What a gorgeous store with a marvelous variety of products. If I wasn't getting on a plane, I would've cleared them out of their inventory. Healthy plants, cute accessories, books, tote bags, gems, pots, & more. "More" includes CHICKENS! Not for sale, but definitely for greeting & observing. The non-plant items skewed pricey, but the plants seemed to be priced very fairly. I was taken aback at the price of the gorgeous, fully fenestrated Monstera Albo. I don't remember exactly what the price was, but I remember it being at least half the price of the Albo I have at home & at least twice the size. Even just for an afternoon stroll through the plants, Pistils is definitely worth the stop. read more

Such a beautiful and quaint plant nursery! Variety of plants at average/above-average prices, with a price range for all. The greenhouse area is very lovely, and gave me the feeling of a mini botanical garden. There is a cute watering and planting station in the greenhouse area, which was creatively designed and a charming addition to the nursery. It was raining the day we visited, but the outdoor area looked plentiful. Also to note: we visited during the winter (December), so the plant options may have varied. My sister purchased a plant, and at checkout, the employee gave her a little card regarding care, which was shows Pistils' attention to detail to plants even after sale! Both employees were knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly during our visit. Overall, a delightful spot to visit, even if you don't have an agenda to purchase plants. Origin: Pistils Nursery was founded in 2001 by Megan Twileger. Reminiscent of western false facade structures, Megan built the flagship store on an empty lot, envisioning Pistils to be a resource for urban gardeners and farmers. Pistils is a dream, especially their Mississippi location! Everyone is so friendly and the whole place is clean and tidy. I especially love how involved the employees are. On Sunday, I came by with a friend to browse. A gal working showed us around and shared some of her favorites with us. One plant she loved wasn't in bloom, but she showed us photos of it's last bloom so we could get a good idea of what it looks like at it's best. You could tell she really enjoyed her job. The chickens in the back are also adorable. We didn't leave with anything this time, but we'll definitely be back for some healthy plants and good vibes! read more

Absolutely gorgeous store. Every corner is beautifully thought out. You wander around and every area has a perfectly planned out theme or focalization. They have both an indoor and outdoor area. Yes this place is pricey but everything is really amazing and you can tell the plants are very well cared for. Staff is very friendly. There is a limited capacity due to Covid but its well worth the wait. Even if it's too much money for you to spend, it's worth the trip. So beautiful and peaceful. read more

Small, trendy nursery. Main focus for my visit was for hoya plants, and they did not disappoint. Located amongst other trendy spots to make a visit to the area interesting beyond the nursery. They carry larger hanging baskets along with smaller Potted plants. Saw 5 or 6 different quality hoya varieties. read more

Visited 5/12 for a Mother's Day gift. Short story- Kate and Joey were phenomenal. Some of the best customer service I've experienced in Portland. We will be back for more DIY terrariums. The kids each want their own. Long story- Before we knew what we wanted, my son started asking Kate a lot of questions. She was so attentive and genuinely interested in the plants he was asking about ( carnivorous type) . Took him over to a few examples and talked to through the types they had and how they eat. We decided on a DIY terrarium. Kate once again jumped in and pointed out all the options and helped us with construction. There was a large terrarium on display that caught all our attention. It was built by Joey. She was also so great with the kids! They asked about a vine at checkout and Joey gave us all the information about it. Mom got a great custom terrarium made by the kids. It's one of my happy places! My latest obsession is air plants, which btw do need to be spritzed with water! They derive their name because they don't require soil to grow. Pistils has a great selection! I've picked up trailing Spanish moss which provides a great contrast to the short, compact succulents I paired them with on my shelves. The staff is very knowledgeable and has provided great tips ensuring my air plants and succulents continue to thrive. In addition to the plants, they sell various planters, geraniums and vessels, many in a mid century style which i prefer. They also have lots of wall mounted planters which I Just love for their simplicity and the geometric detail they provide. Hang one or a collection to give your space personality and diversity a room. They compliment artwork without competing. Classes are offered for those wanting to build terrariums or wall mounted plants a want a hands on approach to designing your own unique arrangement. The NE Killingsworth store is the original and I've visited dozens of times over the years. They also opened a location in NW, in the Slabtown neighborhood. The NW location is beautiful with light pouring in everywhere and plants draping the walls, ceiling and floors. Guys, I miss nature. One way I'm getting through it? Plotting an urban jungle in my house and staring at plants on the internet. One of my favorite shops, both virtually and IRL? Pistils in Portland! For me, no trip to Portland is complete without a stop here. The shop itself is pretty compact (a front room and a back room), but it packs a punch when it comes to amazing plants to swoon over. The dreamy greenhouse feel paired with Portland's (usually) rainy weather is such a vibe. There's also a little outdoor section if you're shopping for your porch/yard. Love that they have supplies, planters, and books onsite as well. It looks like they're doing curbside pickup if you live in the area, plus delivery from their online site if you don't. Loved it so much! It was like walking into plant heaven itself. They have tons of plants, and really rare ones, too. I was able to find a great variety of calathea, cacti, succulents, pothos, philodendron etc. Everything was reasonably priced and I would go so far as to say better than the big nurseries in Portland. Staff was friendly and the experience was amazing overall. I was able to find my wishlist plant! They had a select few pink philodendron princess which I couldn't believe my eyes. Not super expensive either, but from what I've found anything under $100 for a PPP is rare. They even had living stone which I had to snag. Took a plant mount class here and had a great time! Wine was included and our instructor Dana was wonderful and helpful, our plants look great in the house and we left with full instructions of how to take care of them. Something to note for classes is that you do have to pay for things outside of the class cost. Just a note when you are booking so be prepared to spend $20-$40 extra. They can guide you through affordable plant options. The chickens in the back of the garden are extra cute, so check that out :) Only downside to this place is the price, but I haven't had a plant die from here yet so perhaps it's worth the cost. read more

I've been looking for interesting pieces of unglazed terra cotta to put in my aquarium. I found a very cool locally made piece here! The shop worker was very helpful and friendly, and they made sure to package my purchase up with lots of padding since I was traveling. I wish I could have purchased any of the cool plants that were lining every single wall, but alas a plant wouldn't survive my trip as well as a clay pot. read more
