Just stopped in as I was in shopping center and haven't been in for awhile. None of the people working inside (behind counter or walking around) said "BOO" from the moment I walked in until I left. If I could leave 0 stars I would. This place is an absolute joke for selling clothes. We brought in 4 big trash bags of nice clothes (some that still had the tags on them). We left the place with 10 people on the waitlist ahead of us, so we expected to wait a couple hours for them to go through all of our stuff and the people infront of us. We were told our offer was ready not even 20 minutes later. They picked out 3 pieces of clothing from 4 full size trash bags of brand new clothes. Don't waste your time here. read more

I took my daughter and her friends to Plato's closet 7/29 late afternoon - while I was busy at another store around the corner. My daughter found some things she wanted to purchase so went to the cashier to pay. The cashiers stood there talking and ignored my daughter while she stood there for a good 5 mins. My daughter turned and started talking to her friends while she waited to be called up. No one called her or even greeted her so my daughter approached the larger cashier thinking she was helping my daughter as she was looking at my daughter. Turns out the smaller cashier who was not even looking at my daughter was going to ring my daughter up - They did not greet her or communicate a thing to her so she had no idea. The smaller cashier rolled her eyes at my daughter and passed a comment, to which the larger cashier rolled her eyes and said "I know right". The larger cashier finished ringing my daughter up and there were a heap of questions on the screen - My daughter who is so shy, timid and suffers with anxiety was so rattled that she didn't know what she was being asked on the screen. She said to the cashier "I don't know what it is asking" to which the cashier rolled her eyes again and said very snottily "WELL IF READ THE QUESTION THEN YOU WILL KNOW WHAT IT IS ASKING!" My daughter was in a complete state and having a panic attack at this point - that is why she couldn't read the questions. They cashier huffed and said "just hit accept!" My daughter was respectful while in the store - She hung up the clothes they tried on and put them back on the rack. She greeted the cashier and said thank you to which she was ignored. At no point did the staff greet the girls when they walked in or when they walked up to the counter or when they left! Customer service is non existent in that store! Your staff have serious attitudes. If they are not happy working there you either need to get staff that are happy to be there or management need to look at what is making their staff so miserable. I have had a similar experience there before except unlike my daughter I put everything down and walked out! I will not be back! Plenty or other places to spend my money! read more

I just love shopping at this location. It's always nicely stocked & organized. The employees are very helpful & the managers are professional and welcoming. I brought in some very nice & expensive clothes. Everything was neatly folded and clean. Some of them were from my 23 year old daughter and some were from me. Said my stuff was not for teens, but many of the items were. I looked around in the store and my clothes looked a 100 times better than what they have in the store. But the kicker is the girl put my clothes back in the basket and did not fold them back or paid attention to how I had them. They were all just stuffed back into my basket. I asked a question about jeans and it was funny that she said everything opposite of what my brand new with tags Abercrombie jeans were. Pretty sure 90's high rise jeans are in trend right now too. Worst customer service ever. Everyone behind the counter were teenagers who could not be bothered. I brought in 2 bags of clothes at 1:45 today and stood there for a solid 5 minutes after checking in before anyone acknowledged me. They took my bags and when I returned an hour later to pick up what they did not accept, the cashiers were extremely rude. My cashier appeared to be training someone and was also really rude to the trainee as well. This girl basically threw the cash at me trying to get me out the door as quickly as possible. This was my second time in. The first time I accompanied my daughter. Her experience was pleasant, the staff explained why they weren't taking certain items. (They actually bought a stretch sparkle homecoming dress I made for my daughter.) I brought in several pairs of jeans. a few pairs never worn. Levi's, American Eagle. 2 pairs of European wide leg pants, summer linen wide leg pants. Jesse took the Vera Bradley purse and skort from JC Penney, $4 for both. No explanation. I get if you have too many jeans or because it's summer you just aren't taking them but she said nothing. Don't bother going in to sell anything if you are over 40, they aren't interested. And they clearly don't care if you come back. They may have some trendy clothing but they don't have anything upscale. read more

