This place has been around as long as I can remember. As a kid my grandma used to bring me here when I visited in the mid 70's. You can imagine my excitement when in 2024 the same building I remember as a kid is still there. The smells, the flavor OMG I was so happy. I had not been to Porterville in over 40 years. I've been hearing about this place since we have been staying in porterville back in September and finally got a change to visit. It is a really cute place, I expected it to be more dodgey, idk why it's just what I imagined! They obviously have more than just jerky. Dried fruit, nuts, pickled olives, chocolate, and candy. The ingredients are really good too, the things I looked at were made with whole food ingredients and the flavorings were made from the actual ingredient the flavor comes from. Not ubiquitous like "natural flavors" I got banana chips, orange almonds, dried mango, and peppery garlic jerky. I've tried everything but the bananas. The mango taste like a mango version of those orange slice candies. It's slightly sweet and so gummy! Love it! The orange almonds literally taste like I'm eating an orange, it's a weird sensation, like a crunchy delicious orange! The jerky was ok, I would say I was expecting more. The flavor is good, spicy (because we got the extra hot version). So the flavor was there but the texture and consistency of the jerky was a little flat. It was kinda dry, like I know jerky is dried meat, but it seemed dry like it was old. I do wanna try other jerky and see if it was just that bag. Plano Jerky has been a holiday or celebration staple in my family. As a kid, my father would travel up and down California and would always stop by, grab beef jerky, bring it home for my brother, our lab Ginger, and I. Plano Jerky holds memories and to this day continues to be our absolute favorite. The consistency and the flavor have never changed. I even enjoy the note on invoices saying thank you. A great shopping trip to Plano! We took a detour off the 99 on the way home from Oregon and it was well worth it! We stocked up on all our favorite jerky and snacks! I took my boyfriend back to the small town I grew up and showed him a taste of as many Porterville staples we could squeeze in during our short visit. Next to the Orange Works Cafe, Plano Jerky will always be at the top of the list. The store itself is small and the products are a little pricey. Last time we visited, I spent $28 on jerky. $28 dollars on BEEF JERKY. Who does that? I DO because it is worth every penny. I agree with Morty P., this is EASILY THE BEST beef jerky I've ever had! No artificial preservatives or flavoring; yet it is so tender, so juicy, so DELICIOUS! The Ho-Shi Teriyaki Beef Jerky is my absolute favorite! I am giving this business 2 stars because of the last purchase. I used to buy jerky from Plano years ago when I lived in porterville. I have since move to Orange County and sent my my daughter in to buy a pound of jerky . Wow what a change. The jerky is definitely not the quality I was used to . I don't know what happened.? Change of ownership.? Change of management.? But the Quality of products was found lacking.. the bag of the peppered teriyaki looked like it was made from a bunch of scraps of meat with chewy threads all in it. The pepped original I purchased you couldn't even taste the pepper flavor.( This was sampled by more than one person by the way cause I like sharing.) so my review stands until the next visit if by chance I give them a second chance.? read more

This is one of those hole in the wall treat. We've been going here for years. Very unique in flavor for both jerky and other items such as candies and nuts. I've gone to them to pack birthday gifts and Christmas gifts. They provide gift bags, very inexpensive, professionally package. I've always been a fan of Plano Jerky. But most recently, days following up to Christmas, I had a bad experience while shopping. Upon arrival, there was not any jerky in sight. So as I'm browsing what other items I could purchase, the worker at Plano Jerky on Henderson turned the lights off while I was still looking. I'm assuming this was a way for him to indicate he was closing rather than telling me it was time for me to leave. My recommendation is, if you find that it is getting close to closing hours, find it in your best interest to communicate that. Not turn off the lights as I'm still shopping. This one person made a bad representation of Plano Jerky's business. I will not be returning to purchase items in the future. read more
