My daughter and I frequently go to this Platos and we love it. They always have their clearance racks up front and decorated neatly. There's tons of clothes for everyone. This is for Platos closet in Monroe this review. It seems like they all have bad ratings. These places must be run my the same owners because seeing the reviews they all STINK! They have very young kids picking and choosing what you bring in. Then you get an email stating there looking for spring clothes you go in and there too stocked up. Don't even bother going in their with a giant bag of clothing they will pick two things from it. Then you have to haul that bag back. I really want to love this place, but I encountered a staff person with an weird attitude. The greeting script recited starts with "Is this your1st time selling with us?" If yes, as was the case, the terms might as well be fine print for the 250mph that the terms of the sale were recited. I kindly asked that it be repeated slower. I saw her young colleague smurking and her gloating of her ability to throw-off the potential customer. I did not like it period Meanwhile, another person came in with several trash bags of clothing. So, I asked how long of a wait to consider my much smaller presentation of about six Items of clothing. I was told about 30 minutes. So, I chose to stay and browse the store. The person who came in after me with the many bags was considered first. My lot would have been finished in less than 10 minutes for sure. Why? Im not sure, but it felt deliberate. I know for a fact that she saw me browsing around the store for that half hour. With no acknowledgement, I left and came back about another 40 minutes later only to learn that only one of my items were of interest...I was offered only $5 for a coat that was presented in excellent condition without tags. In spite of the fact that you can find nice things on the racks of the store, this experience was a turn-off. Items purchased from others are re-sold with the price marked up considerably from what was probably paid out. I'm just not sure if what I experienced was an isolated incident of unprovoked rudeness or is this how they treat everyone. In closing and based on other reviews about this this spot, I would suggest a significant improvement in the attitudes of the staff who deal with the customers who come into the store and a more fair deal on selling clothing to this business. read more

Do not go here. The customer service is terrible. I had picked up a shirt for $10 when I went to go purchase it. It was taken from me and I was told that I couldn't buy it for this price and that they usually price it for $10 more than what it was marked for, I was told it was a mistake made an employee .They wouldn't let me purchase it after I offered to pay the $10 difference but instead they told me I had to come back in around four days which is ridiculous not to mention the attitude that was given during this situation and the disrespect. I had to call corporate and the corporate manager let me come back a different day and purchase it for the price I had originally found it in store Another thing I've also sold to this location it's terrible the amount that they pay you for athletic leggings. I was getting paid around $1.75 for new without tag conditioned athletic leggings and shirts. Would not recommend you shop or sell here. read more

I found two Ralph Lauren oxford shirts and a Tommy Hilfiger jacket for a fraction of the new prices and quite frankly was proud to have them. Everything is displayed by size and NOT by colors like goodwill making it much easier to get in and decide quickly whether there's anything of interest. Service is trash, literally walked in shortly before closing to pick up what i dropped off earlier so they weren't busy at all, not a single person said hello when I came in or asked me what they could help with as I waited at the counter. They all just turned their heads and starred and then proceeded with their personal convos. Their selection is so trash lmao they tell you they won't take things that are "out of style" yet everything they have is out of style. Pretty cool Quirky type of place. I actually came here with a family member that said that he shops here occasionally. He described this store as a Goodwill Store" type of store since the quality is slightly better however the prices were higher. This location sells men/woman's clothing along with shoes and accessories. Personally, this store wasn't really for me. The clothes for the most part were all 2nd hand and I thought the prices could've been a little cheaper. The store itself seemed cluttered and you are literally going through racks of clothes. The good thing is my cousin was able to find a pair of "Banana Republic" jeans for a pretty good price. Overall, not my cup of tea BUT there is something for everyone here. read more

The staff has a serious bias when dealing with people of age. I tried to sell several pieces with tags on from Old Navy, Jjill and J crew but was told the style was "too mature." Since when does Old Navy and J crew sell to the AARP demo? Was even more frustrating after I saw many Old Navy pieces on the floor. And my pieces had tags on. Staff was nice enough and I had no intention of arguing with them. Do not recommend. read more

