I had to leave a nice review after that one nasty review- you can't give them one star just because you're far away, didn't keep your plant alive(which is almost impossible for a blackberry so that's on you), and are mad at a company for having the normal policy of in store credit- try to empathize with how many people kill their own plants and then want a refund- it's absurd. This nursery(One Green World, OGW) does have a lot of hard to find plants so that is a plus. Their prices are very high for medium quality plants (ordinarily). They are not above selling plants that are in poor health, however. So their plant quality is mediocre overall. It seems to depend on what what their suppliers offer. OGW also tends to have "waiting lists" for plants that they almost never have in stock--a frustrating marketing ploy. The real clincher is their service. When there is a problem and one of their weak specimens fails to grow and dies, the guarantee is worthless. They offer a "replacement" plant for a reduced price that still gives them a profit on the second plant. Look elsewhere for a nursery that cares about their customers. They are out there. read more

Fun place to shop for a large selection of fruit trees and berries. We added an icicle column tree to our urban garden since one of our current golden column's really struggled last year to bloom. One Green World is known for its fruit trees and harder-to-find plants. Located in outer SE, this property is large and has a TON of plants to browse. While there's not a clear layout or overall organization on a map level, the plants were all labeled and priced. Once I did one walk-through, it was easy to tell the progression of styles - as in, natives are here, fruit trees are here, succulents are here, and so forth. Prices seem on the more affordable side as far as Portland nurseries go. Most plants are young/small but they do have some more mature trees. Staff are few and far between and may be hard to find. But they're friendly and helpful once you do. It looks like they receive a lot of bulk orders, so sometimes the plant you're looking for will be taped off indicating they are pre-purchased and therefore unavailable. I am working on my Backyard Habitat certification, and was pleased to see a decent variety of native plants here. However, I was too tempted by the fruit trees, and ended up getting a fig and olive tree for my sunny backyard. I hope they survive under my care! Wish me luck! read more

I rarely write reviews but my experience with this nursery was so horrible, I felt I needed to warn others. I chose this nursery despite being 80 minutes from my home because they had Obsidian Blackberries, a difficult to find variety. However, their 3 Obsidian plants never grew, while other berries planted at the same time and conditions did well. I requested a refund, but was told they only did replacements or store credit. They assured me in writing that they had 3 healthy Obsidian replacements available. However, after driving there the next day, there was only one Obsidian available. We ended up getting Triple Crown berries from them as a replacement, despite being a common berry that I could have purchased 10 minutes from home for half the price. I should also mention that email customer service was very slow, taking 2-3 days to respond to each message. Bottom line: After 2 months, 260 miles of driving, and 9 days of slow email correspondence, I am finally planting a suboptimal choice of berries too late in the season for ideal growth - all thanks to having used One Green World. Don't make the same mistake as me. Avoid this nursery. read more

I first discovered One Green World last year, when searching for some exotic plants. During the online search, I was pleasantly surprised and amazed that this particular Southeast Asia plant was sold here at this nursery. Why should I be surprised, right? Given the gentle name of the company,"One Green World" The name itself gave me a huge impression that this nursery seeks out exotic plants to offer to their clients. I appreciate that very much because it allowed folks like myself to be able to purchase these special exotic plants that reminded me of my home country. Recently, I discovered that they were selling this very special grape (Kyoho).. I have been looking for this variety for a long time. It didn't take long for me to place my order for 2 plants of this grape. Last week, I received my order and was excited to welcome the grape plants to my garden. I noticed an unintentional mix up of the order. I do not fault them for this unintentional mix up. I totally understand their busy schedules, not just from maintaining the plethora of plants (with different needs / care), managing all the orders coming in, and careful packaging etc etc.. I emailed the company's customer care as it was already past the store hours. The following morning, I was pleasantly surprised that the customer care got back to me so quickly, with a very thoughtful and kind response. The company told me that the 2nd grape plant will be shipped to me and generously gifted me with this other special plant that was not in my original order. I was deeply touched by their thoughtfulness, generosity and quick response. Today, I received the 2nd plant from my original order and as usual, they did an amazing packing; with great care, love and dedication. The way they package the plants, speaks volume of the company. To me, that means this company not only respects the customers' orders but also respect to the plants as well. These beautiful plants that they have grown with care are now sent off to new 'families' (customers) around the country from coast to coast, to begin a new life and offer its beauty or delicious fruits. This company exceeds expectations in all aspects from customer care, commitment to customer satisfaction and fair pricing. Running a nursery business is a tough work but yet this nursery (One Green World) handles the challenges with grace and commitment to customer satisfaction. I don't usually write reviews but this company deserves a huge recognition and applause for who they say they are as a company and for what they stand for, quality of the plants and excellent customer care.. I want to like this business. They have an interesting selection of plants, and their email customer service was good. They quickly and cheerfully subbed out something in my order when I emailed them, and responded promptly to another email about the status of my order. Here are my issues: they never emailed me that my Spring pre-order was ready for pick up. I ordered in the beginning of December, and waited until the beginning of March to finally check. They immediately responded that my order was ready. Cool. So I went in, and the guy getting my order together tells me that they are sold out of one item in my order. "Looks like you ordered this a while ago..." he said. YES. I did. And I would have picked up the items I ordered a while ago too, if you had ever let me know I could. And no, there was no email in my spam folder from them. The substitute item he offered actually worked out better for me anyway, but it was a little annoying that a. they weren't more organized, and b. there was maybe a slight implication that they sold out because I didn't bother to come pick up earlier. The other thing I don't love is that they aren't really set up for on site retail. I'd have loved to browse while I was there, but I didn't see much that was priced, and they have signs saying that some things are reserved so shopping online is better. I also found one plant that I bought from them for $12 cheaper (same size) at another local nursery shortly after picking up. Overall I don't think their prices are unfair, but I'd definitely shop around before ordering. In terms of quality, the apples and fig I got have nice fat buds, and well established grafts on the apples. The persimmon is pretty sad. This is the third persimmon tree I've planted, and by far the saddest looking on purchase. The graft on it looks pretty fresh. Hopefully it does leaf out this Spring. read more

