I have a 2004 Legacy I have owned since 2007. I purchased it at Quirk in Braintree and had been bringing it to them for service ever since. Last year, I moved to Abington - and had been considering using a new/closer service location. When my car had a problem last Thursday, I decided to try Planet Subaru for the first time. My car needed a single CV joint boot replacement. This is a $50 dealer cost part. I brought the car in on Friday afternoon. On Saturday morning, the girl from service called me and told me it would be $350. I find this price for a single boot replacement to be outrageous, and primarily for the reason of labor costs. The service department charged me for 3hrs of labor for this job. I have a close friend who is a manager of a local Firestone. He told me that his Mitchell Manual states the average time for this repair is 1.4hrs. The Mitchell Manual is basically a universal standard for estimating/billing repair labor. The 3hrs I was billed by Planet Subaru was over TWICE this estimate. I also worked for Firestone years ago, and have done similar jobs like this myself. I simply dont have the time or place to do them myself anymore. This job should NOT take 3 hours to do. Because labor is purely subjective and difficult to argue, I believe that I had been severely ripped off. This job requires only the removal of the wheel, axle bolt, and a couple of pins, plus cleaning and repacking of the joint. As further testament to their extreme prices, their service department also quoted me $150 to clean and re-seal ONE tire. For $450 I could purchase 4 new quality tires from Firestone. After haggling with the manager, I was given a 10% discount (which was about $30). Nice, yes. But that equates to less than 20mins of labor cost. Still way, way too much in my eyes. After this experience, I truly am sorry to say that I will not be bringing my car back. I am sorry because the facility is close by, the service techs were very polite and professional. But for essentially double the costs of other reputable repair shops, I simply can't return. My vehicle has 106,000 miles and will almost surely be needing repairs in the future. The bottom line is SHOP AROUND and get labor cost estimates FIRST. Yes, folks there is a 'labor times' standard out there - and in this case my service tech likely could have taken his lunch break and still been done in less than 2.5hrs. At $100/hr you'd be best to find out before you are billed something you can't argue. read more

This place is a nightmare. They refused to negotiate , gave us a hard time for paying cash in full and then nagged us to death about getting a low jack (it's not a Bentley!). Then they start in about purchasing an extended warranty because of the head gasket issues that Subaru is apparently having. Also the suspension apparently goes and labor is $125 an hour. Seriously?! Is he trying to sell us a Subaru or send us running. Absolute nightmare. read more

Just picked up a new Subaru from these folks today. I have to say it was a really nice experience. The salesman, Bob Choate, was excellent. He tracked and answered all my questions from the first day I called without ever calling and asking if I was ready to buy a car today or any sort of pressure. I really appreciated that. Too often car sales types are all over you to do something now, even when you tell them you are just checking things out. Not here. It was an easy experience. I wasn't talked down to, just helped thru the process. As far as pricing and deal-making, things were also quite simple and low key. There are certain cars where there's room to get a bit of a discount and others where there isn't. No pressure or tactics - just a straight answer. On the day we came down to finally find 'the right car' and pull the trigger we got there late and Bob stayed past closing with us to get things wrapped up. The business manager was also very good. No trying to talk us into this or that add-on. If you are in the market for a Subaru I'd recommend them without any qualms. Wish all major purchases worked this well... read more

All of the stuff about them being an "undealership" is true. We had a great experience with these folks, very up front and honest about everything. We were told up front: "no, we don't have any of the vehicles you're looking for" (nobody does, really.) "but we have a lot of quality vehicles here, why don't you come take a look?" We did. Mike, our salesman, was very up front about everything - "yes, we can work with the price a little on that" or "no, there's nothing we can do on that one", etc. He let us test-drive several cars, even let us take one when we needed to go to lunch to talk over our choice! We got a great trade-in for the rather elderly Civic we were getting rid of. When we finally pulled the trigger on a great car at a really good price, everything was smooth, and we were seamlessly handed off to the business manager, who was friendly and personable, even though it was after closing. He got a rate that was almost a full percentage point lower than the one we had when we walked in. We're picking up the new car on Monday. If you want to get into a Subaru (and you should, they're great cars), don't look any further than Planet. read more