Three large box/bags of rarely worn or brand new with tags pants, athletic wear leggings, and graphic style t-shirts and jackets. More than 50 items -all clean, neatly folded. Told it would be 2 hrs to go through everything and when we got our call back they offered to take only 7 items (from top of our box) and the rest were untouched exactly where we left them. Bags appeared that they were not even opened! 8 sales people behind counter and all grumbling about not wanting to be there. Would not be surprised if they just pulled the top couple things off box and called it done! Total waste of time! read more

Please do not sell here -- I brought in all clothes 1-2 years old .. Good - Great condition. I even brought in an urban outfitters jumpsuit , bought for $100 and it was new with tags !! ( selling because too small ) They pick out a few items they want including the jumpsuit and offer me $18 for EVERYTHING Of course I declined because i could sell on postmark for $30-40 . Yet when I go in the store there is all outdated clothes .. some are still dirty. Don't go here they will scam tf out of you !!! read more

I've left one review before didn't think this place could get any worse! They said they are accepting all clothing items. I wait 4 hours and then they say "we liked your items but our inventory is to high so we can't take any of your items" so they wasted my time and gas when they could've just communicated to me. Employees always lazy, with an attitude, always trying to do the least, it seems like they're bother whenever someone comes in, picking up clothes it's the easiest job in the world but their hands are gonna fall off from their bodies for doing it, get better employees someone that actually wanna work. Went here to look for a couple shirts and maybe a pair of shoes. I've visited this store numerous times over the years and to this day I have not found anything worth buying. There are a few problems I have with the store. Firsthe selection for men is horrible. The selection is pretty crappy. With them being so picky about what they buy, I don't know how half the clothes they have got on the rack. Many of the brands are Merona (Target) and even some Faded Glory (Walmart). With the prices they are asking for these shirts I can go to the actual store and buy the brand new shirt for a few more bucks. I came in a couple weeks ago, but I am just now getting around to writing this review. When I was waiting in line, I was getting checked out by a girl name Sara. She was very rude and giving me attitude when I asked about certain items and generally seemed avoidant. This left a bad taste in my mouth. I ended up seeing an item I liked as I was walking out, so I went back to the registers. This time, a tall girl named Alena was helping me. She was so sweet and helped answer any questions I had originally given to the other girl. She even recommended some shoes that would go along with the clothing items I had chosen. The reason I'm leaving a five star review is for her- she was a smart hire. As for the other girl, all I can say is good riddance. read more

I came here to try to sell a few items and was overall pleased with the whole experience. All the workers there are very friendly. They greet you at the door and they tell you bye. I got a decent amount of money for what I gave them. I shopped a bit and got a few items for a really good deal. I got a anthropologie dress, lularoe top and a few other things for a great price. The selection is good but is geared more towards teens. That's fine, I'm not a teen but I did find a good bit of items what was age appropriate. My husband even found a few things that were new with tags that he bought. I came back the next week to sell a few more items and got a good amount of cash as well. I can't really complain, you get cash on the spot and it's a easy transaction. I'm happy with whatever I get because I have no use for it anymore. It's a win win situation! read more

Today is the last time I will go to this place. I went in to see if they would buy some of my clothes and the girl checking me in said it would be about an hour, no problem. Ended up going to run some errands and waste time in the shopping plaza. When it was 1:00 I decided to go back in and see if they were ready for me. When I entered the shop I saw that my bag was still sitting in the counter with the tag they give attached. Shopped around a little in the store, once it was 1:30 I went up to the counter and asked the girl when my bag would be ready the girl then said that they had to finish going through two more large bags until they got to mine. When they finally texted and said my bag was ready it was 2. I arrived at the shop at 12. I get if you have a lot of bags to go through but don't lie about the time and not really care, very unprofessional.Didn't even take any of my clothes. read more

Not only was the staff incredibly unfriendly and rude. I had a really nice designer clothes that they tried to give me like 2 to 3 dollars per item in my shirts that were brand new had tags on them they wanted to give me a dollar for and then they gave me attitude when I asked to go through the Fed to see what they were paying me $25 for my whole bag of clothes for in were rude when I took stuff out because I felt like it was worth more than what they were trying to offer me!!! read more

