Belk is your typical department store. Gobs of clothes for men, women and kids. A huge makeup area, lots of jewelry and accessories. None of it really appeals to me though. I'm just not the department store type. I suppose these places are becoming less and less popular these days too. Brick and mortar on such a huge scale is a dying breed. I can only speak for the selection for men. They have lots of well-known brands that you don't typically find a specific store for separately. Levi's, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger. That kind of stuff. I checked out the Levi's but the selection is limited when compared to Macy's. It's unfortunate that Macy's is no longer here in this mall while Belk has held out. Macy's is just a better store, sorry! Prices are typical for most things but can be a bit high. There are almost too many people working here. The makeup area is unnervingly bright and off-putting. They're almost like those stalls in the middle of the mall where the guys come up to you and get you to try something out. It's an overwhelming experience for me coming in here. I prefer to stick to an exact shopping list, go in and get out.

Currently at MAC for the National Lipstick Day hosted by MAC Cosmetics. Arriving to this location I knew it would be well structured and successful from the note the employees put on the door. It provided the waiting customer that the line would form at the outdoor entrance of Bell and that everyone must be 12 and older to receive the product. Around 11:30am MAC Cosmetics employees came out to give instructions about the event and then provided wristbands to everyone in line. Explaining that they would also bring out the 9 featured lipsticks so we can have an idea of what to expect. Overall I think bell did a great job preparing this event for what could be a very large crowd. Walking into the door, we could immediately head to the MAC Counter and thankfully with our wristbands having numbers on them we could take our time and not feel rushed. We were guaranteed a lipstick. Over all great job to MAC cosmetics and Bell on a successful event day.

This was my first Belk store I've ever visited, and I was impressed! I like to call it "the Boscov's of the south". As a Pennsylvanian, I was surprised at the amount of Southern hospitality in the store. Either way, they were nice. Did I mention they also played my favorite song in here?

I used to work at a full line Nordstrom years ago, so I know quality when I see it. That's why I love the Rack because you can always expect good brands at better prices than you'd find at the full line store. To some people, Nordstrom Rack still feels a little pricey for a discount store, but you really have to compare it to the original full line price tags. I live in the NoDa area, and I will say this location was a bit farther out than I expected, about 25 minutes from my house. I was honestly surprised that there isn't a Nordstrom Rack closer to the city. This one is more on the outskirts, which is fine, but it does make quick trips or exchanges a little less convenient. Yes, you can return items at the full line Nordstrom, but sometimes you just want to browse and see what's new. Parking here was easy, and the store itself was clean and well organized. Coming from Houston and then Florida, I wasn't used to seeing so many coats in stock, so that actually caught my attention. They had a big winter selection, and I ended up leaving with a super cute trench coat, a puffer jacket, and a couple of other cold weather pieces since I know Charlotte winters are going to be colder. The staff was about as friendly as you'd expect at a Nordstrom Rack, but they moved quickly, and the checkout line wasn't long. Overall, this location was consistent with the other Nordstrom Racks I've been to. No surprises, just the usual dependable Rack experience. I'd definitely return.

The store was very well stocked and clean. You didn't see much on the ground from items knocked down. The items I found were priced very well. No complaints. There was so much variety here that you could spend a lot of time in this store. Upon checking out, I was greeted by a young lady. She asked me about opening a store credit card and I told her no thank you. Her demeanor changed, lol! I mean I'm sorry that I don't shop here often enough but also store credit cards are too limiting! But anywho...nice experience here and I would return.

I was able to snag a cute short green dress with a white furry cover up to use for the couch ceremony. All for less than $100. All the other stores I was looking at before, the dresses were $100+. I definitely recommend this store if you are looking for a party dress on a budget. The employees were super friendly and efficient. I went on a Sunday around 1 p.m., and it was busy. I had to wait in a long line to be able to use a fitting room. I waited about 30min and they have 6 fitting rooms. This is located inside Carolina Place Mall.