For some reason I keep trying to give this place a chance. This is the WORST location you could go to. From the selection of clothes that have been there for years, to the impolite staff, here's a few of the reasons you should go somewhere else. This might just be me, but the price you get for selling clothes shouldn't depend on who looks at them correct? That doesn't seem to be the case at Plato's Closet McKinney. I can take the exact same bag of clothes in one day after another and depend on who sorts them, get drastically different offers for my clothes. Also don't bother folding your clothes. If they look presentable, an associate will be happy to make it look like garbage when they had it back to you. "Not taking items due to wear and tear?" Ok. Tell that to every other item you currently have on the floor. There are stained, ripped shirts, jeans and shoes everywhere on the men's side but for some reason my one tiny little stain on my perfectly good shoes can't seem to make it onto the floor. Makes sense. And what they do offer you is a complete rip off. 13 items, several shirts and two pairs of jeans, for 13.57. Rip off. Let's talk about the men's side. Old, outdated, stained clothing for sale. Let's look at the women's side. New, clean looking clothes presentable everywhere through the store. Maybe if they had some male opinions on what guys are wearing nowadays, they would have more of a market on the guys side. This store needs HELP. I've been meaning to make this review for probably 2 years now. But for some reason I've always boiled it down to people just having a bad day. No. The people are just unprofessional, and the clothes are just awful; black and white, plain as day. Will not be coming to this location anymore. This store is a SWEAT SHOP. I went to sell clothes. I have never done this before. I got there and they had 4 maybe 5 little girls working the counter, according to some "Karen" who decided to stick her nose into my business when I was expressing my opinion about how this operation works. They had picked about 5 items from my 2 bags and then was having issues with the computer so after I had already been standing around for an hour to get an estimate they wanted me to come back in 30 more minutes. So I wanted to know if the 5 items were worth coming back for to get maybe 10.00.?? So, I was frustrated because during this whole process none of the sales clerks were friendly nor did they let me know what I needed to do or what was exactly going on. So, I decided that I wanted to talk to the manager and get their number or when would the manager be there. One of the little girl working said she couldn't get me the number and no she didn't know when the manager would be in. She told me to leave a review, so that what I am doing. To the Karen who thought she would try to publicly shame me. She had no clue what my situation was with this store. She just heard me being frustrated and wanted to talk to a manager and then when the sales girl refused to give me any info on the manager, really??? Who wouldn't be upset. So, yes Karen maybe you can call that yelling at little girls in your mind. What I call it is sticking up for myself and not being dismissed by the rude staff. As soon as we enter the building a girl approached us. She said that they have limit their daily limit today. She also told me to come back tomorrow. She did not greet us when we entered the store with any type of courtesy. She did not thanked us for even visiting the store. This is really a shocker because I just spoke with a lady earlier on the phone just a couple hours ago. I believe this is very much so a case of discrimination. I will not recommend this place to my family or friends. And I will also tell my family member that told me about this place, to not come back. I love this store but they need customer service training in the worst way. They must not like their jobs very much. They seem to have a high turnover of staff but being rude must be a prerequisite. I've tried to sell them stuff twice. Good stuff- Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Adidas, brand name stuff. Once they weren't interested in an item because it was too worn. Has no stains, no pilling- it was perfect. I was able to walk 5 feet and pull 2 items from their racks that had stains yet there it was- for sale. Didn't care. Today, I had a nice spring Lilly Pulitzer dress and they didn't want it because it was more than a year old (like not a recent item in that particular line) Okay fine but I was able to, again, reach at least 5 items that I knew were introduced more than 1 year ago. I'm going to side with the person that said they must not really be paying attention. Someone does because they have good stuff, a lot. read more

What what?? A Plato's Closet off of University/380? I was in the area after a doctor's appointment and was shocked to run across this spot. It's my favorite thrift store, a location IN my area, and I didn't know about it? Apparently they just moved a month or so ago from a location off of El Dorado. Well, it was bustling and also full of clothes, and the usual excellent Plato's Closet selection. In case you don't know, they take name brands and pretty recent/hip clothes only. They will buy yours if you have good stuff, but you won't make that much money. Since I am pregnant I was only shopping for a purse and summer sandals, but I found exactly what I wanted and the service was great. Love that they're in the area now! read more