Do I recommend going to this Plato's Closet?: Yes, definitely. I went in planning to look for one skirt and left with one skirt and four dresses (so I'm pretty much set for the warm season this year) for just over $50. Do I recommend going to this Plato's Closet on a Saturday afternoon?: Not so much. I left 2 hours after I entered and the line for the dressing room was 20-30 minutes long both times I stood in it. The staff seemed completely over the weekend rush, and while they weren't unpleasant, they weren't exactly helpful either. My name is Beth F. and I have a problem. I admit it... I'm a thrift store junkie. If there is a bargain or freebie around I'll sniff it out. It's like I have an internal radar that blares loudly inside as I get closer to that specific sales item. Don't get me wrong though, I have a serious amount of self control most times too, unless Plato's Closet is having one of their bag sales. OMG. I've been a pretty loyal patron of Plato's since I was in my early 20's. When they first opened their prices were AMAZING, and It was literally my go to spot. I could get a pair of jeans for $4, shoes for $3 and purses for even less. It really just depended on what they had in stock. Now it seems I'm looking at $10 to $12 per pair of jeans so my star ratings are starting to drop with their increasing prices. I realize these are name brand jeans that cost way more new, but that's just it... these aren't new!! Someone has already had their butt in them prior to me. I can go to a real thrift store and spend half these prices. I know finding some of the product is a gamble, but again I'm a deal sniffer and I'll find them if they are there. However, on bag day... it's a whole different story. They mark down half the store, and you get a bag for $10. You are allowed to fill the bag till it's overflowing with clothes shoes, you name it for only $10. WOW! Get there early on bag day or you'll miss out on all the cute deals, and be left with the scraps of semi style. Especially in this store because it's pretty small, and you may get ran over for the cute stuff. I used to purchase clothes at the thrift stores and yard sales, ebay etc and bring them in to Plato's to make some cool cash, and then I'd turn around and buy new clothes from them with the money. Ah those were the days. Now it's hard to get them to take most of anything for a good price. I took them a ton of name brand stuff and a leather jacket, they offered me $15. UM. No thanks.... I'll sell it myself for more. If you're looking for a specific type of outfit in a hurry, or a dress then I'd say go to Plato's Closet. If you have time to find what you're looking for, stick to the thrift stores and yard sales. read more

This place is only A-ok for me. The atmosphere is good and the associates are friendly enough. I do like how they keep the place well organized. It's easy for me to find my sizes, and also the certain category of clothes that I want. I also enjoy how they've got a nice couch for you to sit on while waiting for others in your party to shop, or even if you have to wait while selling your clothes. The only thing I do not like about this place is their policy that I must stay in the store if I'm selling my clothes back. I understand, but if you tell me it's going to take an hour, why can't I just leave and then come back? They already took information from my driver's license when checking in. I also do not like how they told me it would be an hour wait for them to check out my clothes I'm selling. More like two to two and a half hour wait. I feel like I wouldn't have stayed if I knew it was going to take this long. I felt lied to. Still waiting in the store two hours after arriving and have time to write this review. I think next time I come to sell my clothes, I'm gonna be smart and bring a laptop while waiting, like the guy sitting beside the door right now. After doing some Spring cleaning, I carried 3 trips to the car's worth of clothing into Plato's Closet to try and get some C-A-S-H. The staff was very friendly, I will give them that. But I expected more from the store to be quite honest. The clothing selection there was very low quality. It was organized pretty well and I did spy a super cute pair of Marc by Marc Jacobs shoes for $10. I find it sub-par to the selection at Buffalo Exchange on Central, though equally as picky about what they will accept. Yes, and it does smell like a Waves I got a henna tattoo at once in Myrtle Beach. #Moretroublethanit'sworth After 3 trips to and from my car, they only took 4 items. I really enjoy going here, but the experience has changed a bit over the years. The wait does not bother me. Often it's a long wait, but that's understandable. What bothers me is how they seem to only buy shoplifted or brand new clothing. I bring in lightly worn clothes from stores such as American Eagle Outfitters and even Juicy Couture and they never buy them. It's a bit frustrating. However, I do understand that my clothes may not be that great and some of them are definitely over a year old (they want clothing that is relatively new). Over the years, the prices have risen a bit. Everything is more expensive. Not much, but it's noticeable. Since the men's section has grown, the store has become more cramped. Racks are jam packed with clothing, which makes it hard to look through sometimes. There's quite a bit of what I consider "unwearable" clothing. Crop tops and sheer monstrosities and things that stay on the racks for a while. For people who are so picky on buying, I don't understand how so much of this clothing is making it onto the racks, especially at such high prices. This may be attributed to the higher number of customers that come to this store. It's usually super busy. They have more purses, shoes, and jewelry than ever before. Overall, this place is still great, it just takes a bit more time than before to find what you're looking for. Prices are a bit higher than they used to be and the selection just isn't as great as it once was. Most of the employees are very helpful. read more