I purchased three bare root pluots (Dapple Dandy Pluot, Flavor Queen Pluot Tree, Splash Pluot Tree) for $152.85, in early February 2022. These were to be delivered "winter/spring." After several delays, the trees were received two weeks after the time frame given (on 04/26/2022). Two of the trees produced leaves and appeared to establish roots by July, but failed by the end of the month. When I called to request a replacement in August 2022, I was told that the company policy does not guarantee their product past July 1. While I do not enjoy disparaging a family-run business and acknowledge that I did not read the fine print, most vendors provide a much more reasonable product guarantee (e.g. Stark Brothers), for at least one year. Buyers beware!!! read more

I spent thousands of dollars at this place about 10 years ago, when I was planting up my yard with a food forest in California. I used to love this place. It was such a better nursery back in the day when they were a smaller company. Now, because they're "bigger", their customer service sucks and their plants arrive almost yellow and in desperate need of nitrogen. Their bare root trees arrive moldy and reaking of decomposition from being wrapped in plastic bags with no substrate like moist newspaper or sawdust for transit. Good companies turn bad when they get "too big for their britches". I ordered 3 Jujube trees that were shipped via FedEx. The box was in perfect shape but the contents were damaged. One of the pots came loose and destroyed all 3 plants. I sent an email asking for help. They asked for photos which I sent. Then they wanted more which I sent. They then stated I needed to send photos when I asked about follow up. Well, I had already sent them 10 photos. Not only did I receive damaged goods of no value to me, I've been asked to jump thru hoops and after doing so, asked to jump again. BUYER BEWARE ! read more

I'm VERY please to see that pretty much every one of the annoyances has been resolved. Plants are now on tables, making maneuverability much easier. There is also signage displaying the prices of most of the plants. As I've built out my garden, I've found that I needed more edibles, and each time, One Green World has far and away had the best selection. You really can't go wrong with One Green World. read more

Love their great combo fruit trees, it is fun to have several species of plums, pears, cherries, or apples all on one tree. Really the only other decent place to get combo trees is Raintree nursery. If you get a combo from each place they can compliment each other and you can have a lot of different varieties on two trees! Crazy good cross pollination. Just remember to plant it so the most aggressively growing branch is facing north. This can help even out the tree. Wrap the trunk and fence them in for the first few years. Gently fertilize them every spring when they are flowering. Some folks get mad because they sometimes have to wait a long time or they cancel a plant order. That is just how nature works. People get a crazy sense of entitlement because you can get almost anything on Amazon in a few days. With nursery plants often have to order many months in advance, and it is not guaranteed that they will be able to fill the order. My last order was put in July of 2022 (when everything is still in stock) for shipment in April of 2023, that is 9 months I had to wait. read more

