I gave birth to my daughter at Plano Birthplace in October 2021 and it was an amazing experience. Right before my third trimester, I had a few complications arise. I got a pretty bad case of COVID and then developed a rare condition called Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), but Jeannine was there for me every step of the way. She consulted with multiple doctors throughout the rest of my pregnancy and I always felt like I was in the best of hands. During and after the delivery, Jeannine and the rest of the birth team made me feel so supported and encouraged. They were very attentive to all my needs and let me do everything at my own pace. I gave birth to my first daughter in a hospital, but I didn't have the best experience. I wanted something different the next time around. Delivering my second daughter in the birth center was so much better than my hospital birth. I felt encouraged and empowered. Plus, the recovery was much easier. I cant put a price tag on the high level of care and passion they put into their work. I have never felt like just another patient, and they are always available! It's been a blessing especially during the COVID pandemic, and all the unknowns that came with delivering in a hospital. The PBP team has been so accommodating especially with my work schedule! When I needed additional blood work done they offered to have me bring my laptop and gave me my own room so I could still join my meetings virtually. We had a wonderful experience with Plano Birthplace! The prenatal care was amazing. They worked around my and my husband's schedule so that he could come to sonograms and some appointments. There was never anyone else in the waiting room and I was always seen pretty close to my appointment time. As a first time mom, I had tons of questions and concerns and they patiently answered all of them. It was especially great because they provide a phone number you can text when questions come up between visits. It was such a relief to be able to send a "Is this normal?" text and get a response quickly. The midwives were very easy to talk to. They always provided evidence based options and then allowed me to make choices without any pressure or judgement. Our birth was just as great as our prenatal care. The birth center was beautiful and private. You arrive when you are ready and there's no paperwork to complete in a busy waiting room like in a hospital. You just go right in and labor in peace with your support people (whoever you want-no limits like the hospitals currently have) and the midwife and her team. The midwife supports your goal of a non-medicated birth by helping you to move labor along with changes in positions etc. She is never pushy but provides gentle guidance to help you reach your goal! The postpartum care was also very good. From the care we received in the couple hours after our birth before we went home (another benefit of giving birth in a birth center was that we were home within a few hours of our birth) to the 2 day (in our home-another plus!), 2 week, 6 week, and 12 week visits we felt very supported. Throughout the process the midwives helped us build a network of support people that made a huge difference for us. We had access to a great lactation consultant, a great chiropractor, a great nurse after our 2 day check up, in addition to the midwives. We hope to return to Plano Birthplace to have future babies! It truly was a wonderful experience and I will miss seeing my midwives until our next pregnancy. read more

Absolutely the best choice for birthing our second child. We birthed at a different birthing center with our first. After a miserable experience, I knew I wanted a new provider. I was on the fence about trying a birthing center again. Still, a friend of mine spoke of having an incredible experience at PBP after herself having a less than ideal first birth center birth. During our first visit, Jeannine spent time really listening to our first birth story. Every detail that I wanted to share. I could tell that she cared about us, and she tried to find out what went wrong with the first go around. I felt like she was competent and caring, which is what I was looking for in a midwife. The facility was also beautiful and immaculate. The cleanliness really stuck out to my husband. Additionally, we were cash pay, and the price at PBP was very reasonable. After comparing many local providers, I found that their price was the best. Some of the services the price included was a breastfeeding class, a childbirth class, the anatomy ultrasound, and the newborn hearing test. All of these I paid for out of pocket at my previous provider. Also, the midwives at PBP are Certified Nurse Midwives, and ultimately that saved us money. They were able to prescribe two medications that I would have had to go to a doctor for if we were being seen by a Certified Professional Midwife. I found that the prenatal care was accessible, toddler-friendly, and evidence-based. About halfway through my prenatal care, Lindsay began working as a midwife at the practice. I was afraid that I wasn't going to be able to connect with her like I