I am a huge fan of Plato's Closets. I have been to many in the Washington DC metro area and all around different parts of Columbus Ohio. This location is nothing like what I am used to from Platos Closets elsewhere. The clothes here are all very worn and clearly used. There are no good name brands to mention. A lot of forever 21 (which knowing how low quality that stuff is to begin with.... You catch my drift regarding quality/wear and tear of clothes). Many of the items in stock are very dated and out of style. Not worth the trip. I am hoping that this isn't a reflection of what Platos are in the south. read more

I would like to start with saying that i was selling some of my clothes and they were in great condition because if they weren't i wouldn't have given them up, they were also really rude to my friend and what they said was very disrespectful to her. When i went up there to pick up my clothes they said my clothes were "peeling" and "fading" but as i look around the whole store their clothes are pulling and faded way more than mine. So i wouldn't recommend going here or selling youre clothes here. Also when we went to check out the bar code wasn't on the pair of shorts my sister was buying but the price of the shorts were and they got a tag off another brand of shorts and charged my sister $15 dollars for a pair of shorts that were $10. Don't try and sell here. I brought in two pairs of PacSun jeans that are in style, and simply didn't fit me right, with the tags still on and a retrial price at ~$50. They tried to buy them from me for just over $28. Both. Pairs. Never worn, brand-new, in-style jeans from a big seller. each priced at $14. Absolutely not. I got an offer the next day for $40 per pair from a friend, and another over Depop. Don't buy into this place's scam, do yourself a favour and donate to a good-cause place or sell online. Trust me - 50% of my wardrobe (at the very least) was bought online through friends, models, or vintage stores. It's worth it, the market is huge. Don't buy into this store's B.S.! read more

Very clean store with helpful staff members. There's a slight odor but I guess that comes from used clothes. Some of the clothes are a little cheap and tasteless and they dont take a whole bunch when you bring in to sell. I never walk out of this store empty-handed. The clothes are organized very well by size and within the size range by color. They have a massive amount of jeans and shoes. The shoes always seem to be on the small side though, ranging from 5 1/2 to 7 1/2. The manager is super nice and helpful. Go during the week when it's less crowded. read more

Overall, Plato's Closet is a bargain for the clothes that you get. If there is any negative I would say it would be them not buying back clothes by saying they don't meet the inspection requirements YET the same clothes you purchase from them are not perfect and may have those same type blemishes and imperfections!!! Awful experience, and had nothing to do with the amount of clothes they kept or didnt. The lack of customer service I experienced today was shocking. I work in service and understand that sometimes you may have a bad day, but this was no excuse. I walked in to sell two bags of clothes, and not one of the 3 employees looked up. Felt like I wasn't even there... bizarre. The whole exchange made me feel like it was a bother that I was there. When I went to pick up my clothes, the girl was so rude. No one acknowledged me, yet again, so I stood behind a girl already being helped. When I got to the counter, the same girl from earlier thought it'd be nice to NOW tell me that while waiting in line youre supposed to stand off to the left. I had to laugh... she couldve easily told me that two minutes earlier when she was staring at me waiting. Just ridiculous. Don't work in customer service if you cant even pretend to be nice to someone. read more
