Do not waste your time with this guy. I bought my third XC 90 from him. After searching for months for the right combination of age and miles. The deal seemed too good to be true and Boy it was. Yes he fixed anything that broke within the three month warranty, which was a lot. Even after that, the suspension is shot the alignment always been off. Need to get new tires. The blower for the heat in air-conditioning blew on the last day of my warranty, Bob did give me the part, but I had to pay to have it installed only six months after purchasing the $16,000 car the calipers came off of one of my brakes which resulted in almost $1000 in brake work. Bob lied several times and said what a great car this was and how I wouldn't have to make any repairs for a very long time. The engine mounts are very loose in the car makes obscenely loud. Sounds when idling. In short on paper it looks like the best XC 90 I had ever purchased but in reality, it is the worst car I've ever purchased in my life Especially being a Volvo, which is usually the king of luxury and comfort at a reasonable price. The suspension is completely shot on this car. It's one of the roughest rides I've ever had. Most of the interior was broken and a lot of the wiring is wrong because random codes just turn on and off whenever they want don't be fooled by the cheap prices in low miles. Bob Goodman and I negotiated a $16,200 purchase price for a 2013 Volvo automobile, model XC70 that his Specialty Auto company advertised at $16,600 and we shook hands on that deal. I told him then that I wanted to buy it promptly so that I could take it on vacation. A few days later, when I phoned to schedule the closing (only a couple days before I was to leave) he reneged on the discounted price and insisted on the original $16,600. Having made firm plans to travel, I purchased the Volvo on September 23, 2023, under protest. Goodman calculated the cost of registration and taxes at $1,137.50 and I also paid him that amount. We also agreed to have the car inspected by a mechanic we both knew and trusted. When I returned from vacation, Goodman authorized him to replace a broken motor mount and an improperly installed heat shield (cost $531.94). The mechanic also advised at that time that the engine consumed excessive amounts of engine oil. On or about October 3, 2023, I reported to Goodman that the car had used two quarts in in about 2000 miles during my vacation. He first asserted that consumption of a quart every 400 miles was acceptable, but soon agreed to my returning the car for a refund. Goodman insisted that we needed to wait for the title to be available to execute the refund transaction. On his advice, I phoned the Registry of Motor Vehicles and requested expedited issuance of the title. Between that agreement to return the Volvo and the arrival of the title in the mail, I phoned Goodman twice, weeks apart. I was concerned about the long delay in obtaining the title. He said on both calls only that you could not accept a return without the title. He never mentioned any fees for mileage, cleaning, or anything else prior to the mail delivery of the title. The title arrived around November 3rd and I phoned Goodman again to schedule the return transaction. During that call and for the first time, he said that he would not refund all of the purchase price. He also told me that he had miscalculated the tax amount due and so had paid the taxes and registration from his own funds. He returned my original check for $1,137.50 to cover tax and fees and told me that I must seek a tax abatement from the Commonwealth. Goodman insisted over my objections that he would deduct fees of $500 for the mileage that I had driven while in possession of the car, and $170 to clean the car. In addition to objecting to those unilaterally imposed new fees, I requested a proper accounting. he sent me a text: "$16600us $500 repair, Minus$1157 Rmv paid by me. Minus $170 detail minus $500 Miles comes out to $15273" On November 4, 2023. I returned the Volvo and accepted your check for $15,273 only under express protest of your deduction of $670 in unauthorized fees. You gave me that check, but none of the other papers required to apply for the abatement. I pursued you by phone, text, and letter for weeks to obtain those records. You insisted that you could not provide the routine sales and tax records that the Department of Revenue required. I subsequently applied for the tax abatement without all the records and eventually the Commonwealth approved an abatement. I never agreed to your deduction of $500 for "Miles" that I had driven the Volvo or the $170 cleaning fee. Nothing in the sales contract provided for such fees. You had never mentioned that you would apply such charges, neither at the time of sale or during the month-long wait for the title. I might have left the car parked had I known. This defective Volvo cost me a lot of money because it was delivered in September with two serious safety concerns; a broken motor mount and an odd radial ply tire that did not match the other three, and an engine that burned oil. You reimbursed me for the motor mount, but I