had Jeannine, and thankfully I was able to communicate that plainly. It was so well received, and I actually had no problem at all connecting with her. I found the prenatal care accessible in that I was able to call or text anytime I had a concern. I never was made to feel like I was bothering them. The care was also toddler-friendly. I took my 2-year old to every appointment, and both of the midwives were patient and kind to him. The facility has toys in the waiting area and the exam room, toys my son liked playing with. And he was included in the appointments by letting him help take my blood pressure and find the baby's heartbeat. I also appreciated when I had a question that the midwives did not have the answer to, they did not just formulate a convincing response. They just said we would like to do some more research before giving me an answer. I found the practice was very evidenced-based. Many times I was even sent scientific research articles to help me make better choices. Our birth was redemptive and adaptive. I experienced prodromal labor, so that meant I had many "false alarms" the days leading up to the delivery. There was a point over the weekend before giving birth that I felt confused and concerned by some things I was experiencing. I was met at the birthing center on a Sunday to see what was going on. It was such a helpful meeting. Once active labor began a few days later, it was quick and very different from my first. While we were walking out to leave for the birthing center, I suddenly had the urge to push, and we knew that our plans would have to change. Immediately Jeannine gave my husband precise instructions on what to do. She video-chatted with my husband and doula while Lindsay drove to our home. Our healthy baby was delivered 10 minutes later, caught by my husband, and Jeannine walked us through what to do next as we waited for the placenta. Once Lindsay arrived, she had everything needed to take care of the baby and me. By the time Jeannine came, I was already stitched up and tucked into my own bed. I highly recommend checking out PBP and meeting Jeannine and Lindsay. After having a birth at a hospital and one at the Plano Birthplace, I will choose the PBP over and over again. It was such an incredible experience from the moment I met them to 12 weeks postpartum. My first appointment was at a doctors office where I was ridden with anxiety at the task of keeping my busy toddler still and quiet in the waiting room where we waited for over 30 mins to be seen. I felt like I was a burden and rude for having to bring my son with me to the office. Fast forward to my first appointment at the birthplace, where the first thing we saw when we walked in was a corner filled with toys. There is never another patient in the waiting room at the same time as you and I never waited more than just a few minutes. The midwife welcomed my son into the room with us, engaged with him, and included him in the care of his new sister. This meant the world to me. I can't speak enough about the individualized care that you will receive at the PBP. I absolutely loved my previous doctor, but at the end of the day I knew that I was one out of the hundreds of patients she had to keep up with. If I needed something or had a question, I had to call the nurses line, leave a message, and hope that they would call me back by the next day. The PBP only allows 7 women to be due within a month. This means that you are seen, heard, and known. You are not just a number out of hundreds. They truly know you and your family. If you need something you can call or text the office and get a quick reply. Once you are close to your due date you will be given a special number that will directly get you in contact with the midwife. As a labor and delivery nurse myself, I see firsthand how at the hospital "the business of being born" is a very real thing. It is very rare for a patient to enter the hospital and birth a baby without being augmented (given medicine to make labor faster). You will never feel rushed by Jeannine or Lindsay and you will never feel hurried to have a baby so that they make it home on time for dinner. One night I felt concerned about my baby's movement. Jeannine welcomed me into the center late at night after she just finished cleaning up from a birth and made sure I didn't leave until I felt reassured that everything was ok. The midwives want the birth that you want. They will accommodate your wishes within reason and help you achieve the birth that you envisioned. At the same time, they will not let you or your baby be in danger. They are not like other midwives who will do everything possible to make sure you get your desired home or birth center birth. Their goal is to keep you safe and will transfer you and continue to take care of you at the hospital. Weeks into my prenatal care I learned that my personal insurance would not cover midwifery care. I could have very easily switched to a doctor at this time. While it was not a smart financial decision to stay, it was the best decision for my family emotionally and physically. I could not even fathom the thought of leaving