When I do, I have frequently shopped the location inside Carolina place mall in Charlotte, NC for cute outfits. Needless to say, I had my last experience in the store due to a disrespectful employee and response from their district manager. I arrived to the store on a Saturday around 11:30a/12:00p, it was beginning to get busy as you would expect on a Saturday. Upon entering I looked around for a dress for a family wedding out of town and some cute outfits for other nights. I had about 5 dresses and 5 full outfits to try on. I waited in the area near the fitting rooms for a while, there were 3 people in line to pay and others waiting for fitting rooms, but no one able to find an associate. There are no carts, bags, or benches anywhere to sit heavy items down and only 3 of the 6 fitting rooms open (3 of which had a small piece of white receipt paper torn off with "closed" written on them and taped to the door). After waiting for what seemed like forever, unable to find an associate and the 3 rooms being occupied, my arm was giving out so I attempted to open the "closed" room and the door was unlocked. As soon as I walked in and sat my items on the bench, an associate appeared out of nowhere and when I opened the door, her response was, "don't you know how to read? It says closed." I understand being short staffed as many places are now, I understand being over worker and tired, but I'm sorry I will not tolerate blatant disrespect like that. I simply responded, yes I did see that, but I couldn't find anyone to ask if I could use it and my arm was tired with all these clothes. Is there a reason these 3 are closed? They were just open last week. Her response, "I don't have to give you a reason, an eye roll, and she walked away." Under my breath, I said, "wow, what a bitch." At this point I was so frustrated with the way she was talking to me. I came out, waiting for about 10 minutes for a fitting room, tried on my items, and my husband tried to pay for them. She would not let my husband pay because SHE was rude, then got her feelings hurt because I responded back to her level of rudeness. Not only that, she was African American, I am Caucasian and when I came out of the fitting room, she had allowed an African American woman into the fitting rooms she wouldn't allow me into. So, now not only was she rude, I had spent over an hour in the store and couldn't purchase my items, and she appeared to be nothing other than racist toward me. I will be sure to spread the word about this location and the disrespect and racism I was treated with. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. Side note, the company apparently has a policy where she does not have to provide her name, so I couldn't even call and report her individually. All I can do is provide a photo of her backside. The associate supposedly spoke to her district manager who said I was banned from that location. What kind of company bans a customer, without speaking to the customer, AND when I did not harm anyone, made no threats, damaged nothing, did not make a scene, etc. STAY AWAY!!

We moved from the Richmond, VA area less than a year ago so we're still discovering all the places. My husband and I are GenX, so we are the Mall Rat generation - lost in a sea of the hot trend of "Town Centers", so we always check out malls to try to find ones that aren't on their last leg; filled with one-off trinket shops. We were in awe of this mall! It is full, it's big, it's lively, and it's got an awesome food court! It's like we stepped into a time warp and landed in the '90's; we felt like teenagers again! All the good stores are in here. The only thing I didn't see - and I may have just missed it - was a music store. I miss the old days of going and listening to new albums on headphones and talking to people as we dig through the CD racks. I got some of my best music recommendations that way. And with the resurgence of vinyl, that mall really would be a prime spot for a record store! If anyone ever decides to build a nursing home for us GenXers, just use this mall. All you have to do is take out the Southern Lion and put little rooms in there. You don't have to change anything else! I mean does any over 40 remember growing up to one of the best experiences of their childhood called a MALL? I do and sadly those days are slowly yielding way to Ecommerce, outdoor shopping centers designed for ease of access and speed, and new societal norms. Located in a safe area off of I-485 Carolina Place is a very nice place to take the family while shopping for all those modern needs or even for us older folks, a step back in memory lane. I mean gone are Radio Shack, Merry-Go-Round, Aladdin's Castle, KB Toys and Suncoast to name a few replaced by empty units or some places that have been able to maintain their leases like Belk (for those southern folks), Gamestop, Dicks and well you get the point. The main take away is I feel is the place is safe and has great natural light. I took my daughters and got their bathing suits at a place that will remain nameless one for $80 the other $60, but alas the discount brought both to $50 total. I'm ignorant of pricing at retail stores and how it works during the season but that was just weird to me. We wondered around, picked up some Auntie Anne's pretzel bites (our favorite) to nibble on while I took them to several stores which they loved including Hot Topic and Claire's. I really like the layout here, wide open. My favorite place to take my girls is the food court. We saw a huge line and while I hoped it was for multiple restaurants, nope I knew what it was for. Sarku had over 30 people in line while all the other stalls had one or two customers. All in all it took us roughly 20 mins to get our food. I'm curious what would happen if I dropped another Sarku in the food court? Anyways, they were SLOW but as always really good. So, when you're there I highly suggest Double Chicken Teriyaki w/ fried rice along with an extra scoop of sauce on the top. The chicken is nice and caramelized with a nice soy kick and fried rice, need I say more? All in all, I still cherish the mall and Carolina Place is holding up the tradition! While I wish all the units were filled, such as life these days. If you'd like to make a day of fun activities with the kids, I think you should consider stopping by, just make sure you hit the food court while doing your shopping!

A man who identified himself as the person in charge (Harry) repeatedly questioned me about my service animal. I clearly stated multiple times that my dog is a trained service animal -- NOT an ESA -- and that she is ADA compliant. Despite this, he continued to challenge me and ultimately forced me to leave. For the record: Under federal law (Americans with Disabilities Act), businesses are NOT allowed to demand "papers," documentation, or proof for a service animal. They are only permitted to ask two specific questions, both of which I answered correctly. My dog was not disruptive, not on the ground, and not touching anything -- I was actively ensuring she was completely out of the way. This was not about cleanliness or safety. This was ignorance of the law and blatant discrimination against a disabled person. Being publicly questioned, challenged, and removed from a business for using a service animal is humiliating, stressful, and unacceptable -- and it is illegal. If you are disabled, use a service animal, or care at all about accessibility and basic human decency, do not support this business. Southern Lion has made it clear they do not respect federal law or disabled patrons. I will be pursuing further action and strongly encourage others to be aware of their rights before stepping foot here.
