Made an appointment which was completely pointless had me waiting 3 hours in the lounge would not recommend

I had a surgical procedure done here and everyone treated me with such kindness and tenderness. They made me as comfortable as possible and were there every step of the way ready to answer any questions or concerns. Went as a walk in about a week ago. I can say that I'm extremely happy about my experience there. The receptionist wasn't that helpful or nice but it really didn't bother me. I was actually anxious to to there because alot of the comments here say what a horrible place it is. That was not the case for me. I got in pretty quickly since I know I was a walk in n expected a long wait time I got there at about 8:30. I was talking to aedical assistant by 9. Left by 9:30. They helped me get the birth control I needed. They were over all really nice and very informative. I totally recommend this place and to ask as many questions as it takes! read more

Today I went back to this place now the first visit was amazing and I was taken care of with respect and care . Today absolutely NOT . The lady who was giving me my prescriptions who is African American just like I am was very RUDE AND AGGRESSIVE . The moment she walked in the door she was very demanding she didn't come in like the normal doctors who ask how I'm doing etc she also gave me a bag full of condoms that I NEVER REQUESTED I don't know if she was trying to be funny but it isn't funny when I AM ALLERGIC TO LATEX they asked me twice about allergies and STILL GAVE THEM ??? This lady definitely made me feel uncomfortable that I don't think I want to proceed any longer to come back . Oh and let's not forget to mention I asked for a pregnancy test and she denied me because of whatever her beliefs are that she felt I didn't need one . Wtf ? Only reason why I'm giving two stars instead of one is because the doctor was great but the girls at the front desk are SO RUDE. And as I can see from multiple reviews, I'm not the only one that feels this way. I had an appointment at 11:30am, it was now 2:30pm and I still hadn't been called in. I kindly expressed that I had been waiting 3 hours and that the last 4 people that got called in came in after me, plus I had an appointment and 2 of them didnt!! I went to go ask if anything was wrong (I was thinking maybe they accidentally skipped over my name), the girl at the front desk was extremely rude, she cut me off in the middle of talking and said in the most condescending tone "yea it's a long wait, please go have a seat" and completely dismissed me. Didn't try to look into it or acknowledge anything, basically just shooed me away. I am a very patient person and hate complaining but the wait time was ridiculous and all I needed was a birth control refill. Please hire new receptionists, those girls are extremely impolite. Change of review, Fatima a MA attended me at first well and was cool and I'm drained so I even look tired so I wasn't speaking much. When I go inside the room I start asking questions and let her know (concerns) she goes to ask if I can still be looked at internally. Comes back and we start discussing the situation and she starts giving me attitude and was being rude. I'm so out of it I don't want to put exact words unless there accurate but when I was voicing my concerns and questions she stood there looked at me and was completely un ethical and sassy towards me I even told her you know what can you just do the blood work, proceeds to say you know what I'm going to get someone else and storms out like a brat. Supervisor comes she sweet I told her my side and let her know it's not okay for her employee to act like that because she wasn't being disrespected and I am in all my right to ask as many questions as I like. She has knowledge in things I don't and for her to have a customer feel uncomfortable when she asking about personal matters is disgusting. Supervisor started with "I know you were COMPLAINING about the wait" she is sweet she's doing her job but that's also unprofessional to word it that way! It's not about being sensitive but respect. She could've said " i know you had some concerns on the wait time" but regardless she did hear me out even if it might of been fake she was in all still ethical. But these young girls need to understand that in all times you have to maintain a good persona because not everyone that goes in there feels comfortable or sometimes goes in there so worried and to be treated with no respect is shameful for the field they chose to work themselves as. I wish there was a camera or I would've recorded hoe it went down! Fatima was the medical assistant I will be putting a complain in with whoever I can. This isn't a bar and you don't have the right to get rowdy with any customer. Shame on you. And your peers for siding and/or laughing at the situation. Came in with my friend for her appt., and let's just say that lady in the front is very rude and miserable. Poor costumer service. She should look for a different career if her primary goal isn't to help others in need. Update: Her name is "Sophie" Denied visit for walk in- I over heard her telling her co workers that I was "mad at the world". I fired back and said she was the one angry because she has a giant ice pack on her face. Very terrible and upsetting. It's kinda humorous.. Not intimidated by her nor interested in using the services. Just wanted to prove a point and approve everyone's comments below about her. Hence, the reason I came was with my girlfriend who had an appt. I think she should have asked for a doctors note for her tooth ache and took the day off. My sister and I went to this location. Online and on the door it says that they have walk ins pretty much everyday except for Wednesday. So why is it that it's Tuesday at 9 ish am and they told my sister they don't have walk ins. They need to update their information if that's the case. Waste of our time. read more

I just want to start off by saying that I hope this review helps someone if they are feeling nervous or scared. It's okay to feel this way, you are NOT alone. I had a surgical procedure done last Wednesday. The staff, nurses, and doctors care about you. They want to make sure you are okay, comfortable, and that you know you will be okay. From pre-procedure, procedure, and after care, it all seems like a blur. You will be taken care of and you will be okay. I was there from 5:30 am to 12:30 pm because they wanted to ensure I was okay- and I am doing more than okay. Please, get your procedure or pill from PP and not a different clinic. This is safe and you will be taken care of from start to finish. I just wanted to say that my nurses in after care and my doctor were angels. I kept thanking them as they comforted not only me but the others the whole time. This isn't just a business and you aren't just a number or quota. You are important and they will show you that, I promise. read more