I went to this location with a hamper full of name brand and popular store items that I've literally just never worn, still has tags on it, a Rebecca Minkoff bag that was used once w/ the dust bag, brand new converse and adidas as well as others purses w the tags on it. I wasn't expecting much as I know what to expect & I just wanted to get rid of it as the clothes were taking up space and I was moving in 3 days. Tristyn was the girl who helped me, she was not very friendly when I walked in the door and honestly seemed pissed she had a customer. She told me it would be 30 minutes so I went to my car and while I waited I peaked a couple times to see what was going on. Once she finally put my hamper on the counter she literally did not look at any of the items. she was texting the entire time between "looking at my items" and ringing some guy up. She did make it look like she went through the items by taking them out very quickly, then putting them back in the basket messy. I get the text that my buy was ready and she tells me that they can't buy anything because it's in bad condition, had stains etc. When I got in my car I noticed how messy the basket was... my $250 purse was thrown at the bottom with the dust bag lost within the clothes, stuff hanging off, and just looked uncared for. Anyways, I went to clothes mentor the next day and got $60 for 4 of the items. I'm not mad because I didn't get any money from them, I wasn't expecting much & just needed them out of my way. It was the fact that she did not do her job, was too lazy to actually look through the basket, threw my items around and was texting the entire time. Also, It's not professional to be texting while you have a customer standing waiting to check out. I hope Tristyn has not done this to other customers, it's not cool at all. I made a yelp account to share my bad experience. I came here with my older sister today to shop and get rid of some clothes however, I do not believe employees were even looking through the bags I had handed them. The only item they took was the item NOT in the bag, claiming the rest were in kids sizes and for winter. ALTHOUGH, the only kids item was in XL and on top of the bag and the only "winter" item was a thin sweater ALSO on top. There were name brands in there such as champion which I don't believe she even saw because I'd assumed they would be looking for popular brands but I suppose they like shein better with the amount of low quality items on the racks. She did not mention why she didn't take my shoes which where vans and adidas which I believe would've sold and they were not childrens. I believe she assumed it was all kids because I am kind of small? Another complaint is that if you are above a size medium there is barely any clothing selection. Do not go here. After seeing all the bad reviews I decided to drive over an hour to Plato's Closet in McKinney anyways to take my 3 bags of name brand clothes and shoes that I had cleaned out from my closet. They close at 6pm and I got there to the store at 5:05pm. I said I had 3 bags of clothes and wanted to sell. They said they stop buying an hour before they close and said they couldn't accept them. I came into the store a week before the boot and coat event and saw a pair of boots I loved and tried them on. I asked the employees if I could buy them and they said no I had to come to the event. Later on in the week they posted the boots on their Instagram promoting the event. Then on Saturday I went in to buy the boots. I was the first one in the store and they were no where to be found. I asked the employees working if it was possible if an employee bought them and she said yes it was. It wasn't fair to post "sneak peek" items to show customers when they aren't really going to be for sale during the event. read more

I've been to this location before and I am generally satisfied. Today I was greeted when I entered, and brought in two baskets of clothes to sell (primarily Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe items.) I was told it would be a 45 minute to hour long wait. This was a tad lengthy in my opinion but as I shopped around I noticed how many names were put on the board before me, and understood the wait better. A note to Plato's closet shoppers in the area: this location has better merchandise than the Plano location, and has some awesome steals. You will also get more for your clothes here. Downside? I was very disappointed to note that by the time my basket went on the counter to be purchased, the buyer proceeded to eat a snack at the counter and skip over my basket and do some other buying first. That was disappointing, as I was in the store waiting while others had left. Was my basket large? Yes. But was I waiting in store in person for my purchase? Yes. As far as my shopping experience is concerned, I was very pleased. I will be purchasing 5 things in store today. An excellent H&M long sleeve dress for 6 dollars and a Mossimo (Target) peplum tank for 4 dollars among my purchases. Overall, I will come back to buy, but may consider selling elsewhere in the future. read more

I have found some very versatile, cute things here for great prices...I don't usually go in here when I'm looking for a specific item, because its just not feasible. Down side: its odd that you can take perfectly new and trendy items in to sell and leave without them buying one. Not much logic to their buying process. read more

One of the young lady was nice enough to take my belongings due to not having an identification card that's why I gave a two star. The wait was around 1.5 hr, so that gave me enough time to drive home, grab my id and run a few errands. I received a text about an hour later, letting me know that they were ready with my belongings. A different young lady rang me up, letting me know what they were offering on my belongings and what they couldn't take. I felt rushed by the young lady and she had a very nasty attitude. She tossed my bags onto the counter and walked away. I had a few name brand items such as true religions and 7 jeans, but only took the outdated forever 21 and papaya items. I've sold to Plato's before. Some places would even take items that other plato closet won't. Won't be coming back to this location. read more

Gillian and Monica provided great customer service and made my selling process extremely pleasant and I will definitely return to this location and recommend it to people I know. Horrible store. Took a huge bag of nice clothes, some with tags still, and the teen girl said they don't buy plus sizes. Not all were plus. She only bought 1 thing for $2. Said they need jewelry. Took a huge box of ear rings, rings, bracelets, and belts all neatly arranged and in great condition. The teen girl said that I didn't have any teen styles they sell, which was a lie.
