This resale store is a great place to bring in your gentlly used items for some cash. Clothes have to be in good condition however. No stains, no odors, no rips, etc. you get my drift. Every location will have a list of what items they are looking to resell but most will take what's currently in style now. Just think of what the trends are right now and you should be good. They may or may not buy everything you bring in. If you bought a shirt for $50 at a retail store and Plato's Closet only offers you $2.. don't be mad. That's just how these resale stores work. You can also shop here too. You will notice that all the clothes, shoes , accessories here are previously owned and reasonably priced. Majority of the items sold here are geared towards the younger adults. Think high school to college. So with that in mind, these are the items that you should sell to Plato's Closet. I came with friends on a Monday to sell clothes and shop! The employees were friendly. They walked us through the selling process and opened fitting rooms for us. As far as selling goes, the process is pretty simple and only took around 45 minutes. They keep a list of all the items they're currently buying at the front of the store which is helpful. A warning for people with children, the music playing can sometimes be a little inappropriate. The store has a lot of inventory for sale. I didn't end up finding anything this time but I've had success with their jeans before. As far as pricing goes it's a little more expensive than Goodwill. I'll definitely be back to sell and shop again!! read more

I've been to a lot of Plato's Closets over the years and I have the best experience at this location, everytime I go. The owner Audrey is so polite and sweet! Everytime I come, I hear how she speaks to the customers. She is so cordial and patient. The employees follow her lead and are also very kind. I've been to others locations where it seems as though they didn't really go through all of my stuff after I took the time to bring it to them. That's not the case here. It's evident that they carefully went through all of it and I came with like 10 boxes of clothes too. I know sometimes people get upset because they don't take all their stuff, but I understand that it's not personal. It's more about how much space they have in the store, what items are in season and what they need. That being said. They have a great selection. You can tell they worked hard to make use of every inch of space of the store. I was able to buy my son a pair of Jordans at a great price. It's always funny reading the negative reviews because people get so upset that Plato's doesn't buy all of their clothes they bring in, and they complain about the poor customer service. They have tons of people bringing in SACKS full of clothes every single day, they can't buy everything all the time! It's about their inventory, nothing personal! As for customer service, it's usually always a bunch of young-ish people just chatting and joking amongst each other behind the desk, but it's a used clothing store not a high end department store. I personally look past it and just accept it as the way they roll. They always know the rules and communicate well when it's time to, so just ignore their sidebar convos and lax service style, and enjoy all the unique finds on the racks! I personally love this location the most because it has such a huge selection and is always extremely trendy compared to the other locations. brought in four or five large bags and some brand new shoes and after less than 20 minutes the buy was processed, with only 2 boxes of shoes taken for $10. i've worked at a similar store chain so i am aware of the buy process and profit margin; however, i don't see how it is humanly possible to go through probably 200 clothing items in 20 minutes... especially seeing the condition a lot of the clothes on the floor were in and the lack of variety. i have not had a good experience at this plato's, buying or shopping. read more

I am honestly very disappointed and disgusted at the employees that work here. Especially Ashley. I called in to see if they were able to buy my clothes since they are closing soon, the lady on the phone was very nice and I let them know how much I was bringing which was 2 bags and a medium container. She informed me that it would be fine. So the conversation on the phone was a very good experience. Yet when I got to the store as soon as I walked in with my 7 month old son. Ashley didn't greet me she looked very unhappy and was actually really rude. She asked if I had sold clothes there before and I told her no. Then she said again "you haven't sold at Plato's closet before?, but she spoke to me with an attitude in asking me that question. I responded by letting her know "yes I have sold but not at this specific location because I only sold in Virginia." She told me as courtesy to the buyers I should not show up after 8PM and that was the reason I called before going. I'm also upset because Ashley did not even look through most of my things. I folded clothes in a medium container and most of the clothes were still folded. The member then told me that she wasn't purchasing anything because they had high inventory yet a girl that came in with about the same amount after me they purchased more things from her. I've brought in some nice pieces of desired brands but am told they won't sell or aren't of style which isn't true. I see items in there for months that have stains, tears that look so outdated in fashion not a single soul is wearing it. They need to learn how to pick pieces better and the people that work there always seem to have an attitude or look like they hate their jobs, I recommend the one on east colonial they are much better and sell better pieces. I came in wearing my work uniform, clearly showing I just got off of work. I shopped around for 5 minutes and grabbed a few things I needed to try on. I kid you not I went to get a fitting room at 8:01 and the employee said " the fitting rooms close at 8.". Mind you, it's literally a minute past 8. Mean and unkind employees. The selection of clothing, shoes and accessories are good, but the customer service is so unwelcoming it's uncomfortable. The girl at the counter, I believe her name is Ashley, has been rude on more than one occasion. The first time she had an attitude and almost seemed bothered that we had even come in. I let it go and chalked it up to her just having a bad day. I've worked in customer service for 6 years so working with different personalities I know not to take things personal, life happens and everyone has a story. However, this second time, months maybe even a year later, she still has the same bothered attitude and even tossed my ID onto the counter instead of handing it back to me when I came to claim my bags. I was beyond pissed leaving this store. I've sold to Plato's locations before with no problem, but not this one. I dropped off my bag to sell, was told it'd take 10-15 minutes, so I browsed around the store to kill the time. It ended up being about an hour before they told me my clothes were ready for pickup, they had not even taken a single thing out of my bag and looked through anything, and said they weren't buying any today. It'd been nice to hear when I turned them in if they weren't even gonna go through them. Don't waste your time selling here, they are way to picky and waste your time. I came into platos closet on 11/26 to sell clothes. They told me I would be 10 15 minutes. I walked around for 20 minutes then asked again how much longer they told me another 15 min. Finally 50 minutes later they where finally done looking at my stuff. And they took nothing which is really frustrating. They always say they need certain things well they should advertise that. Came back and the girl who took my clothes said my purchase was complete. The next girl grabs my bag and hands it back to me. Saying that my items were in great condition, but we're older styles. Unbelievably rude staff. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because they had a good sale going on. While checking out, the girl (Syanne?) kept talking to the other girls working there and barely made eye contact. On top of the rude service, I stood at the counter for 5ish minutes before someone even acknowledged that I was there. Being alert and at least somewhat focused on your customer is how you're supposed to get people to shop there regularly. Tried selling clothes today for a third time, only this time I watched them look through my items. I swear the girl who looked through them just picked each item up for a second only to immediately put them back on the table. They do not check your items well and are so rude about how they choose things. Thy throw and stuff everything back into bags and toss them like it's trash. They have a script they tell people whenever they cannot take something which makes sense, but every time I go, I'm given the most sour and false act. There's a lot of personal talk and 'task completion vs. customer service focus' behind the register. When one of them decides to make eye contact, it's often followed by a "___ will take care of you in a minute" so they can continue talking with someone else or typing on the computer. I only come for the merchandise - not an experience. The Colonial Drive location has this one beat (hands down, every time) with manners, friendliness and willingness to service customers promptly. read more