All of these other reviews are pretty dated, and the apparent "pro-choice" male down there is a JOKE. He obviously has never even been inside the place and would just like to spread his politics across a well organized women's (and men's!) health center's reputation. So, here is my first-hand experience with the lovely ladies at the Van Nuys Planned Parenthood: As an EXTREMELY last minute walk-in, I expected to wait a long time, having read the reviews for this establishment. I needed to get to work by 11:30 am, and needed a refill on my birth control pills ASAP, as my insurance for my GP had ended, and was unable to get a refill from them. I got to the center at 7:30, hoping to beat a rush of early birds, so I could get in and out as fast as I could. They promptly opened their doors at 8, I signed in along with two women with appointments and one other walk-in, and we were all with doctors within the hour! It was my first time at any Planned Parenthood, and I was nervous (though I had no reason to be), but the women working there were extremely accommodating and nice to me! I wasn't really expecting to get served so quickly, but was hoping I would qualify for their plan to get inexpensive contraception, and I was surprised when my doctor gave me a whole year's worth of my birth control - for FREE! They didn't have my kind on-hand, so she gave me a written prescription to go to Ralph's with - and THEY had it within 15 minutes. Based on the past reviews for this Planned Parenthood, I thought I would be spending at least 4 hours here, and would have to possibly leave without the pills to make it to work on time, but in total, I spent about 2 hours! And only about 45 minutes of that was waiting! Shame on you all for expecting super fast service anyway; Planned Parenthood is free for us and hardly gets government funding. These women work HARD. I understand that FREE health care is something to be appreciated, but then again so are MANNERS, POLITENESS, and A SENSE OF TIME. This place is always packed with girls and their screaming babies. The wait WILL be at least two hours (even with an appointment). The ladies behind the glass are generally rude with the exception of young girl with braces. She is nice (which is why I give this place 1 star, thank you braces girl). They do provide you with your desired services. You just have to endure this cesspool for your entire morning. I recommend the Burbank or Canoga Park locations. read more

Context Context Context This is a Planned Parenthood (already underfunded, understaffed, and unappreciated) located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. It is packed with young women (usually) without health insurance or are afraid their parents are going to find out about their sexual behavior. As for me, I do not have health coverage and make very little money, so I don't have many options in terms of birth control resources. I go here every three months for the depo shot and once a year for my annual exam. Its a very long wait, bring a book. When you get called back they'll take you to a second waiting room. Once I waited over 3 hours. Just be patient, whining will not get you anywhere but the end of their very long list. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, you'll still have to wait forever, but it will shave off at least an half an hour. I've found their staff to be overall nice and understanding. Especially the girl with the braces(sorry I don't know her name) she is very sweet and it feels like she is really trying to make things run smoothly and as efficiently as possible. read more

I like this location better than burbank, I have been going to pph since I was a teen. I feel this pph in van nuys is the best one. The staff is friendly and helpful. The wait wasn't long and the paper work was quick. I tip my hat to ppl faculty, it is hard to deal with impatient people and attitudes especially from people who expect to be in and out quickly . I usually expect to be there from an hour to about 5 hours. I recommend arriving there early, the wait isn't long. Also I recommend mind your P's and Q's. I have seen few patients yell at the women behibd the glass its disrespectful. If you want proper service be polite. The light at the end of the tunnel for health-insurance-lacking ladies who need a pap smear and contraceptives! I walked out of there like I just came from Willy Wonka's, with a bag full of free goodies: contraceptive pills for a year, 1 morning-after pill and a few condoms. They do ask you to contribute with a donation, if you are able to. This center also does free HIV 10 minute tests (yeah, THAT fast) and other STD tests. For exams, you need to call 1-800-576-5544 and make an appointment through their automated system. No walk-ins are allowed for exams. It can sort of take awhile to get an appointment, and it's also quite a wait once you're actually there, but it's a free pap and contraceptives if you qualify -- hello?! Susanna was awesome! Very helpful, informative and kind. I felt very comfortable talking to her. The clinic is very clean and the building is located at a little plaza, almost next door to a Pizza Hut, and opposite side of the street from Sizzler. There's tons of parking. While at Planned Parenthood, I found out there's another clinic (Miracle Women's Medical Clinic) at that same plaza. I haven't been, but just so you know, this Planned Parenthood at Van Nuys doesn't do mammograms, yet the other clinic does. However, that other clinic doesn't do abortions as Planned Parenthood does. I may drop by that new clinic soon, since I can get the mammogram I couldn't get at PP, and when I do, I'll be reviewing them too. read more

This is my local planned parenthood, and I come around here every 8 months to get a refill on my nuvaring prescription. I have health insurance, but I am a broke college student and cannot afford paying 40+ dollars per nuvaring that kp charges. The doctors and nurses are very helpful and were attentive to my complaints about the nuvaring and found a problem I would have otherwise ignored. The only bad thing about this place is that it took me an hour and a half to get seen and I got there when the place opened. I too know of the braces nurse. She is very nice and helpful. Like that ho below me stated, this place does provide desirable health services for free, which is awesome. However, the wait time blows (2 hours +) but it's something I put up with once a year so unless you have to go here every month, its bearable. This Planned Parenthood is smack dab in the heart of lovely Van Nuys, so it's a given that there will always be hynas rolling around this spot. They always seem to be rambling on their phones about some dumb high school dramz, so that's kind of annoying if you have to spend a lot of time in the waiting room. Lots of the other reviewers say the front desk girls are mean, but they've always been nice to me so can't complain there. Overall, I like this location better than the other ones.