paid $$203.99 for a matching tire and $24.75 for installation. The mechanic also installed a towing hitch for me prior to my discovery of the excessive oil consumption and other problems. I paid 148.50 for the towing installation and later another $118.80 to remove the trailer hitch prior to returning the vehicle. Goodman represented throughout the sale that the Volvo was a low-mileage "McGovern car" in exceptionally good condition. I believed those misrepresented facts about the Volvo's excellent condition justified its premium price. Because it was not in good condition, I had to return it and you extracted $670 in improper fees, plus I paid $228.74 to replace the mismatched and unsafe tire, and $267.30 to install and remove the hitch. Had the vehicle been in excellent, saleable, and safe condition as you represented, I would not have incurred any of these expenses. Goodman should reimburse me $1166.04 for the improper fees and for the additional expenses that I incurred because, in fact, the Volvo was not in sound, saleable, and safe condition. I am traumatized. Whenever I see a Volvo XC90 I am filled with sadness and regret. I searched far and wide for the perfect combination of miles and price. I thought I found it here. It took 3 trips to get the car and I live an hour away. My whole family went including my young child. You'd think that showing up with family in tow might illicit some empathy but it did not. My Dad said never trust a dealer, I shoulda listened! Long story short it was a lemon with over $4000 worth of repairs needed. How do I know? Well After owning the car for 3 days and almost crashing on the highway WITH MY BABY IN THE CAR (due to bad alignment and suspension)I immediately took it to the dealer for diagnostic. Engine, breaks, Suspension, alignment to name a few. Mind you, when we test drove it, I mentioned it was kinda veering sideways, sounding and driving funny. He promised it would fixed and cleaned upon pick up. It was NOT FIXED and the car WAS NOT CLEAN. Needless to say, I have a new car now. Returned that piece of crap. Great experience!! Just received (as in was personally delivered to our door) our new to us 2000 Volvo V70. As with any used vehicle, there is a risk that something could go wrong the day you put it on the road. Specialty Auto took some unbelievable steps to make sure we'd only have to worry about driving it into a telephone pole to see something go wrong. Standard practice for purchasing a used vehicle should involve an independent inspection by your own trusted mechanic. Not only did Bob not flinch at our suggestion, he personally drove the vehicle to the station (over an hour each way!) He was already aware of several minor issues and agreed to fix them without hesitation, but the inspection turned up a few other issues. He agreed to fix them at no additional cost. Again, anything could happen to any car, even brand new. But Specialty Auto put a considerable amount of additional time and money into our purchase and agreed to stand behind the sale. I've purchased a '99 Volvo V70 shown on Autotrader. The owner Robert Goodman lives by his last name...a Good Man and honest, literally. He really made my purchase EXTREMELY POSITIVE. He took 100% care of everything that needed to be done prior to me taking the car home. He literally made sure every service, repair, and/or replacement of genuine Volvo parts has been installed. For example, my trunk cover fastener popped out and it makes a serious rattle sound. The cause was from the horrible roads of Aquidneck Island, R.I. Robert Goodman told me to bring it back and he'll replace all the fasteners. He rest assured me that anything I notice while driving the car is not perfect within reason, to bring it back so he can fix or replace it. He stands by the cars he sells. His customer service was so great, I took my '93 850GLT for service. I gave him a laundry list , fixed it all in a speedy manner, and the cost was beyond belief; a whole lot cheaper than any dealer. Buyer beware. Bob won my confidence as did Volvo's reputation for safety and reliability. After app 2,000 miles car was over heating and needed a serious flush out. I had minor concern over this. At 7000 gentle miles it started coughing out on a cold start. I am a realist and accept that one must do repairs and maintenance. A reputable Volvo expert gave it a look over. He told me not to put one cent into the car ,it wasn't worth it. A laundry list of issues. I went to see Bob still having some faith in him ,thinking he would be surprised too, hoping for his best deal on a replacement. His response - "Nothing lasts for ever". Bob and his team run a fine shop in Hanson. I purchased a used Volvo from Specialty Auto earlier this year and I was impressed with the level of customer service I received. I was able to take my time and review the cars in the lot, test drive the ones I was interested in, etc. I never felt any sales pressure. I ended up choosing a '06 V50. A few months after I bought the car I noticed it started losing power while driving. Then one day it overheated and the warning said I had to turn the car off immediately. I