Just have to shout out to the service people at this dealership. Incredibly easy to deal with, very flexible and accommodating. And most of all very fair. They also seem more expert than other dealerships I've dealt with (one of which misdiagnosed an engine light and would not have fixed the problem- Planet made the correct diagnosis and didn't hesitate to disagree with the previous dealer). I am instinctively afraid to deal with dealerships for repairs because of the higher prices, but Planet has always found a way to make the cost affordable and fair. They have helped me to keep driving my 2008 Outback indefinitely without draining the bank. I drive an hour out of my way to go to this dealership for my Subarus, passing at least three other dealerships on the way, because they are so different, and trustworthy, and friendly. My hope is to warn others.... During recent visit I wanted to test drive a particular Subaru model not found elsewhere. Checked their site and exact model, color, and options were shown. Filled out web information prior to visit. When I arrived there was no car to try, very disappointing. Was told another was inbound and if I wanted it I was to pay FULL MSRP to purchase it. I don't know about other people but I have never paid full MSRP for any car. Salesman was nice but unwilling to budge on price, or his manager was not willing, no matter. This Stealership will not be getting my business. Checked Kelly Blue Book and other sites for new car prices and they were not close by any measure. I don't think they want to sell new cars. Buyer beware. Update: June 16, 2015 Jeff, thank you for the update/response, I don't think consumers should have to settle for something different because you have other models to offer. Not my fault the manufacturer limits what dealers receive. Perhaps someone from Subaru USA will see this and understand the issues and provide a better experience for other buyers. Planet Subaru has been my go-to for all of my car needs for the past six years. They have assisted me in the purchase of 1 vehicle (a Scion xA), leasing of 2 (a Subaru Impreza and a Subaru Forester), as well as all of my oil changes, inspections, and car work. I have never once been disappointed with my experience. In addition to being knowledgeable, everyone on the staff is courteous and dedicated to helping their customers get exactly what they need. Everyone that I interact with actually listens and cares about what I am saying. They treat you with respect and are always upfront and honest about pricing, availability, and your options. In addition to the staff being top notch, the facility itself is clean and welcoming. I was able to sit with and feed my newborn son in front of their fire place on my most recent visit and we both felt completely comfortable (and warm!). They're just as friendly and wonderful as the staff! If you want to feel comfortable and good about where you go to buy your car then Planet Subaru is the dealership for you. After far too long of my hesitation, procrastination, and frustration, I bought a car! Yay me! I went to Quirk first since their website prices were way better. But, the customer service wasn't as stellar as their prices, and apparently, there were a lot of hidden fees (nearly 5K worth). After my frustration, I hung up my hat and didn't look for car for another 6 months when my sister told me to checkout Planet Subaru. When I inquired about their (very fair and reasonable) prices, I appreciated their philosophy on pricing the cars at their worth already - no need to hack them down. I felt it made Planet more honest and upfront. After all, they do say they're the undealership for a reason. We test drove a few cars, on our own, which I thought was great - no pressure while you're in the car, and you can truly feel it and test it out without feeling guilty going 80 on the highway. They even encouraged us to come in when the weather was crappy to get a real feel for the car. About a week after we bought the car, I received a phone call from our sales person to see how I like the car, if I had any inquiries, and to call him anytime if I have an issue. I'm really happy that we decided to go with a Legacy; we will be buying all of our cars from Planet from herein. read more

I would give the service department and the service manager zero stars if possible. Dropped my car off at 9am to have a recall fixed quoted on the phone when I scheduled my apt at 4-6 hours. I dropped it off at 850am and asked for the complimentary car wash as well. I finally got my car back at 7pm unwashed. I called at 4pm to check on it and was told because I chose to not sit and wait I would be moved behind the people waiting. My car was still being worked on but they would call when it was done. I arrived a little after 7pm to find my car sitting parked in the lot and I had not received a call saying it was done. I was offered a one star detail WITH my next service to make up for my car being unwashed. So I can be compensated while I'm also continuing to give them more money. I called the next day to speak to the service manager and she had attitude from the moment she answered the phone. She sounded completely insincere and said I was already compensated for the lack of the car wash. She didn't seem to find anything wrong with the fact they had my car for 10 hours for 4-6hour job because again the people waiting are important. I told her the department should be telling people when they schedule that by choosing not to wait they will not receive their car back as quickly. Her response "I guess. It just depends where you are in the pool of dropped off cars for a turnaround time" I'm normally not one to write a bad review after a bad customer service experience, but the the lack of understanding and poor attitude from the service manager was completely unacceptable. read more

