If you haven't been in over a year, they are under new management. And let me tell you...they're doing a great job. I walked past one lovely Friday afternoon, and they had a sign out front "Walk-ins available. 50% off all services". Are you kidding? This girl's blonde roots are sticking out like a sore thumb! So, I walk in. I am warmly greeted by all the staff, and am immediately brought some water and consulted by Jacklyn and Figan. I tell them my schtick: solid color, red, that's it. Figan tells me we can do solid color, but she would like to try and paint some very subtle highlights on the ends...so it looks like I've been in the sun. For some reason, I trusted her...and am I ever glad I did! Best color job I've ever had, hands down. Beautiful color choice (I went lighter than I usually do since it was already faded, but they were able to give it more richness than this color usually has) and I LOVE the highlights. You can't even see them except in certain light. Then they just pop out. Kind of what I think Feria tries to make you think will happen with their box color. Super friendly, beautiful (I mean..really beautiful, modern, rich yet fun) interior and absolutely no attitude. Hard to find in WIcker Park area. My new color place. read more

I recently had my hair cut and colored at Plateau Blu. The beautiful salon is detailed with individual plasma tvs at each station and unique aluminum back wall. It reminds me of Millenium Park. The stylist Kassandra greeted me as I walked in and took me to her chair. I am a natural medium brown who has NEVER colored my hair but I was ready for a change. I also have very curly hair that is not easy to blowdry. I wanted a cut that I could wear both curly and straight. After the consultation, we both decieded to introduce illuminating copper hightlights with a gloss in between. After she cut my crazy locks into a controlled finished look. She showed me how to blowdry each section.Kassandra also gave me some pointers on how to twist my wet hair for when I want to wear it curly. I love my new color and cut. The staff was extremely friendly, which you normally dont get in a chic boutique Chicago salon. I defintely recommend this salon to anyone who wants full service. I am happy with the service and the products she recommended work great at home! I am now open to coloring my hair! My first visit to Plateau Blue was in June, it looked like a very hip and trendy salon, plus 50% off first time customer was definitely in my price range. I had such an amazing experience I haven't gone anywhere else since, I even have my family and girl friends hooked. When I leave the salon I'm on cloud nine, feeling pampered and gorgeous! I have never left a salon satisfied until I started going there. The staff is personable, and up-to-date on current styles, trends and products. They have stylist that specialize in just coloring and cutting, they take the time to listened and discuss ideas with me and figure out my hairs personality to find the best cut and/or color for my hair and face. This is the most amazing part, I can actually fix my hair the same way they did, on my own with the use of only 2 products (that's unheard of). They explain what their using how it works the amount to use and how to create the style on my own. I highly recommend them, it's comfortable, affordable and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Five Stars all the way. read more

After reading reviews on here last week, I was apprehensive to go to my appointment. When I got there I was relieved to find out that Johnny, the culprit of the bad reviews, no longer works there. The salon has mostly new employees now, and I had a great experience getting my hair cut. Derek spent a great deal of time personalizing my hair and it was a completely enjoyable experience. I did not feel rushed out of the salon and got great treatment. The atmosphere is really fun and relaxing, with comfortable chairs and big floor to ceiling mirrors. My hair looks amazing, and I am really happy with the outcome. Not only did my hair look good when I left the salon, but it looks good whenever I style it on my own as well....the true sign of a good haircut. They have a special promotion for first time clients, 50% off a cut and color! That is what brought me in the door and I am hooked. I am going back tonight to get my hair colored and am really looking forward to the experience. I highly recommend this salon! read more

I was in here a few weeks ago and I must say the experience was amazing!! I went in as a model for a newly hired stylist and I must say it was quite the bitter sweet experience! Sweet part- the entire experience over all was amazing- Jackie who did my hair was very clean and precise in doing my hair. I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair and I personally LOVE IT!!! Like I said I went in as a model but was treated like any other client, which made me feel extremely welcomed. I have SO MUCH hair that it took quite some time but no one in the salon ever lost their patience, which is something I experience very often with the amount of hair I have. Also, everyone from the colorist to the owner was very involved in the entire process with Jackie's training, by far this has been the best "model" experience ever!! bitter part- being that I am a new graduate with debt working at a non profit it will be a while till I can go back = ( I sincerely recommend this place AND they have an awesome special going on!!!! read more

