What a great little but mighty plant nursery in S.E. Portland Oregon…read more I used to live in this neighborhood and it has many hidden gems. Birds and Bees Nursery is one of them. I'm a member of Carnivorous Plants Society of Oregon and one of my things is finding places that sell Carnivorous Plants outside of the big box stores. Sure the big Home store has plenty of Venus Flytraps every year but it's a cruel thing to see a plant abused by employees who don't know how to care for such a plant. First of all this plant has 2. basic needs. 1. All the direct sunlight it can get. At least 12 hours a day. 2. Distilled Water or Rain water. To see this plant living inside the store on a shelf dries out is a difficult thing to see. If it is watered, Tap Water us what it's given. Tap water is a for sure slow death to a Venus Flytrap Plant. So in my search, I found a little nursery in the burbs. Next to a Taco Smell restaurant, full of all sorts of plants from vines to carnivorous plants. In my interest, they had Sundews, Picture Plants and a ton of Venus Flytraps all sitting in the full sun. I found what I thought was a good specimen and when I picked up and looked at the Venus Flytrap I wanted, I realized it was actually 3 small and one slightly larger Venus Flytrap plants in the same pot for (I'm pretty sure in right. I was so excited to find such an awesome plant that I kinda forgot and the receipt wasn't helpful.) $15.00. They're usually about $10.00 for a common Venus Flytrap plant. I basically bought 4 plants for $3.75 a piece. With such great prices, my wife found a couple plants she couldn't leave without. We both left Birds and Bees happy. Update on our plants. They're all thriving in their new home.

I'm sure it's nice inside, but I wouldn't know, as there is no access for wheelchair usersread more

It took me far too long to visit this delightful women-owned shoppe, but now that I have I will add it to my shortlist of Portland favorites. First off, the owners couldn't have picked a more appropriate setting for a plant shoppe. With a classic storefront with window displays on both sides of the entrance, the store takes on a nostalgic vibe of tradesperson shops of yesteryear. I love knowing I'm shopping small, locally owned businesses that make our communities vibrant and diverse. Now let's get to the plants... that's the reason we're here! There's quite a diverse selection of houseplants in such a small space... indeed, something for everyone. If you need to pop in quickly for a "Get Well" card and a miniature pot of African Violets, they've got it. If specialty plants are more your thing, you'll find everything from the sought after Monstera cultivars, cacti and succulents, to Anthurium and Begonias. In fact, given their regular delivery schedule, it sounds like they can special order pretty much anything you might need. I spent 15 minutes or so getting to know Kailia, one of the owners who is also a registered horticultural therapist. She's very friendly, knowledgeable, and a delightful addition to the neighborhood. She made a clumsy oaf like me feel extremely at ease in her adorable shoppe. Be sure to check out their very informative website, LarkspurPortland.com for lots of valuable resources, information on Horticultural Therapy, and a pretty good impression of the types of plants the have in stock. I'm a fan, and I'll continue coming back!

Daphne's Botanicals was the only one to get back to me at all, and it was a prompt reply AND they followed up via email. They do offer a reporting service! For only five dollars! And they give you 10% off any pots you buy in the store, if you don't want to bring your own. This is a lifesaver for me, as I've learned to keep plants alive but historically repotting has not gone so well. I took in an incredibly long pothos that I got for free. The team at Daphne's Botanicals shared my excitement about the plant, welcomed me into the store, and quickly started on the repotting. I didn't have a pot but they gave a recommendation and I love how it turned out. While there, I browsed their product shelves and plants. It's a pretty small store, but their plants look happy and they've got some really cute planters and what they say is a really excellent plant food. They're also attached to a bakery so you can grab a little bite as well. Highly recommend this woman owned spot!