It's been sometime since I purchased my outback and frankly can't remember the name of my sales person or the head of service. But, I have been meaning to leave a yelp review for many years (a long delay dr appointment has given me some extra time). Well the car purchasing process was very easy. My issues with Planet begin within 1500 miles of having my brand new car. Now I guess I will ignore the fact that when my car arrived, brand new mind you, it had over 200 miles on it. My salesman told me this was because it had to be delivered from upstate New York. I was under the impression that the new car would have nearly 0 miles but I digress. I started having issues about 1500 miles after I purchased the car. I had to have the heating coil in the driver seat replaced. I had to have the brake booster replaced. Now I guess I can see these as little glitches that would happen next has been issue for years. After picking my car up after service at Planet there's a loud clicking noise and rolling noise in the gearshift. I brought it back in and was initially dismissed by service. I brought it back again and was again dismissed that there was nothing wrong with my shift. I brought to another Subaru dealership where they agreed that my brake release solenoid had failed and that it would be replaced. Within three months the same noise returned so I return to Planet and I was told by the service manager at that time who rode in the car with me to "just turn your radio up and you won't hear the noise". To make a long story short I had my brake release solenoid replaced at least three more times and to this day it's still fails. I had a mechanic in Los Angeles tell me that he could not believe I was driving a car with a failed selinoid. I guess my biggest concern was that I was not being taken seriously by members of the service center. I approached my salesman who shrugged his shoulders and said what do you want me to do about it. I was repeatedly dismissed by the service center and made to think that I was hearing things. I guess I should've taken the time and reported my car is a lemon, but I did not. The car has treated me well in spite of the glitches. In the end, all I can say is that I will never buy another vehicle from or have my car serviced at Planet Subaru. read more

Overall, super impressed with this dealership! There's few dealerships out there anymore that aren't overly pushy or judgy/assuming. Happy to say Planet is one of them! We were referred by my mom, who purchased an Ascent a few years ago and had an amazing experience. We went in looking for a 4th car for commuting and racking up mileage, and were allowed to drive whatever we wanted mid-New England snowstorm. We ended up finding a 3.6 Legacy in our price range that we overall love, and we really appreciated Josh (purchase partner) who we worked with and would recommend him to anyone! Great transparency and super friendly to work with. Overall extremely smooth, especially given our hectic schedules. We were so overwhelmed with terrible service at a dealership before here that we probably should have looked closer at the vehicle- it doesn't have remote start which we though it did but the website was correct in just listing Remote start/unlock- again, on us. I also didn't try the second key fob, and the battery is apparently dead in it so we only have one key until I take it back. Overall minor issues, we live close enough, but if someone was driving far for their customer service (which you should!), definitely take time to make sure everything works with a used vehicle :) read more

This Dealership is a scam and a Joke. They claim they are transparent, but they are fake like $3.00 dollar bills and they will rip you off in every aspect of the deal. Do not waste your time and save some future headaches, bring your business to some place else. They are still selling people LEMON CARS. Make sure you check very carefully the Low mileage used car you are buying, there is a Red Flag on those low mileage cars they have for sale. If you take a look at BBB review you'll see there is an another customer complaining that bought a Lemon car from them as well. I was tasked with finding a pre-owned 2008 Subaru Outback for my parents. A search of Vehix.com gave me 6 listings that could work, so I contacted the dealerships using the online form. I think most of those low-price listings are scams (bait), as when you actually contact the dealer that particular car is usually gone, but they'd love to tell you about similar cars that you'll love (more expensive). 2 Dealerships got back to me saying that they still had the car in stock (which, if it's listed online, it should be), of those two, Planet Subaru in Hanover was far and away the most specific, honest-sounding, and, well, nice. I called the place and spoke with Deb, who was almost suspiciously nice (though it turned out to be genuine), and she told me the details of the car. We set up a test drive for my mom who could only get a half hour off work, and Deb had the car waiting right out front for a quick test-drive as soon as my mom arrived. She liked it, said she wanted it, and in the next few days did all the insurance/reg stuff and we went and picked it up today! Honest, easy, not sketchy, a solid dealership. Un-dealership might be a might of an overstatement, since they still do negotiate on many asking prices (not the one we bought since it was some sort of internet special, and rightly so since it was priced significantly lower than anywhere else in the Boston area). Eventually, I hope dealerships don't even exist. Cars should be bought like you'd buy a toaster, you find the one you like for the lowest price and you buy it. I think the internet will eventually solve this problem of haggling with car dealers for us, but for the time being, this place is not a bad compromise. read more