ended up driving the car about another 2 miles before lifting the hood to find that the cap for the antifreeze container had become loose and all the antifreeze had spilled out. I of course added antifreeze and recapped the container and thought all was well but the car still felt low on "power." I called Bob up to ask what might be going on and he became very concerned that somehow the car had gotten damaged because of the overheating. (note - if your car says stop driving, then stop driving as soon as it's safe to do so. I really could have messed everything up driving those 2 extra miles). Bob offered to pick my car up in Dedham and take it back to his shop. When he got to my house he noticed antifreeze on the ground and realized that there was a leak. He took the car away to have the leak fixed at his shop ***all under warranty, even though the warranty had expired by a few weeks *** When my car was ready, I took the train to the Hanson mbta station and Bob picked me up. As it turns out, once I got the car back I still noticed there was an issue with the power. Somehow the car just felt sluggish. I called Bob up again and he suggested I take it to a local mechanic to run the codes. Unfortunately I don't remember what the code was there was a problem with the fuel sensor. I called Bob up and we set up an appointment for me to bring the car in. Again, this happened although I was a few weeks out of warranty. I would buy from Specialty Auto again. Buying a used car has its risks but I appreciate Bob's willingness to do right by his customers. I spent good money on my car and I expect it to perform at a certain level and Bob met all my expectations. He provided outstanding customer service and I'm ultimately happy with my car. read more

Don't be fooled by the amount of cars jammed into this space in Hanson. Bob and his guys truly know Volvo's, and his inventory is full of low mileage good cars. We purchased a one owner 2002 C70 convertible w/ less than 55k on it. Car in great shape, a few minor blemishes as you'd expect but i mean MINOR. Bob showed us a 2001 he had at the satellite location as well. When we picked it up, was very happy. Not only were a few things we agreed upon fixed, the car was clean and to my surprise the timing belt was replaced. I didn't ask for it up front but knew it was something i'd need to do in the near future. Lastly, he's not kidding about no hidden fees (other dealers were tossing out up to 495 bucks for their 'services' and 'prep'). I will be back when my son starts driving! read more

Picked up my Volvo V70 2007 from Bob last week. We had a mechanic in the area - WCS Automotive in Rockland, MA check out the car. Only needed minor stuff (I mean it is a used car so you can't expect absolute perfection) and Bob took care of all of it - he also put 4 new tires on the car that we didn't even ask for. Over 25 years we've had over 10 Volvo's, all bought used. I know we'll be back to buy from Bob again - he knows Volvo's better than anybody we've come across. I would highly recommend him to anybody. My son bought a 95 850 from this place. On the ride home the brake light came on as the fluid was low. Should have taken it back at this point but he trusted the owner. No jack or spare, problem with the front end and the engine blew right after the warranty expired, 6 weeks. The only way I would go near this place again would be to tow the car out in front letting people know that this is what he could do for you. How he can look himself in the mirror is beyond me. read more

Robert Goodman of Specialty Auto should not be trusted. I bought a '04 Volvo VR 70 Wagon (136,000 miles) from him in Nov. '16 for $7500. The entire experience has been a disaster. I have since spent in excess of $5,000 additional dollars that I never thought I would have to deal with. That includes 3 of 4 wheel bearing assemblies which were dry as a bone, outer rear wheel sway bars, lower steering shaft (totally rusted), the AWD Active On Coupling (AOC) and Differential Electronic Module (DEM) - basically the AWD was not functioning - and then discovered the Central Electronic Module (CEM) was cooked (entire dashboard instrument cluster, elec. windows and wipers all cut out in anything more than 75 degree weather. Need I say more. The guy is a slob. Wanted to throttle him due to his lack of ownership of the issues. I've bought 18 cars since graduating form college, 15 used. Was looking to replace my beloved 1987 240 Sedan. Took a 2 hr drive up to check out what he had. Bob made it worth my trip. I found a 1990 version of the 240 for a very reasonable price which had been so well maintained over the years that its almost mind boggling. I seriously love my new volvo. He is an honest man that backs up his sales. I had even wired him the money and he overnighted me the title and a very tick maintanence log. Car just passed emissions with flying colors. Nothing hidden when you deal with Bob. Which is why I enjoyed making the sale with him rather than some craigslist seller who will not back up the car with a warranty or their name and honestly I think many out there are out to get you.
