Scorpion and snake sculptures
Ruth B.

I've seen this place from the freeway a zillion times but this was my first visit. I was actually using it as a meeting place for someone who lives further up north. I decided to shop around before heading home. I was stunned by how big it is. The assortment of pottery is mind boggling. They have beautiful, healthy plants as well. I used restraint and didn't purchase any houseplants today but I did get 2 tomato plants that I needed. But the art! Oh so many sculptures. I'm serious when I say just go to check out the sculptures. They are creative and magnificent. I will need to come back when I have a couple hours to walk around and dream because this place is somewhere that deserves my time. The prices were very reasonable and the staff were great. I was there on a Thursday morning and it was quiet. Just me and my plants.

Located in Sunol along 680. I would pass by this nursery all the time and I would always tell myself that I would stop by and see what was in here. The place has a small lot but there is a ton of parking along the street too. You can just park and walk over to the nursery. The place is huge. They have a a whole greenhouse of house plants, a whole lot of ceramics, a lot of succulents/fruits/vegetables/herb plants, and a greenhouse full of clearance items. You could spent a good amount of time here browsing. Everything was very decently priced. The ceramic pots here are super cute and super affordable. The employees were all super helpful and made sure to help us with finding the things we needed.

Beautiful large terracotta pots. $80/each.

Whenever we need pots we've come to this outlet. They have a great selection, especially of larger sized ones. We found huge terracotta pots for our 15 gallon olive trees at $80 a piece which is a lot but if you shop around are actually a great price. We've also purchased a beautiful elephant ear plant for $60 and it was huge! I promise you'll walk away with either a plant or a pot. It's also a beautiful place to walk around. BTW, while you're in Sunol, take a drive around town...it's gorgeous!!! WE found a little restaurant and got lunch...loved.

Beautiful nursery with a great variety of plants and planters. They have pots of every size and every color. I was impressed to see pottery from Malaysia and some from Tunisia. 4-star because of service. Not a friendly staff I would sGot some pots from the graveyard ( that is what their clearance section is called), at great prices. Will definitely go back here only when needed.

Pretty arrangements, not for sale

We stopped in today and just didn't love the selection or layout of the store. If you're in the market for a planter, this is a fantastic spot. But the ratio of plants to planters was really off for someone who wants to just plant items into the ground. The place is decorated nicely and sweet looking in areas. Couldn't really get used to the loud freeway noise when shopping out back. Didn't find any care tags on the plants, and no one around to ask questions to when needed. Some nice arrangements that aren't for sale, but enjoyed looking at them.

Tip of the iceberg!

It's a yes for us ! Plant and Pottery Outlet has thousands of pots! All shapes, sizes and a variety of other types of planters. I'm talking about squirrels, turtles, and others. It's another favorite of ours located in the middle of nowhere. Well, not really but it is in Sunol so it is a bit of a drive for some. We find it worth thee drive because we love our plants and they all deserve a proper planter! It's a five star place to buy planters and they have very competitive pricing!

6" philodendron $8.99

Yesterday was my second visit to this establishment. I came with the purpose of purchasing some potting mix spring time repotting and checking out their plant selection. I got three 2 cu ft bags for $9.99 each - a pretty good value (as advertised on their website). After spending some time with the indoor plants, I had the self-control to walk away without snagging one. The temptation was strong! I found some lush trailing plants, like neon pothos, Swiss cheese plants, and Philodendron micans. The inventory was fully stocked as compared to my first visit a few years ago during the fall season when there were far fewer plants. Even at the counter, I had to resist the impulse buy of a variegated string of hearts (more than likely for Valentine's Day round the corner). I wish I had the space at home for more plants. An employee even helped me load the heavy bags into my car trunk. Wonderful overall experience.

I am so happy that I caught this place while driving on the highway. I have never seen so many varieties of pots in my life. They even have a nice clearance section with some good options. The staff was very helpful and did all the heavy lifting. They are so friendly and professional. I even ran out of cellphone charge and they let me use theirs. I will be returning!

I love this house of succulents.

I've passed by this place multiple times driving through 680 but finally stopped this past weekend to check out the pottery schedule. While there's a good selection of plants, I'm guessing this place is known mostly for their extensive collection of pots. The pots come in a variety of sizes and price points. The clearance section is in the back, across the creek area. You can find some great discounts in this area. The kids loved seeing all the animal statues made out of metal scattered all over the place. You'll even spot a couple in the creek as you cross over the small bridge. My favorite feature is the house filled with succulents on the exterior.