From a sales perspective, I was very, very pleased with the folks at Planet. They have a true grasp of what "internet sales" are all about - if you want to deal over email, and you want pictures, and want solid numbers, Deb and Mike will give you exactly those items. Great people. Once you are content with everything, they are incredibly great to deal with over the phone and in person. While there doesn't seem to be such a thing as a "good" finance department anywhere.. these guys were pretty close to it. Had some miscommunication with loans and preferences but in the end all worked out well, and everyone at the dealer was genuinely happy for me. I've never gone to a car dealership without that feeling in my gut that a salesperson is going to try to sell me something that I don't want . . . except for here. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would (the lost 0.5 is the lack of 2.5 RS floor mats in stock, but that's something they can't control). Nate and Jeff F. have been great to deal with throughout the process. Like Pete said, they will wait until you're all set with everything, and they won't put pressure on you while you're discussing the deal in person. Furthermore, they will tell you how it is, i.e. lay out the sale of the car and help you with financing it. I was lucky enough not to have to use their finance department, although they were willing to go out of their way to help me get a good interest rate (which they did). We travel from Beverly, MA to Planet because they are the BEST dealership in MA. I called every other dealership within a 50 mile radius and they could not match Plants price or incentives. This is my 3rd car I'm purchasing from Plant. 1st was a total loss (RIP deer, we were safe). 2nd we still own and drive at 115617 miles! 3rd is a brand new 2021 crosstrek that I picked up yesterday. We spent 5 hours test driving all kinds of levels of option packages and Ben was with us the whole way. My husband bowed out at 2 hours (pshh). Ben helped us to find a car that was on the way to the dealership from the factory (because it had the amenities and color I wanted). When it was ready a few weeks later, we did the financing over the phone and drove down the next day to sign. COVID SAFE facility! There is no need to haggle, every price detail is told to you up front. They will do cartwheels to make sure you are satisfied. Ok, well maybe. not cartwheels, but I didn't ask. Ben is my new BFF so I'm totally gonna ask. Do your research, but if you wanna trust me, I guarantee that Planet has you and your families best interest at heart. Called ahead June 2020 to schedule test drive. Easy in. Easy Out. No pressure to buy. Came back in October to test drive again and ended up buying a Crosstrek after considering several other cars and other dealerships. Was impressed with staff at Subaru and I enjoyed working with a female sales consultant. Mae, was very patient, walking me around the lot, grabbing different cars from the back lot so I could see style and color and experience how my body fit into different models. Kind, considerate and easy to get a long with. No sales pressure. Subaru honored my request not to be bombarded with buying upgraded warranties and unnecessary add-ons. I just purchased a car from Planet Subaru and it was the best experience I have ever had at a car dealership. The salesperson we worked with, James was pleasant and helpful. He helped us find the right car for us (I had also already looked on their website and spotted a few ahead of time) and let us take our time test driving the cars. There was never any pressure just shear helpfulness. At the end of the day when we said that "we needed to think about it," there was no pressure just a suggestion that he might call us later in the week. We went back the following weekend and test drove our favorite, ultimately deciding to purchase it. We then dealt with the financing department, which was quite helfpul as well and explained the financial details in a way that I have never heard before. We actually learned a lot. In addition to the nice and helpful staff the dealership is pretty cool and is completely run on solar energy and has a 5-acre nature preserve behind it with native plants. So the dealership lives up to its name and is an added bonus if you are environmentally inclined (as we are). Overall we give this car dealership a big thumbs up! read more