If you are looking for an amazing team of experienced stylists, a great location and a beautiful salon,WITH FREE PARKING IN REAR, then Plateau Blu is a must! The salon is absolutely gorgeous inside-- I would definitely consider myself hair-obsessed(kind of a trademark for me) and am incredibly picky about who I let cut/color my hair, so finding a stylist who listens to my needs as well as advises me about what would look good is a must. Fegan colored my hair is awesome! Derrick cut it After my old stylist moved away, a friend recommended I come see this place and I'm so glad I did!! His cuts her color are great and I can go a few extra weeks without needing a trim since my cut grows out evenly. The staff is super friendly and attentive and everyone at the salon is nice and not snobby or pushy at all, making you feel really comfortable and amongst friends. I highly recommend this salon!! I typically hate salon experiences...the sitting around waiting, the pretentious bitches, the flashing dollar signs....but I was very pleased with my first visit to Plateau Blu Salon. Scheduling was a breeze. I've never met friendlier, more accepting or fun stylists before. They didn't judge me or make me feel like crap since it'd been 6 months since my last hair appointment. They offered refreshments, played good music, the environment was modern and comfortable, and everyone had time to stop by and chat while my color was setting in. I got a trim and a color update from blonde highlights to medium reddish-brown all-over color and couldn't be happier. I've been getting compliments all day about how good it looks. The 1/2 price discount for first time customers and location close to home was what drew me in, but the results and the overall experience will bring me back. I don't know what these girls are complaining about. I came in with a special and it was thoroughly explained to me what was included and what wasn't before they did anything to my hair. My guess is those girls decided to do a bunch of stuff outside the offer - and made a bunch of decisions without adding it all up. On to the Nitty Gritty.... I am terrible at do-ing / fixing my hair. I've always wanted to be one of those effortlessly stylish girls with perfectly un-quaffed curls....I never got past a rubber band and barrette. Johnny!! I had passed by this place after work and thought I should try it out one of these days. Then I had found out my cousin went there and I loved her haircut so of course that got me to go. I went there after work on a Friday and just walked in. I was imediately greeted and felt very welcomed. I ended up with stylist Joie that day and he was awesome!!! He asked me what I wanted and he listened! He gave me tips and pointers on how to keep my hair looking good. And he gave me such a great haircut. It still looks good even when I style it myslef. I've been complimented by my co-workers and friends. My boyfriend even loves it. So I will be definitely going back. I have an appointment already set up! Being of the 'baby boomer' generation, I was a bit reluctant to follow up on my friend's recommendation of this salon since the stylists were all young and appropriately trendy. I assumed they would not know how to deal with my grown out gray hair and would talk me into a color and highlights that I wouldn't feel comfortable with. Quite the opposite!! Fegan is a color specialist and chose products that were the very best in grey coverage. I've never been happier with the resulting hair color and subtle highlights. She listened to what I didn't want and gave me so much more than I expected. I felt very comfortable in this salon - very relaxing and friendly - all the employees treated me like I was somebody special just because I came in! Absolutely! I've been goin to this salon since they first opened. Everytime I arrive, I get a big HI, HELLO! I have not found another salon to be as welcoming. In most salons ive been to there is some snobby girl barely finding the energy to get up and let the stylist know im there. So it was refreshing to feel at home. Besides the great environment and sweetest employees, my services are always a 10. I have very thick hair and grays. I usually do an all over as well as a cut. My stylist, Johnny, always takes the time to make sure every last detail of my hair is in place. Im not sure what some of these other yelpers are talking about. But its not my stylist! He matches my color perfect everytime and gives me a cut that makes me feel edgy but sophisticated! i highly reccomend! Love you Guys! read more

Decided to go back for another visit hoping that I would receive the same experience as the first time, but not expecting it at all due to the troubles I have had finding a place to get my hair cut since I moved here. The experience was nothing short of the first time and I can now say that I have permanently found my salon in Chicago. Derek is extremely knowledgeable and knows how to listen to what you want instead of doing what he wants. I had a minor problem with my cut that I noticed when I got home but all I did is go in the next day to see Derek and he quit what he was doing to take care of me. i enjoyed my first experince at plateau blu.. awesome laid-back atmosphere, very personable people, and creative stylists.. the service there is one of a kind.. they have huge plasma screens playing music dvd's and they even offered me a green tea.. i've only seen 2 stylists there, johnny and bianca.. from what i've seen johnny's work is just incredible.. but i've been going to bianca since her days at cosmetology school and i've followed her to plateau blu.. she has always given me the style of cut i've wanted and i've always been pleased with it and sometimes better than i expected.. there's been times where i just let her do her thing and my hair comes out looking great.. overall, i would totally recommend this place to anyone and everyone.. read more

I have been to Plateau Blu a few times...I love this salon! The atmosphere is very trendy and fun, and the service is amazing! They have plasmas playing music DVDs like Pink, pussycat dolls, madonna, beyonce, etc... Bianca cut my hair! She is awesome...I finally found someone who listens to what i want!! I like lots of funky layers in my hair...and most salons will just give you basic layers....boring! But Bianca gave me a great cut...I love my hair :) The next time I went in I decided to get highlights for the first time! I let Bianca decide and do her thing....It was awesome! I LOVE this salon!!!!!!! It is a small, cozy, lofty location thats decor is the best I have seen. The service providers are friendly, young, and stylish. I had no idea what I wanted, I just wanted a change. It was an awesome change. I have this coarse hard to manage hair and it was just getting long and completely out of shape. I went to KTP, who is a Redken Educator. She totally rocked out my hair. I like something a little more edgy since I am in a band. She understood my hair and my style and ran with it.
