Platanos
We came to Platanos after visiting their sister bar L'Antiquario, which is a few doors down. While L'Antiquario specializes in the shady speakeasy style and variations on classic prohibition cocktails, Platanos is a bit different. The bar space is colorful and hip, and the bartenders are friendly and chatty.
We were there fairly early on a Saturday night and the place was dead, but that meant we got to spend some time with the bartenders Giuseppe and Raffaele as they mixed up our drinks. This place is an interesting fusion of a tiki bar and a cocktail bar. It's less about that 60's island fantasy and more like ... modern tropical hip. But the cocktails were solid and the atmosphere was fun.
I enjoyed a Canchanchara with Havana Club 7 year, honey spiced syrup and lime. Simple and delicious. I then enjoyed the Ceylon Old Fashioned - which uses Arrak, palm sugar, añejo rum, pineapple bitters and orange curaçao. My partner had their Platanos Daiquiri, which was blended with fresh bananas. All the drinks were good and fairly balanced. The prices are average for a good cocktail bar in Italy and we'd happily come back again. read more