Let me be the first person to say that I SWORE I would NEVER buy a car off a dealer lot. OK. SO I had an older VOLVO that was TERRIBLE and was draining my bank account. It would not pass inspection and due to electrical issues would not drive well It spent 5 weeks at a mechanic and he essentially refused to work on it. So I got next to nothing for he car in trade but Planet found a buyer who gave me $700 for it. That was better than the $200-$300 that other buyers were offering. So that was great. They went out of their way to make sure I got the most money for my piece of sh*t car. I wanted an Imprezza Sport with low miles and white. They had it. It had 12,500 miles and was about 1 year old. I told them what I had in my budget. Up front, they gave me a good deal. Now, mind you, I NEEDED a car. If I had held out , I'm sure they could have done a few hundred bucks better, but I was in need of a car. So I put some money down, and hey *almost* made my monthly payments meet my needs. Ok, so it was about $25 more than I wanted to spend a month, but hey, thats ok its only $25. Now for the cool part. Deb- the Sales Manager, (and a really nice person) allowed the car to be eligible for the "Passport" service. This service is free tires, batteries, windshield wipers, and LOANER CAR when my car is in for service - for THE LIFE OF THE CAR. What a huge savings. Thats an easy $600 savings on he first set of tires - pus not having to worry about transportation when my car is in for service! DONE! Then, their Finance manager- can't remember his name, sold me a 7 year / 100K mile extended warrantee for book value - the made $0 on this deal. So now, I have a practically new car, with free tires and batteries and a 100K mile , 7 year full factory warrantee - which is transferable if I ever sell the car. Then, after driving the car for a week, there was a bad shimmy and the car pulled to the left. I called the service department and they got me in the same week. The car drove PERFECTLY when I got it back All in all, Planet Subau is a great place to get a Subaru. They are pretty much no BS, no games. My parents have already bought 2 Outbacks from there and I wouldn't have gone if they didn't have a good experience. If you are looking for a no pressure, easy going no B.S. Planet Subaru is a dangerous company. They buy their cars off of wholesale and then will try to sale them with as long as they meet state requirements (tried to sell me a car with badly needed rear brakes - thankful I had an objective mechanic take a look before I agreed to the sale). Dale is a very incompetent sales manager - doesn't care for the safety of his customers, purely there for the bottom line. Has no business being in any consumer related business. Rhonda is a very kind person. Should be working in a much better environment to suit her skills. Lastly, Planet Subaru does a "no haggle" claiming that they are the "bottom line". Check out Quirk Subaru or any Toyota dealership. Planet Subaru will pull out any trick to sell a car - do not trust them; always have your mechanic look at the vehicle before buying. The car is still terrific, I just required more leg room for some family members...my Dad drives a 2010 Legacy he loves it's, and I just rolled away with a 2019 Forester. What I love about Planet is is that you are treated as you should be, a customer who knows what they want and don't want...seems simple but that is just not always the case at many car dealerships....we worked with Nick Hoffman, he was helpful and very accommodating. read more

I brought my wife's Ascent to have the driver side rear view mirror assembly repaired after damaging it. While I didn't object to the long wait, I was very frustrated to find when I pulled out onto Washington Street that I could not adjust the mirror. It would move a few centimeters and then stay in place clicking. I turned around and pulled back into the service area and a representative came out to observe the movement and then took vehicle into the service bays for assessment. It turns out the mirror was mounted in an incorrect position preventing the controller from moving properly. I can understand the mistake of mounting in the wrong direction. What I can't understand is why your service personnel did not check to see if it worked properly before releasing the car. Ironically, I brought it to your shop because I felt you would be more trustworthy and professional than the local body shop service center. This is the second time your facility has disappointed me. I am on my second lease with an outback (2019). Recently my wife was driving thru Columbian Sq in Weymouth when she heard a loud pop. She pulled over, traffic was very light, no one was around but the outside passenger mirror was gone. It just "exploded". She gathered the pieces, came home and tried to understand what had just taken place. Fortunately none of the parts broke or even got scratched. The only part damaged was the mirror from falling on the street. Planet replaced the mirror and checked out the unit and all at no charge. It's very rare but renews my faith, especially given 2020. read more

