left horrible customer service and such a waste of time only one lady in that entire store was nice. Overall I like this location. I've always been able to find something I want to buy when I stop in. The employees have always been friendly and I've been satisfied with the amount of money I have received from selling. My only real complaint is that the items I receive back from selling are never folded, just stuffed back into whatever container I bring in. read more

Every time I attempt to go to this place, I come out even more furious than the last. I just walked out and they only were going to take one shirt out of a bag full of plenty of newer name brand items. They say they only take stuff that is from the last 6 months but they obviously do not go through their current inventory. I see ratty, our of style, non-name-brand items EVERYWHERE. Also, if you are wanting to only buy items that are in style then why do you have a 40+ year old woman that has no style going through things...? Ok so I had read the reviews about selling here before going and the reviews made me nervous that I wasn't going to get any money... ok well those reviews are probably from people who brought outdated/ugly/not in style/dirty things or wanted more than they were being offered. ITS A CONSIGNMENT STORE people! They have to make money too. You are never going to be offered same price you paid for or half so please realize that. I brought in a box of clothes that I know are in style (F21, Vans, converse, velvet clothing, AE jeans, bodysuits from SHEIN, Nike shorts and etc) and there were only very few things they didn't buy which I expected because they were worn out and not in style so I told them they could donate those items. I made $108 on what they did buy which was what I listed above. Please be kind to the girls in there and don't be that rude customer screaming about what their offering you. Sometimes it's better than nothing. I will 100% be coming back here to sell, the next time I clean out my closet! Highly recommend :-) and yes I'm leaving this review on my own because I feel like it's needed since there are too many unnecessary and untruthful reviews on here. read more

FEMALES BEWARE. I'm sure it's not really anything to worry about but my girlfriend had noticed while changing in the dressing room that the cameras are positioned to where they can see all of the mirrors and the person changing in each dressing room. It made both of us really uncomfortable and neither of us are really sure how that's allowed. read more

I used to like this store many years ago. Now, not so much. It's a very hit or miss type of place, sometimes I would find a few decent things with the new tags still attached, other times there was nothing at all. The inventory is not that great considering how picky they are about buying clothes in the first place. Even when they did buy some of my things, they barely paid anything and you have to wait around a while for them to even look at your trade in items. Overall it seems like this store mostly targets more of a teenager crowd rather than a 20 something or professional wardrobe style. I will probably bring the clothes I want to sell to an actual consignment shop or donate them to a thrift store in the future. read more

My all time favorite place for accessories. Hand bags. Wallets. Shoes. Flip flops. Watches. Scarves and even clothes for this 51 year old, my husband always finds shorts, and my kids go every chance they get. I'm excited to see the remodel complete. Of all of their stores in the Tampa Bay Area, I fair up the best here. Largo absolutely sucks, (their employees are ok, it's just their selection is awful. Check their Instagram before you go there!!) st pete isn't much better and both Tampa stores are hit or miss. This store has the best selection of designer brands, ie. Michael Kors, Kate Spade, etc. got my favorite Michael Kors purse here. They tend to buy a good portion of my stuff I bring in, and what they offer seems fair, as opposed to just dumping in a donation bin and walking away empty handed. The selection is pretty decent. Tiny people like me often have a hard time finding clothes that fit us. There is usually a good selection of jeans in the 0-2 range, and good brands (American eagle, Holister, etc) and decently priced. Sometimes you have to sift through lots of stuff to find something nice. They periodically do clearance sales too. You can get some good deals that way. But Just like with anything secondhand, be sure to carefully inspect anything you buy. Some tears, stains, defects, etc get overlooked. This location never gives a hassle about returning anything, as long as you have the receipt. All in all I'd say they're average, but they're alright. read more

Terrible customer service. Ariel, the so called manager, has no patience for customers. They called and said I had money from the clothes my boyfriend dropped off. When he went back in they had no knowledge of the clothes he brought in or that there was money there waiting on him. This place is so backwards.... I brought in a bag of gently used clothes which included brand new Hollister shirts and shorts.. they took 6 out of the 20+ items that I brought in for $12. I'm not sure if that's their way of saying the clothes weren't "worthy" of putting on their racks but if that's the case, I actually bought some of the clothes that I brought in from them. I recently visited this store to sell 3 bags of clothing and noticed once I left that they had given me someone else's clothes to take home instead of the bags I brought of my own.