their practice and we do not regret our decision. I can only hope that my family will still be in Dallas for Jeannine and Lindsay to care for us in our next pregnancies. I can't say enough how personalized the care is at PBP. It was everything that I wanted and more than I expected. I am so thankful for Jeaninne and Lindsay and cherish the relationship I built with them. After 2 slightly traumatic in hospital births with traditional OB care and epidurals, I wanted my 3rd and last birth to be a completely different experience and I couldn't have been happier with my choice to go with Jeannine and Lindsay at Plano Birthplace. The care and service they gave me throughout my entire pregnancy was deeply personal and so much more than I anticipated. Jeannine took the time to get to know me and encouraged me through the entire pregnancy so that I would be ready for birth. Once it was time to have my baby, she and Lindsay were the most amazing and supportive team during labor. They knew just what to do to make sure baby would enter the world as smoothly as possible. Let me start by saying the prenatal care is just how I wanted, no cervical checks, minimal testing, natural alternatives to medication natural induction recommendations. The only bump in the road was that they make you pay out of pocket for the ultrasounds and additional testing and this really wasn't made clear to me beforehand, Jeannine would schedule an ultrasound for me and then I would be asked for $200 by the technician afterwards. He was really unprofessional too. But I ignored my feelings at the time that Jeannine felt a little scattered and I ignored the unprofessionalism of the technician because I didn't think it mattered. Ladies, all of this matters. Trust your gut! My water broke 8 days after my due date at 8pm and contractions immediately started 5 min apart so we headed to the birth center around 2am. Everything really was fine but I was progressing so. Slow. I didn't keep track of time but I know it had been a full day of laboring and my water had been broken for a long time. They'll tell you this is not a problem and will let you labor with broken water for 36 hours. I felt the urge to push and after a couple pushes and not feeling relief, only strong pinching, they checked me. I'm at a 6. They didn't tell me I'm at a 6, they said there's a lip of cervix over the babies head and I need to try all these different positions to move it. They didn't work. So Jeannine says she's going to try pushing the cervix out of the way so babies head can come through. She did it twice, it didn't work, because IM ONLY AT A 6! And let me tell you. That was so extremely painful I was screaming this whole time. My fiancé told me she was googling what to do in this situation. I didn't notice, but my gut told me I had to get to the hospital. When I asked Jeannine what options I had left she said I just had to resist the urge to push. Anyone who has had to resist the urge to push knows that it's nearly impossible, especially when you've been in labor for 24 hrs and are very tired and weak. So I said to my fiancé get our stuff we are leaving. A small VERY IMPORTANT detail that was not made clear to me(even though it's in the paperwork she gives you, I know) is that it's Texas health presby in DALLAS that she has rights at. Well, since there's Texas health presby PLANO less than 5 min away I of course assumed it was that one. Nope. She expects you, in the event of an emergency where you need to get to the hospital, to drive 25 minutes to the hospital in Dallas that she has rights at! This is totally insane to me. When we realized we were at the wrong hospital she told me to get up and leave. Ummm. At that point I was already about to get my epidural so I could stop pushing. She continued texting me totally unprofessional throughout the rest of my birth and the next day. When the hospital told me I was only a 6 I was so appalled, I had been pushing for hours. My water had been broken for over 24 hrs. Me and baby were getting an infection, and my baby had pooped inside of me. I remember seeing green amniotic fluid come out a couple hrs earlier and Jeannine assured me it was normal. She also neglected to tell me that I had a fever. I ended up with a c section. My baby had to go to the nicu. After I got settled at home I reached out to Jeannine to see what we would do about payment since I paid in full already and would now have a big hospital bill. I had my fiancé call her because I had a newborn and I was going through anxiety and didn't want to deal with it. She was totally UNPROFESSIONAL yelling on the phone with him and accusatory saying he accused her of trying to kill our baby. he said he wanted a cost breakdown of what we paid for. She could not provide that. Our insurance ended up covering most of it, and she sent us a portion back that the insurance covered. That is rare that insurance will pay for 2 births of the same baby. I got lucky. I was left with horrible anxiety crying every day thinking "what if" I hadn't gone to the hospital. "What if" insurance hadn't covered it. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