We were recommended here by a friend a few years ago when we were on the hunt for a new car. We had a fantastic, low-stress buying experience with Eric, and went home with a Forester that we love! Having shopped at about six other dealerships at that same time, we knew this one felt TOTALLY different: airy, kind people, nice amenities like a coffee/tea station, and several friendly dogs just hanging out with their owners (staff who work there)! The best part? Their sales team have all been hired from professions other than car sales and they have a ton of female staff in all areas of the dealership. Again, just a totally different feel than any other dealership we visited -- in the best way possible. There's a good reason for them branding themselves as the "undealership." We also opted to be members of their Passport program. Basically, if you go there for your 6,000 mile service checks, you get tires and batteries for the life of the car. It's pricier than going with a local mechanic, but we really trust the service team at Planet and have always felt like they've been 100% honest with us -- including when we've had to have some work done. Awesome dealership! Had a problem with my vehicle and a claim in with SoA. The staff at Planet worked with myself and Subaru HQ to resolve this as quickly as possible. They saved my Legacy from the dreaded 100k head gasket problem and performed quality work. I would recommend them to anyone looking to buy as well. I have had fantastic experiences at Planet over the years. It started about 10 years ago when I bought a used car from them. The sales process was smooth and there was no pressure at any time. I looked at two cars over a couple week period before settling on the second one I test drove. I felt that I got a great car at a great price. Fast forward to a couple years ago and my fiancee was ready for a new car. She was interested in Subarus and I recommended Planet. Her salesperson Greg is top notch. He was very easy to work with and very helpful - even cancelling her old car's registration after trading it in. My sister also got a new car from him that same year with a similar experience. Last summer I finally was ready to replace my old Subaru and leased a new one from Greg. We did this transaction mostly by email and phone as I knew I wanted a Subaru and did not need to test drive it. He even texted me pictures of the car to make sure the color was good! On pick up day Greg was so excited he met us in the parking lot on our walk in from where we had parked. When it's time to turn in my lease I will definitely be back there and hopefully get to work with Greg again. read more

Planet Subaru provided such a positive car buying experience! My boyfriend Marcus and I had Derek as a salesman and he was very helpful and laidback during the whole experience. I liked his approach, the last thing I wanted was a forceful or intimidating salesman. Derek stuck with the facts and kept things casual which allowed my boyfriend and I to discuss our options without pressure. We also had Scott as our finance guy which again was a pain free process! He was very personable and was very helpful explaining things to us. Overall we had such a positive experience when it could have been very overwhelming. Really great car buying process. Worked with Scott Chandler, and he let me test drive three separate Foresters before I decided on one. I'm sure he would have kept pulling cars around for me to drive if I wanted. They also let me take the car down the street to get looked at by a mechanic. Derek Sadovnikoff and Joe Harris in the business office made sure that the financing and warranty met my needs. All in all, very happy with my purchase, and happy that I was able to work with really kind people. They also love dogs, which was an added bonus. read more

I'd always gone to Planet Subaru for most of the service on my Outback, which had been purchased as as Certified Pre Owned vehicle from PS in '09. The last few times there I've had poor experiences and to this point, no one has done a thing other than apologize. The last straw was the rear brake job I went in for this past July. The techs there did the job but never hooked the emergency brake cable back. This is the 2nd time such a thing has happened there at PS. I had to trek back there from Quincy on a Friday afternoon in July (mired in an hour of Cape Cod weekend traffic) and was promised compensation from the Service Manager Matthew. Countless emails and almost 4 MONTHS LATER, I've received nothing but lip service. We love our Outback and planned on coming back next year to trade this one in on a newer model but will not be going back again based on the juvenile handling of my complaint. The Service Manager even acknowledged the issues from the past after researching this (which took weeks after my initial complain) but I've received NOTHING. If anyone in any Management role would bother to contact me, I'd be appreciative and frankly based on my experience with Matthew at this point,shocked if anyone bothered. ***UPDATE*** I did finally speak with the Service manager, who agreed to compensate me for the most recent issue as well as for the past issues. I bought my first Subaru Impreza in Planet Subaru, the services were exceptional. I particular thank to Ryan Mak who was very polite and patient that made the transactions without any problem. Also, I have to thank Jaime who was very friendly and under her recommendation I purchased the warranty which would ease my mind in the future if needed. Ryan called me while I was on the way home and the next day to ensure the car was met my expectation.