(This isn't tea house, but be patient..) I came across this mail order catalog nursery through the Oregon Association of Nurseries website, more about that later. They are a huge, I think 70+ acres nursery, much of it greenhouses, that sells almost all of their plants by mail and shipping across the USA. That means they sell small plants that can ship. Most of the plants are very unusual or rare and expensive. But if you need a Japanese contorted mulberry tree, you can get it here, and it will probably be about 2-3 feet tall. They are open one Saturday a month for walk in traffic and it's a beautiful drive from Portland. I really got a sense of how fertile and valuable our nearby farmland is, it is preserved from suburbanization by the strict Oregon land use laws, and it gives us great farmer's markets and local foods. Each month they feature about a dozen plants for in person visitors on special. They bring a few flats of each to a small room in front for you to select. You can order anything they have from the catalog out in the greenhouses, but that area is strictly off limits and you get their pick. They have a portapotty. No other amenities. They are really not in person customer service oriented, but they have just a few in person customers once a month a few times a year. I traveled out there to get some tea plants. All the teas: green, red (not rooibos), black, oolong and pu'er are made from the same plant: camellia sinensis, part of the family of camellia flowering bushes. The different types are determined by how the tea leaves are dried and cured. A 3" pot of 18" tall tea plant there costs $15, $10 on special that weekend. They have a plant that hopefully will be a little winter cold tolerant. So I'll tell you how my tea plantation goes. The Nurseries web guide nurseryguide.com allows you to look up any plant by botanical name and find out which of 1300 Oregon nurseries have it, in what size and rough quantities. That is how I found the only place in Oregon that has tea plants - One Green World. Worth visiting when they are the only ones that have something you want. read more

We came to One Green World looking to find some columnar fruit trees and possibly some other plants for the garden. It isn't a huge nursery, but they do have a lot of different varieties to choose from, and the selection feels well organized. We ultimately didn't purchase anything here because none of the plants had price tags. I didn't see anyone to ask, and honestly I wouldn't want to be constantly asking about the price of each item I was interested in. I ended up using my phone to look up each item on their website, but the prices varied based on the pot size, and it wasn't obvious what the size of each pot was. Depending on the pot size, the price of the item could more than double! We ended up going to Portland Nursery and found the items we were looking for. I'm not sure if we paid more or less there, but at least I knew how much each item was going to cost. I'd love to try One Green World again because they had a lot of unique items, but I'd rather not have to guess at the price of each one. read more

Horrible customer service. I ordered the lingonberry bundle which included 4 plants. I receive 3. When I inform one green world they refuse to help other than offering a $10 coupon. They refuse to follow there own policy. Of 10 days to report damage. I would not recommend buy from them you may not get what you ordered. read more

I ordered three pawpaw trees which were supposed to be in one gallon pots. It took over a week for them to arrive. What I got was dried out bare root trees. The pots were indeed one gallon size but the packing was poor and all of the dirt was bone dry and not in the pots. You could tell that the roots of the trees had never grown into the soil. read more

I gotta say, i'm a little surprised by the reviews here. I've gotten a small variety of plants from OGW, and they've all been as described, healthy, well-packaged (for the ones that were shipped), and met or exceeded my expectations. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful, by phone, email, or in person (yes, i've done all three). About the only negative thing i have to say about OGW is that their SE Portland location looks like a warehouse not intended for walk-in customers. It is, sorta, in that you don't get to frolic with the plants, but you can just walk in off the street and buy things. They need to put a sign up to make it clear from the street that it's a retail location. I'm lazy, and refuse to spend my time and effort on plants that don't give me something tasty to eat in return. OGW's stock is almost entirely edibles, mostly fruits. You can walk in and say things like 'I want a tree,' and they'll help you figure out what kind of tree fits you and your yard. They have mundane things like apples and plums, but also a lot of obscure things like feijoas and pawpaws and korean bush cherry. And since they're local, a lot of what they sell is pretty much guaranteed to thrive here. Unless my feijoa bushes crawl out of the ground and slash my tires, i will recommend this company to anyone who wants to grow tasty and colorful things in their yard. read more

Absolutely horrible service. Still no plants. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. We ordered our plants on a Saturday, and we were told that they would ship on Monday. A week and a half later, we have no plants, and I decide to call Customer Service to find out what happened, and how I can get my plants and my shipping money refunded, since obviously nothing has shipped. Right away, instead of being empathetic, they argue with me about whether I paid for delivery. So I have to scan my invoice (thankfully I kept that) that shows the $21 delivery charge. At this point, after consulting with management, I'm told that they will not spend a cent to correct the issue, and I can either pay for them to deliver it to somewhere else in Portland, or drive back out to their physical location (over an hour away). I asked for a full refund. Hopefully they actually send that out, unlike the plants that they promised to send. read more

I purchased 8 one-gallon Chilean Guava plants in the fall of 2017. I was told they should survive our Gladstone, Oregon winter. Unfortunately this proved to be wrong. This spring, three of them died quickly, and the remaining five have shown no signs of making it. When I dug them, I found the roots had all disappeared back to the four-inch pot mass they had originally grown in. Hopefully this will help others not to make my mistake. For the record, this review, in no way, critical of the staff at One Green World. I purchase several other plants that are doing very well and would recommend this nursery to anyone looking to purchase unique plants. read more