2020 is the year of newbie gardeners born from being trapped at home - pandemic turned plantdemic. I'm sort of one of those, though technically I got my start last year. Decided to check out the Plant and Pottery Outlet as I was getting tired of looking at the selection of pots at big box stores. Heard a number of recommendations from fellow gardeners and decided to scope PPO out. Took a nice little drive out and this place is smacked in a slightly rural area off 680. They definitely have a ton of pots - glazed and unglazed, clay, ceramic, concrete, different shapes & sizes. This is an ideal place if you're looking for large to huge planters - wouldn't be surprised if this is where businesses and commercial buildings get their pots. There's also a decent selection of green foliaged plants, houseplants, and succulents (didn't notice any flowering plants). I did see more people buying pots than plants and got the vibe that this place was more about pots. Cool green wagons make it easier for hauling your stuff around. On the downside, one of the first things I noticed walking around was the quality of the pots - especially the glazed ones. The finishings were a bit rough with blemishes or the edges of the pots would be missing paint. It looks like a lot of these pots were imported from Asia. If I had to guess, they probably weren't made in factory with quality control. This is good if you like pots that look a bit more homemade. For me, considering the quality and price points, I'd prefer to go elsewhere to get a better quality pot for the same price. That said, the non-glazed pots seemed to be better on quality, possibly due to how they're processed or the pots are being sourced from different locations. BTW - if you're looking for small to medium pots (i.e. 2" to 8"), the selection will be limited. Most of the pots are larger than that. Regarding service - it was a bit disappointing that they only had one cashier during a bustling weekend afternoon. I mulled whether or not I wanted to stay in line, but decided to suck it up since I made the drive out. Note that you can only return an item the same day; I think you can return for store credit within 14 days if I recall correctly. I get that a business needs to make money, but from the quality of the pots, to the single cashier, to a same day return policy just left me feeling like maximizing profits was the #1 goal here. Nothing wrong with that, but I didn't walk away feeling too warm and fuzzy about my visit. Overall, I still think this is a decent place if you're looking for a good selection on large and XL pots.

Part of the grounds. Gonna be fabulous one day. Pretty cool now!

If you have ever driven on 680 through Sunol on the grade you know this place. All the pots & planters you see, yep that place. I have lived in the area most of my life and always wanted to stop. Never did. Until now. I was excited! parked and grabbed a wagon. Started in and felt like a kid in a candy store... Small succulents $2.49 okay good prices. They didn't have anything I didn't already have so didn't get any of those. Some of the ceramic and terracotta planters are as tall as me. They have unique and beautiful ones. I could've made a hot tub in one of those bigger ones. The hot tub sized one was $399. A lot were $149-179! They also have some regular sized ones for regular homes & apartments seen a few $9.99-19.99 as well as a clearance area for people like me... The grounds are gorgeous and very large wandering is encouraged. Social distancing is very easy and mostly it is outdoors. They have a good selection of house plants in open air greenhouses. Some are pricey. Some reasonable. From $4.99-179.00 Plants are better looking and healthier than most home improvement and big box stores. Therefore you may pay slightly more. The only thing I didn't like was checkout. The lady gave me a total when I walked up? She said she knew the prices?! WAIT WHAT?! How could she have known I got some stuff from clearance?? I paid and felt ripped off all the way home. So you can't see how much is being rung up and then the receipt isn't itemized... BUT...I calculated everything when I got home and it was right. I felt like I was ripped off. BUT I WASN'T... They really should update the register so you can see the charges$$ Also when I spoke to one of the caretaker's and asked about certain plants he was very dismissive, oh well...GOOGLE! Still a good place totally recommend, just watch carefully at checkout.

Late review I have always wanted to stop by this outlet and after all these years, we finally did, on the way to the Livermore outlets. This outlet is huge and very well organized. Hundreds of various pottery - small to extra large sizes, shapes, and colors. Small tented indoor area containing houseplants and walking further in to the lot, you cross a small bridge area to a small nursery of outdoor plants and succulents. Another large tented area containing discounted pottery. Various colors of bird baths available too! Lots to see, although didn't find the prices particularly discounted for an outlet.

Pots and more pots
Olivia C.

Pottery of every shape and size for very reasonable prices! Here on Memorial Day weekend and though there's plenty of people here, we're all very spaced out until we're out checkout. From small glazed pots ($3) for succulents and lucky bamboo to pots large ($500) enough for me to curl into one! Tall, short, wide, round, square. If you want a clay pot, this is your place! There are also plants but there weren't that many probably because everyone already came and bought them. There were still small succulents, mandarin orange fruit trees, small avocado, Meyer lemon trees, agave, ficus and more! Customer service wise, these people are wonderful. I saw them helping customers find pots and after we purchased our large pots, one of the employees helped us wheel it to our car and put it in the trunk with cardboard to separate them so they wouldn't clink and chip. Definitely would recommend this place!

Ask the Community - Plant and Pottery Outlet

Hi! I noticed you guys had free compost and was wondering if it's safe to use for my raised garden bed for veggies and herbs?

Hi, Lynn! Yes. It is a great medium to plant your vegetable and herb garden. It is composed of rice hulls and fully composted horse manure, which we receive from our neighbors at Arriba Vista ranch.

Can we just take some compost from where it says free compost?

Yes! Help yourself to as much as you need. Bring your own shovel and container. The pile is refreshed often by our neighbors at Arriba Vista Horse Ranch and contains decomposed horse manure and rice hulls.
