Dr. Plasse is exceptional. After a body surfing incident, I had a chronic sinus issue. Due to insurance headaches I saw no less than five (5) ENT doctors between NYC and SF. Every single doctor, except Dr. Plasse, recommended that I get on antibiotics without bothering to do any tests whatsoever. Dr. Plasse was the only doctor who actually bothered to do sinus cultures and see if there really was a bacterial infection. There wasn't.
Every other ENT I saw was not only dead wrong. But actually doing more harm than good. Check it out. Over 15 years ago the Mayo Clinic confirmed that over 90% of chronic sinusitis sufferers actually have a fungal problem. In addition. Recent research by UCSF shows that chronic sinusitis is actually due to a lack of certain beneficial bacteria in the nose. And this is what separates those with chronic sinusitis from otherwise healthy people.
Taken together, it would seem crazy to me that any ENT doctor, in this day in age, would simply prescribe antibiotics (which may be very harmful to their patients), without even bothering to confirm the nature of the problem first. This experience completely changed my view of medicine. From one that I thought was based on science and data. To one that is run by doctors who are totally out to lunch. Anyway. Dr. Plasse is excellent and very much an exception to this general rule. I highly recommend him. read more
